  • We're going with the 3 fit spinners (Bashir in for the injured Leach), and Jimmy Anderson comes in for Mark Wood.

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, James Anderson

Big test for our largely inexperienced spin attack, India have won the toss and will bat.
  • Anderson opened from one end, and Root is preferred to our 3 front-line spinners from the other.
  • Bashir, on debut, takes the first wicket. India 40-1 .
  • Anderson takes a wicket 10 minutes before lunch, India 89-2.
  • 103-2 at lunch. India's session I suspect; although the pitch is playing well atm, you always know that it could end up turning sideways at some point.
  • A poor start to the second session by England, as India advance to 179 before England take the 3rd wicket, a smart catch by Foakes of a bottom edge off Hartley.
  • 225-3 at tea, India definitely in control atm.

249-4, Rehan Ahmed gets a slightly fortunate wicket as a defensive block bounces backwards and rolls onto the stumps ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚. Much needed wicket though.

301-5, another much needed wicket, from Bashir this time. Would be nice to pick up another one or two in the last half an hour.

330-6. Rehan Ahmed gets his second wicket of the day.

  • 336-6 at close of play. India's day, but coulda been worse for England.
  • Pretty even in the end.
    Excellent first dayโ€™s cricket.
  • England review an LBW decision, but it's too high. First review lost, although not until the 99th over, unlike the first Test where we burned all our reviews in the first innings inside 14 overs.
  • 364-7, Anderson gets a wicket, caught by Foakes. India opener Jaiswal is still there on 191 not out.
  • Jaiswal finally falls for 209, Anderson with another wicket. India 383-8 .
  • 395-9, Rehan Ahmed with the wicket.
  • 396 all out, Bashir takes the last wicket.

A very good performance this morning to restrict India to under 400, but that's still a big score and we'll need to bat very well to get close to it.
  • Crawley and Duckett survive 6 overs before lunch, scoring 32 in the process. A big afternoon session to look forward to.
  • Crawley offers a tough chance when on 17 off Ashwin.

Duckett goes for 21, England 59-1. Another 196 from Pope would be nice.
  • Crawley goes for 76 off just 78 balls. First over after the drinks break, England 114-2.
  • Oh no, Root goes for just 5, a straightforward edge to slip. 123-3.

Pope has his stumps splattered, an inswinging yorker from Bumrah who also got Root. Pope only makes 23 after his heroics in the second innings last week, England are 136-4 and in trouble after a solid start of 114-1.
  • 155-4 at tea. Time for a bacon sarnie methinks.
  • Bairstow gone for 25, real trouble now at 159-5 .
  • Oh dear, 172-6 as Foakes goes for 6.

182-7, Rehan Ahmed gone for 6.
  • Stokes gone for 47, England 229-8, 167 behind.

    Hartley gone for 21, 234-9.
