When I started work back in the 60s, it was unthinkable, out of self-respect, for me not to contribute out of my £5.19.11½d =)
Can't remember how much but I think it was probably 40%.

    What's 40% of eleven pence ha'penny? Just 🤔
    £5.19.11½d =1439.5d, 40% of which is 575.8d which is 47.983s so £2.8s or thereabouts.
Hope this answers your question. I did say probably. ;)
  • West Ham expect Kudus to get an additional two game ban on top of his current three game ban. They will discover the outcome on Monday (talkSPORT).
  • Can't believe that Trump could well get back into the White House.
  • Unbelievable.
  • I find it hard to understand the American voters, elect someone that often says things the are blatantly untrue, a convicted felon, far right views. It will only encourage the far right here, the likes of Fararge.
  • It already has, people still blind to the number of votes Reform got. More than the Lib dems, and they will be heavily targeting Labour seats who voted Brexit next election.
The UK public is not far off the US public in stupidity and easily sucked into misinformation and disinformation that Russia's campaign has spread successfully and is probably one of the the biggest successes of this age from a nation state.
The 2024 election was about removing the Tories and a huge protest vote after complete shambles of them being in government for so long, 2029 I think we will see a dramatic swing shift again if Labour doesn't pull some rabbits out of hats (not confident they can or will).
Either that or the Tories crumble so hard that they cave into Farage to become the next Conservative leader and drags the whole party far right MAGA style.
  • Kudus gets additional 2 game ban.
  • To bad but no real surprise .Lets hope he comes back thinking he owes us some good games

Mrs shrugged votes Democrat, we stayed up to watch the results last night and she's really glad that she no longer lives in the USA so won't have to suffer another four years with him as president.

Last time was bad but this time he's out for revenge and might even try to overturn the 22nd amendment which restricts presidents to two terms
  • I agree with a lot of what you say Yeold. But would add that it's not all stupid people falling for disinformation etc.

Many know what the lies and falsities are, but just don't care about the truth.
  • Sat up most of the night to watch the election results.I went to bed so sick of it and have just felt numb all day.
    A dark day in history.
  • Well the U.S stock market loves him

You could use those same sentiments when it comes to debating the football stories in the media.
  • Pity the nation whose people are sheep
    And whose shepherds mislead them

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
    Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves

Pity the nation that raises not its voice
    Except to praise conquerors
And acclaim the bully as hero
And aims to rule the world
    By force and by torture

    Pity the nation that knows
No other language but its own
And no other culture but its own

Pity the nation whose breath is money
And sleeps the sleep of the too well fed

Pity the nation oh pity the people
who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away

    My country, tears of thee
    Sweet land of liberty!

True, its not all stupid people, but I think the majority are but there are certainly malicious actors involved. I don't think people are truth seeking individuals in this country as much as they claim to be, they just want to hear what sounds good and soundbites to take pot shots at the other side for.

I genuinely think a lot of people do believe those lies and falsities that are perpetuated, (mostly I think by Russia) and spread through stupid people who will happily take the bait and sow the seeds of discontent to further their own personal agendas.

For example I genuinely think the average Reform voter / Anti immigration person genuinely believes that the Housing crisis is due to too many immigrants coming into the country. I don't think that they think its a lie or falsity, I genuinely think they believe that is the reason.
  • The pain of living in a post-truth era.
  • Unfortunately this whack job owner is trying his best to devalue any kind of real truth.

This forum is definitely astand alone as far as West Ham forums go! where else would Ferlinghetti get his poems quoted. A man of courage who initially became famous as he was taken to court and threatened with prison for selling Allen Ginsberg's poem 'Howl' in his City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco. They won the case I seem to recall on the grounds that something of intellectual and artistic merit could not be obscene.

Ginsberg wrote a wonderful poem ' Kaddish' (link below), it does have some strong language, but remember its not obscene. It's long but the first 12 minutes is a stand alone masterpiece.

  • Whilst we are having a cultured moment, when I hear Farage and his like trying to demonise immigrants I am always reminded of this beautiful speech from Thomas More, 'Strangers'

  • I knew nothing of this.

    Thank you for highlighting it!

How I felt after the Brexit vote.
  • I also watched it play out last night with a growing pit in my stomach and the famous prayer came to mind - “grant me the courage to effect change wherever I can, patience whenever I cannot and the wisdom to know the difference”

I was thankful that the result was resounding and thus.not subject to endless legal challenges which in turn defused the likelihood of significant unrest, the next four years are certainly going to be a ride but we have to believe that we can and will, get through them

    Ho hum
  • Shocking events in Amsterdam....

The world is crazy with violent, brainless people acting like complete idiots....
  • From the reports a bunch of Maccabi fans started the trouble and as happens so often any Maccabi fan became a target
  • Exactly Aslef, like I said brainless people who act like idiots and the decent, law abiding football fan gets caught up in their senseless behaviour...

This IMO is a worldwide thing....
  • Each to their own and all that, but I really wouldn't be driving 300 miles to possibly see a dicky bird:

So, the David Coote video. Obviously not clever for it to come out, but, all he's (mostly) doing is expressing a dislike for Klopp because of how Klopp has treated him in the past, which is not unreasonable imo. If not liking a manager is a reason for a referee to get the sack, there wouldn't be one single referee available for the next round of fixtures imo.

I admit the Pickford tackle on VVD was a shocker, but far fewer keepers get penalised when they should (although this is maybe slowly changing), can't quite remember the Arsenal penalty incident. However, let's be honest, plenty of VAR decisions have been awful in the last few years.
  • Ignore the title as this is a very watchable video. Ray Winstone is helping a venture that aims to help young players released from clubs, he has a lot to say about that and West Ham past and present.
