  • ‘according to Il Tempo (h/t Forza Roma), Roma’s General Manager, Tiago Pinto, will travel to London next week to have more talks over bringing Scamacca to the Italian capital.
Pinto may have one ace up his sleeve too. The outlet also note that the Giallorossi are willing to offer central defender, Roger Ibanez, as part of the deal to take Scamacca the other way.
It still may not be enough to persuade West Ham to do business, but there seems little point in them keeping a player that so obviously doesn’t want to be there and may poison the dressing room in so doing’
  • I really like Scamacca but cannot see any reason why we should just cave in and allow him to go for about half what we paid for him unless of course the purchasing club have a deal which suits us. A loan deal is of no use to us as how are we going to replace him unless we redistribute some of the PWNWCM funds to buy a new striker?
  • Has Scamaca actually said he doesn’t want to stay at West Ham? Genuine question.

We don’t believe all that is said in UK newspapers, TV, etc. Why should Italian press be any different?
  • It’s also worth noting that Sassuolo receive 10% of any transfer fee
  • I thought he had about 100 appearances but I’m not sure what your point is. He’s been an assistant manager/coach or manager/head coach. As far as I’m aware he’s not been a technical director. He’s always had control at the clubs.

My point is that a count of someone’s professional appearances doesn’t equate to skill in their subsequent off pitch role. If lots of appearances meant someone would be a good technical director someone would have appointment Neville Southall.
  • “But the pressing issue is the prolonged search for Rice’s replacement. Internally, the hierarchy knew in December that this window was their last chance to earn a sizeable fee for Rice. But the haphazard nature of their bids for his successor has left [a lot] to be desired.

“The Athletic, on condition of anonymity to protect relationships, has spoken to leading agents in football and some expressed frustration over how West Ham are conducting their business.

“History shows West Ham have a tendency of making underwhelming opening offers and that is continuing this summer, a case in point being the £20m offer for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, which was rejected out of hand.”

    Cool
  • Buyer makes offer below asking price shocker
  • Rumours this morning:
New round of talks scheduled for this week for Denis Zakaria.
Talks opened with Manchester United for Scott McTominay & Harry Maguire.

Remember when Lukerz said there was no chaos at the club.

It's starting to look like there is.

The more reputable journos and ITKs are all reporting the same things (lack of cohesion and agreement at the top and lowball offers); accusations that are supported by the fact that we haven't done any business outside of signing a youth team winger from NI.

No business at this stage if pre-season is bad enough in normal circumstances, but to have not replaced, or even have a plan to replace, Rice - having at least 12 months warning - is negligent, IMO.

Historically we have failed to build from positions of strength, and here we are again. There is time left to address the issues, but does anyone have confidence that we will?

Yeh but are they realistic offers, like if a house is for sale at £500k are you really gonna offer £350k, I think not, perhaps a cheeky offer of £450k….
Just my opinion of what seems to be somewhat of a poor set up at present,
And no guys/girls I don’t have any concrete evidence ⚒️
  • It’s not chaos, though. You look at the team last night, compared to the days of Luis Boa Morte, Kovac, Spector, McCartney, O’Brien, Diame, Jarvis. It’s a talented squad of players.

We need 3/4 more signings, I think we all agree. Two CMs, maybe another forward option (wing/striker) & possibly another CB & full-back (if Cresswell goes). But it’s not chaos. We have a decent 11.
  • Downes we signed for £12m. We can’t just discount him. He is now the man to replace Rice (as it stands). Whether he is good enough, time will tell.

Just to highlight the potential we have.

Also, playing Fornals RW instead of Bowen just shows we need another wide option. Fornals has never played well on the right. If Bowen picks up a 6 week injury, that’s an issue & we’d be forced to change formation.

    CM x 2
    WG
    CB
    ST (if G11S goes)
    LB (if A3C goes)

I mean, you say time will tell, but, for me at least, the answer is already clear. He’s not got enough to replace Rice. Downes and Soucek will not be a good enough pairing. Both are fine, but to be a first choice pairing is beyond them.

Chaos: a state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order

I would argue that if there's any truth to the Guardian article yesterday, then what we're seeing could be described as chaos.

Of course we've had it worse, but we should be in much better position than we are in terms of competence and cohesion at the top, IMO.
  • But Soucek & anybody is going to be less than Rice. You could argue possible two new CMs may improve us but Rice is a £105m rated footballer for a reason.

Yes, but I’m not expecting us to sign two CMs that improve us from last year. But the current drop off is much more significant than it might be if we go and sign two CMs that are better than Soucek.
  • On recent form lots of players would replace Soucek. It must be a bit sole destroying for Downes that Mr Moyes can see that.
  • I don’t think we should be so quick to write off Soucek. He was player of the year a couple of years back, and hopefully can regain some of that form. He’s played 2nd fiddle to Rice the last couple of years, and has therefore been playing a slightly different role.

Anyone could look poorer beside Rice. Was Soucek blamed for everything when “the golden boy”was around?
  • I’m not writing him off, and I certainly wouldn’t want him gone or anything like that. My concern would be that he hasn’t been in form for some time now, and relying on him recapturing that would be risky.
  • For me the issue isn’t about writing off Soucek as a player or wanting him gone but that any midfield partnership is going to look drastically different without Rice. If we accept we won’t find a player who will replace Rice by themselves, then we need to find two who will do what Rice did. In that case where’s the space for Soucek? Can he be one of the two? He can’t drive like Rice did or release counter attacks and I don’t really think he comes close to Rice’s ability defensively. Even if we did accept him as the DM in a partnership, we then lose his the attacking threat he offered when at his best. I think keeping Soucek in the starting lineup means you have to think carefully about a very specific type of DM to play alongside him.

That’s not to say he’s done or should be sold, just that I think we need to buy two midfielders either way or someone who can do what Rice did two seasons ago and hope Soucek can recapture form.
  • The other option would be to play him slightly ahead , in a Tim Cahill / Marouane Fellaini role, with Paqueta and another sitting in the two. Paqueta does a lot of good defensive work, can drive with the ball, and can pass well from deep.
  • The club has failed this window its that simple. They sold our star captain and are probably not going to replace him before the league starts.

If they didn't have a replacement lined up ready to come in once he was sold then they don't sell him to Arsenal until they have one.

This should be the same for every player that we sell.

If the Scamacca to Roma rumours are true then that's another striker axed and gone in the long list before him and probably another striker not going to be replaced.
  • I reckon they should just shorten the window to a couple of weeks. That way things get done quicker. All this waiting around for signings just winds me up hahaha.

Could I just ask, why do you support West Ham old chap? It seems to give so much to get upset about.😉
Probably better off with a club that wins everything and buys the best players in the world, it’d do you the world of good I reckon.⚒👍

Certainly shorten it, and have it finish on 31st July for all major European leagues so that it's shut before the season starts. I can't see a good argument for not doing so, every team would go into the new season with their team already sorted and not at risk of losing a player once the season has started.

  • If there's competition for him from Italian clubs, we shouldn't be considering these dreadful deals.
