So we have a gap in our forward line & in CM. We seem to be linked with Doku tonight, who is a RW. Lingard could also support that role or the spare CM spot.
Some might say DM is trying to spend all the money we have in an attempt to ensure any new manager doesn't have any funds to buy new players?
Because that’s how it works? A manager gets to spend over £100 million on whoever he wants without any questions from a board who may be considering replacing him? Was the moon landing filmed in a studio?
Any manager knows he is judged on results so will spend whatever they have to improve their squad to help those results. As long as its targeted players I am happy for him to spend every penny Sully says is available to him.
Sevilla want to sign West Ham's 27-year-old Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals, who is in the final year of his contract and would cost between £4.3m and £6.8m
Ok... My first thought... Who can anyone buy for 6m these days??? Thuis isnt fantasy football! Fornals is a good player and a good age too. Why would anyone sell him for that? Also, I believe hes worth offering new contract too and he seems like a popular player in the squad too. Lastly,I dont believe the price being quoted but its more to do with someone actually thinking they could print this!
Not a great bargaining position to be in knowing Fornald only had 10 months left of his contract
If he hasn't been offered a new one, which would be insane even if we didn't rate him as a new contract would protect his value, then we only have ourselves to blame
Losing fornals for less than £20mil would be criminal, but it wouldn't surprise me given the situation
Need to extend his (and Soucek deals) can't have two lads in their primes of their career go for peanuts / free
EDIT: Seen some places say we have a 1 year extension activation clause which surely we should be looking to activate

Think the two players for each position is a bit outdated in practise these days
You look at the big teams, they are full of world class but versatile players, usually of around 15 or 16 players who have a genuine shot at a place in the team, followed by about 4 or so back-ups that are used as and when they are required
I can't remember a game where Fornals failed to make a significant pass, assist, score or at least create a great chance. He also works his socks off and is passionate about our club. Why oh why would we let him go. Give hime a new contract now and play him instead of Benhrama.
Alvarez replaced Rice and JWP is probably the Downes replacement if he ends up going the other way
But Downes never started, so if what you want is for Soucek to be out of the starting line up then Alvarez replaces Rice, Ward-Prowse replaces Soucek, Soucek replaces Downes.
I am 100% certain Soucek will start next week. But I'm also certain that signing another CM isn't going to change that, tbh. I think we're getting to a point where we have 4 CMs that realistically are good enough to start for us (Soucek, Alvarez, JWP, Paqueta), which is great, and will see us rotating more than we have in the past.
The way I view it, if you play a front/midfield 3 you have 5 players who compete for those positions, not 6
And that 5 is usually 2 or 3 of those are specialists in one area and the others are a bit more versatile
Like Liverpool have Salah (RW) and Dias (LW) supported by 3 versatile guys in Nunes, Jota and Gakpo
Arsenal have something similar Nketiah (CF), Saka (RW) and Martinelli (LW) supported by Trossard and Jesus who can play across the front 3
Man City actually have a small squad, their midfield/attack conssits of 6 players and is competed with Rodri, Kovacic, Phillips, Foden, Bernardo, Grealish, Palmer, Haaland & Alvarez. That's 9 players for 6 positions
Easier to do with money and better quality players but don't need a full squad of 25 anymore, all to compete for minutes

Based on what I've read, absolutely nobody is saying that.
Re, Moyes' transfer window strategy is to engineer a scenario where any future manager has no budget...
Is that what you actually think?

Soucek has just signed a 4 year extension.
Is it official, can't see it on the Official website
Always good to start the day with a good laugh though, so thanks for that mate.👍

If you're talking 'players with a genuine shot' at a place in the XI, I would say we have:
Areola / Fabianski / Coufal / Kehrer / Zouma / Aguerd / Emerson / Cresswell / Soucek / JWP / Alvarez / Fornals / Paqueta / Bowen / Antonio / Benrahma
And then your other backups would be:
Ogbonna / Ings / Cornet
