Can you do a partnership of Paqueta and Alvarez v others? When I did a rough check of defensive work, Paqueta actually came out better than McT so is it true that we can’t afford to play him in a two?
I've added in Paqueta 2021/22 & 2022/23 stats. As 2021/22 was in Ligue 1 I've done the same thing as I did for Fofana and only used 90% of the stats. I've also changed the colour scheme, so it basically highlights if that pairing has the best (green) or the worst (red) stats of the set.
Interestingly, 2020/21 Rice & Soucek don't have the best stats as ANY other pairing in ANY category, and have the worst in 10 of the 26 measures. Paqueta's Lyon form and and Alvarez looks to be the best pairing for most attacking metrics.
Something else I found interesting when looking at the Paqueta stats in particular is that his role for us is quite different to his role for Lyon. He does the same sort of stuff, but he carried the ball a lot less for us, and he received the ball hgh up the pitch WAY less for us. He made a lot more 'defensive actions' for us than for Lyon too, which basically means he plays much deeper and more as a CM than an AM for us, so the Alvarez / Paqueta pairing could be a reality.
Personally, Paqueta would not be a massive loss to a club like us, as our style & system doesn’t get the best out of him. Had we a different coaching set-up & style, he’d be a devastating loss, but not in our ‘sit deep, low block, 40% possession, counter-attacking’ system. We could find another player more suited to that who would be more influential to us. Ask for £100m & wait for the offer.

Surely we would have to get Fofana if we let Paqueta go? Paqueta likes to get stuck in and is the only player that keeps his cool and actually tries to play out for the counter attack.
But City haven't made on offer, so how to you make the ITK right? Or has another club been reported as interested? (As you can tell, I'm not exactly giving all the transfer stuff my full attention!)
I reckon it's all a bit frustrating for people to comment, not having a pop @Lukerz, that this player doesn't suit our style of play! Why does the club (manager) keep buying players if they don't meet his criteria? The list of very good signings we have made & have then subsequently jettisoned at a loss, considerable in a few cases, gets longer by the year. I know some will roll out the they weren't a Moyes signing but the facts are still there that Haller, Anderson, Vlasic all left losing us money.
@Lukerz, I will be interested to see how much Todibo costs in comparison to Maguire. Amrabat would have been a good one for us although I will admit he was fairly adamant he wasn't going to join anyone else by Manchester United.
It's actually quite impressive that on the day that we're finally going to announce a new signing, the Paqueta story breaks. We can't just have one day of positive news, can we.
I can believe the rumours, to be honest. Anyone watching the Leverkusen game on Saturday will have seen how frustrated Paqueta looked. We were completely played off the pitch and without Rice, Paqueta looked very lost.
And is it a coincidence that both Scamacca and Paqueta changed agents mid-season? Did both realise that they'd been sold down the river somewhat in terms of how we play the game?
I really don't get the amount of bile against Maguire, I don't like him, I don't know why I don't know him maybe it's his grumpy face. I have never paid too much attention to him but when he has played for England he seems a solid defender both on the ground and in the air and can carry the ball out from the back. He can't be that bad and I reckon he could be a perfectly good player for us.
30m for Maguire is so bad. A 30 year old with no upswing and has lead to countless goals being given away in a Man U shirt. He would need to 180 his career. Seems like 30m down the drain again.

I think its more that we are paying £30+ for someone that hardly played last season. He's going to be on big wages and his confidence has clearly gone. Its a big risk.
WHU have a meltdown sale. Any decent player not for sale or doesn't want to leave? Creswell, Antonio, Soucek, Coufal, Bowen, Pacqueta, Downes, Johnson, Benrahma, all mentioned in news items unless journalists stoking unrest. The atmosphere inside the Club must be toxic. It does not bode well for the next season.
I'm torn on Maguire. Southgate obviously sees something in him and he was a very good player in his Leicester days, but for ETH to have stripped him of the captaincy and play Shaw ahead of him at centre back is a bit of a red flag, to be honest.
If he's a player the manager really wants, then I can see the argument for signing him. Problem is, how much faith do we have in the manager's choices? And if Moyes goes at the end of his contract, the new manager is stuck with a 31 year old Maguire for another few years on £100k+ a week.
Feels like another short-term, short-sighted signing IMO.
@Whitehorsehammer, Reports about him saying we weren't good enough or a big enough team for him isn't the best way of getting fans on your side.
But did he actually say that?
The original quote came from C&H
A source inside United’s Carrington training base told us: “It’s not just United who think West Ham’s current offer is low-ball, Harry sees other players moving for far bigger sums, without half his experience and pedigree.
“He knows United want him out and may be bluffing over his price, but even Harry thinks he is worth more than £20m – especially to someone like David Moyes who needs a centre-half in quickly and knows he is road-tested in the Premier League.”

Incomings:
Confirmation of Edson Alvarez
Movement on James Ward-Prowse
Movement on Harry Maguire
Outgoings:
Clarity on Paqueta situation
I’m sure he’d be amazing at City.

A lot will depend on whether Bernardo Silva signs his new deal.

Most accurate ITK for Man Utd

Imagine what he’ll do with Maguire. He’s a much more sensible signing that somebody like Paqueta or Scamacca.

So no proof that Maguire actually said that and supposedly it was the offer of £20m rhe was "insulted" by not the club itself
