Sky reporting one of the Saudi teams are trying to hijack our move for Kudus.
The report I saw just said "we've seen Saudi clubs make late offers for players, so who knows..." rather than that they are specifically after him.
BUT if it is the case that a Saudi club trumps us then I think that shows that haggling prices is going to be harder and harder. Playing hard ball and negotiating over 2/3 million is fine when there is nobody else who can match your bids, but now the Saudi clubs are throwing money around it feels like that competition is up, and there's going to be less time to sort out a fee.
It will be a simple case of player wants money he goes Saudi, if he has footballing ambition he will stay in Europe. We can't compete with Saudi on money but they can't compete with the top leagues regard football. I don't know I would want a player that went to Saudi this early in their career.
I'm not sure it's a simple as that. A LOT of players in their prime have gone there. The Saudi Pro League is going to become competitive and the standard will rise significantly very quickly, IMO. I don't see the Saudi league the same as the Chinese Super League, honestly.
Interesting. You say 'in their prime' but I wonder how many of them have already won trophies etc in the main European leagues/Cups and are in the last few years of their top level careers, thinking.. if I go now I can get a shedload of money and I've already got a cup/medal. If I stay a few more years in PL, will my chance for Saudi $$$ be gone? In which case I''l have to take a step down when Chelsea/City/Man U don't want me any more. Kind of 'strike while the iron's hot' cos they don't fancy the likely alternatives in 2 years time.
or
in their prime (age wise) but not getting any kind of 'better' club in PL, and no real prospect of glory, so deciding to take the leap now, - stash the cash.
I don't know, obvs, but can see that in a range of circumstances, the appeal is there.
Apparently Ajax wanted to play him so they can get through to ECL group stages. Him scoring 2 goals this evening virtually secures they're through. I can see him signing this weekend.

Being reported that Ajax are insisting he plays in both legs. If so that will only give us Friday to do the medical and get all the paperwork done. Doubt they’ll let us do the medical before the second leg.
Seems like a really nice guy. His answer about what he thinks about West Ham COULD be interpreted as guarded, which COULD suggest he’s thinking about another club.
Lets hope the Ajax fans are more understanding than ours, Rice was perfect until he left and then he got proper abuse from some just for showing enthusiasm for Arsenal AFTER he signed. I think they would have had him playing with a West ham shirt underneath and anytime he scored taking his Arsenal one off and making the hammers sign.

Not if you've got any integrity, obviously.
