  • Depending on who we sign, I'm not against us loaning out Downes, and Soton might well be after him given their new manager was in charge at Swansea when Downes was there. I'm really not at all keen on us taking JWP, and certainly for nothing over £20m which I can't see Soton accepting. He just strikes me as a typical Moyes type signing, and he's too old for the sort of money Soton will be after.
  • I feel like I’m in an ever decreasing minority, but I really rate Wars-Prowse and think he’d be a brilliant signing.
  • I like him to. I think we just need to be careful of overpaying going on his age. But he would be an incredible asset imo.
  • I’m not against JWP but I think there’s a lot of hype around him because of his free-kicks, which pushes his price higher. I don’t think he’s good enough in general play to be paying more than £20-30m for. But maybe I’m being reactionary - I hate it when big club fans rave about a player they’ve only ever seen on some MOTD highlights.
  • We have previous for not being pro active in our transfer dealings so end up not getting our rumoured top targets like Eze the other year as we had to sell before we could buy. Aston Villa spent the Grealish money before he had even left we meanwhile ……😬?

Exactly the point i was trying to make in an earlier post.

  • Did we not spend the Rice money last year?
  • I know it’s his name, but the notion of “spending the rice money” is very Jack and the Beanstalk
  • Speaking of KUMB, this basically sums up transfer windows:

  • Football Insider claim that Newcastle are prepared to sell Allan Saint-Maximin in order to land Harvey Barnes

    https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-newcastle-willing-to-sell-phenomenal-player-to-make-room-for-new-signing/

Saint-Maximin has been linked with Everton, Crystal Palace and Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia by various sources in the last few days
  • Alex Scott would be a very good signing. I hope we don't dither, but put a proper offer in for him.

Yep, I really want us to get serious about this transfer and make it happen ASAP, this strikes me as one where paying what they're asking just to make it happen will be well worth it in the end.
  • I've mentiond Scott a couple of times but now I've had my head turned by a shiny new St Max instead of Barnes
  • Football insider is the worst of the worst
  • West Ham have registered their interest in a deal to sign Senegal forward Habib Diallo, 28, from Strasbourg. (Football Insider)
  • What does that mean exactly. We’ve put our name down on a list to perhaps talk to them?
  • Manchester Evening News reporting that United want £50m for Maguire, "a figure that is highly unlikely to be offered by any club".

Given there's talk of Man Utd paying him off wages-wise, I can imagine someone paying £20-30m, but I really hope it's not us, it would be dreadful business imo.

Who is this Betis defender Felipe that we are being heavily linked with? Now on sky sports news. Everyone on social media seems to be implying he is utter garbage.
  • @Hamstew, Sounds just like a West Ham signing. 😉
  • Everyone on social media said that about Dawson as well
  • True but I'm just asking if anyone knows who he is, if they've seen him play. I knew who Dawson was.

Well I’ve read he’s Italian on some sites and Brazilian on others, if that helps 🤣😳
  • Born in Brazil, capped for Italy once because of an Italian great-grandfather (which I thought was one step too far)

    Same as Emerson
  • I really don't understand our transfer budget ,if we have to wait for the Rice money does that mean if we did not sell him that our budget would be zero .Can't believe that ,Must be something in the kitty
  • We’re linked to U21 Captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis on BBC.

Luiz Felipe got called up to the Italian squad for the UEFA Nations League in June and September but apart from coming on at half time against Germany to win his first and only cap he spent the entire time on the bench

He wasn't called up for the friendlies in November, got called up for the Euro 2024 qualifiers in March but was left out of the matchday squad and was left out for the UEFA Nations League finals last month

He so much on the fringe that he could be a split end

I suspect it's more a case of having 2 different lists, one based on keeping Rice, and one for if we sell him.

Say, without Rice, we have a £60m budget for 4 new players, if Rice goes we have £160m for 5 new players. If Rice stays, we're looking at players about the £15m mark, if he goes then we're able to spend £30m a player. Likely to be completely different shopping lists, and might well mean that we're unwilling to commit, say, £35m on Barnes without knowing for sure Rice is going, as if he stays we've then got 3 further players to find but we've blown half over half our budget just on Barnes.
