January Transfer speculation, (it will be here before you know it)

Could not attach the article but The Times is reporting that Paqueta is looking for an exit in the January window.

The report states that Villa made a bid in the summer once his spot fixing accusations went away which was rebuffed. I must admit I was hopeful that we would see a reinvigorated Paqueta with a point to prove so I was in favor of keeping him.

Unfortunately, imo, he has once again failed to impress so if we get a decent offer for him I would be happy to see him go although we are unlikely to see anything close to the £85m being banded around by Citeh back in the day.

Thoughts on a postcard……..

  • Times is behind a pay wall so unless we pay we can't read it

Thankfully the Sun reprinted the article a few hours later and it seems we rejected the Villa bid as we thought it was too late in the window to find a replacement

Allegedly we've slapped a £60m price tag on him which seems to be putting off potential buyers

Follow Nuno's comments at his press conference it doesn't sound like there is any money to spend.

Nice to see the board have got the excuses out early so we don't get our expectations up that they might actually try to help NES with some new players in January. =)
  • Would that rule out a Dawson return?
  • Being reported that Spurs have offered £60M for Bowen and the club are considering it. If that’s true then they’ve obviously decided this season is a right off.
    Don’t believe it myself.
  • He'd be heading for a rapid divorce if that happened.
  • I feel confident in saying there would be no truth in the Bowen rumour whatsoever. It would almost guarantee relegation and ensure the board were held entirely responsible.

If we go down I suspect he will be Liverpool or City bound, not Spurs.
  • Reported where?

We all know there is no way he is sold, as we will be confirming our relegation.

Apparently Dawson rejected offers from Birmingham, Blackburn and Wrexham in the summer

From what little I saw of him while he was at Wolves he lost none of his determination and commitment but has lost a fair amount of pace - and he wasn’t that quick when he was with us
  • More rumours that Bowen is off to Liverpool as a Salah replacement, even though Salah signed a 2-year extension in April or Spurs. Both rumours started at Football Insider which has proved in the past to be as reliable as a chocolate teapot

Going the other way C&H reports that Nuno wants Adam Traore who will be out-of-contract in the summer so would be available on the cheap in January.

C&H also reporting that Luis Guilherme will be on the move in Janaury

Is that Adama Traore, muscular and very quick but, certainly in the past, little end product?

  • That's the one
  • Adama Traore is one of the exclusive club of people who are linked with us every year but never turn up. I'm thinking: Youssef En-Nesyri, William Carvalho, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Samuel Inkoom.

But it does feel plausible this year. There were rumours that one of the reasons Nuno fell out with Marinakis at Forest was because he wanted Traore and was told no. And, Traore made 131 appearances under Nuno at Wolves, which is comfortably more than any other coach he's had. Clearly, Nuno likes and rates the guy, so if he wants him, it's coming from actual experience of working with him.
  • He's 30 in January, so not an ideal profile. He's only started 1 game in the PL for Fulham so far this season, plus has come on as a sub 8 times (twice an unused sub on the bench) for a total of just 243 mins in the PL this season. Obviously depends on the terms of any deal, but he's not someone I'm gonna be gutted about if he doesn't arrive.
  • Can't see Fulham letting him come to us There only 1 point ahead of us
  • I have to say his loan to Barcelona (he did start out there) in 2022 has to be right up there with Faubert to Real Madrid on loan.

I can see Fulham selling a player that is going to walk on a free at the end of the season and they don't use

Bowen will be 29 in December

Traore did occasionally play CF under Nuno so maybe he's going to be an option alongside Wilson and Fullkrug as well as back up for Bowen and Summerville
  • Dont they have an option for another year .thought i read that but could be wrong
  • Bowen has a long contract and has shown no interest in pushing for a move. To sell him would hugely damage us, as even with the money it would bring we could never persuade a player of his quality to join us.

So unless we are relegated or he suddenly turns into Kudus I can't see how that transfer happens.

Indeed he will be, but there's a difference between having a player of that age at the club because they've been here a while (and so we've already had our money's worth from them) and bringing in players of that age.

I would hope, if he did arrive, it would be for a low fee and low wages (given how little he's playing at Fulham), but knowing the muppets running our club I wouldn't be confident that would be the case.

Players are a lot fitter than they used to be and hitting 30 isn't the end of a top flight career

Jordan Henderson is 35, joined Brentford in the summer, has started 10 out of 11 Premier League games, played more than 75 minutes for most of them, the full 90 minutes four times

Granit Xhaka is 33, joined Sunderland in the summer, has started every Premier League game this season and has never been subbed off

    Callum Wilson is also 33

    Seriously???

For every one that works out, there's probably more that don't; Ings, Fullkrug, JWP, Rodriguez for starters and that's just members from last season's squad.

  • Slav shedding a little light on his experience regarding transfers when at the club, it sounds about right.

  • You now have it from a man who knows; Sullivan let’s the coach get on with his job and does not interfere!
  • Nice interview, we have to stay behind Nuno but i would have welcomed him back, I doubt we would have suffered those couple of games with so many starters out of position.
  • I don't really mind if he goes, but I would hope it's for enough money that means we can get an actual centre forward option.

We're very unlikely to get much for him imo; we overpaid when we got him 18 months ago, and he's done very little in that time to suggest he's worth paying much for, even when he's not been out injured.

Must admit I thought he was out of contract in the summer (with an option), but apparently he signed a 4 year contract; you really have to laugh at our transfer dealings.

The only possible upside is that his wages will be saved, but any fee will represent a big loss I'm sure.
  • I may be in the minority, but I don’t really care about transfer fees. Like I say, if we get enough to get a replacement that proves to be successful, I’m satisfied. That could be a free transfer so long as we can get someone who works out. Clearly I’d be delighted if someone gave us loads of money, but I also wouldn’t trust us to spend it anyway so I don’t know whether it matters.

I completely agree, but receiving a decent fee would increase the size of the pool we're fishing in for his replacement; with what we're likely to get we'll probably be fishing in Sulivan's bathtub.

With the financial rules we will always need be bringing in to spend out, as I don't imagine we generate too much outside of the TV money. It's why we were able to have a real go a couple of seasons back as Rice cost nothing but went for big money. We did get a chunk of it back again with Kudus this season but we will need to keep selling for a fee if hoping to afford decent fees when buying.

In this case however no one will give us much for Fulkrug due to his recent injury record and poor form.
