  • I really hope we replace him with something adequate.
  • I am just so pleased we got that trophy during this period of having him, as had we lost the final we would be up against it getting close to doing it again without Dec around. In that period where we had Dec playing for us, we managed to achieve a Europa League semi-final & win a European trophy.
  • He doesn’t want to play for us so get rid quick

wonder if we will enquire for a loan deal for an Arsenal player if they cant keep to a 18 month pay structure as a sweetner

Tierney or Zinchenko as new left back? They don't need both!

And as a by-product, the fact that we can offer Europa League football again next season as a result of winning the ECL will help attract the calibre of players we'll need to replace him.
  • Pep has made a mistake in dropping out, he really can't afford Arsenal having him.
  • New rules about maximum payment periods being introduced by UEFA from 1 July.

This will affect the balance sheet (and impact FFP) as a big transfer fee can't be spread across longer periods even if the contract exceeds 5 years.

£105m with a year left on his contract (albeit two with the extension), is a cracking deal for us.

    Thanks for everything, Dec.
  • Do you think if I quickly send him a video on instagram of Arsenal fan tv he might change his mind and stay? 🙏🏻
  • Not yet confirmed I hope

A top signing for Arsenal. I don’t expect him to go backwards like a few players have done when leaving a club for a ‘bigger’ team. A good deal for all parties. We get £105m & just won our first piece of silverware in how long, Rice now gets a move to a side competing at the top/Champions League & Arsenal get a quality player who is only 24.
  • It's only a good deal for us if we spend the £105m wisely and bring in players that mitigate Rice going.

It might take a couple of players, i.e. a replacement for Rice and an upgrade on Soucek, and I really hope we've been working on these players in the background.

Rice was always going in this window, so we've known for a while what we will likely need. With Europa League football we should be able to attract a good level of player.

We’re certainly in the best position possible to make the signings needed to replace him; Europa League football, silverware 3 weeks ago.

We managed to sign the likes of Scamacca, Aguerd, Paqueta, Emerson, Cornet with just Europa Conference League football last summer.

2/3 midfielders needed, I’d say. We’ve lost Lanzini too. 3 midfielders who, between them, should hopefully replace what we lose with Rice.

We won’t replace him. We just need to try & mop up players who have as many of his traits as possible.

They’ll all be Rice fans in the morning.

    Fickle football fans 🤷‍♂️
  • Pleased for Dec and have huge respect for how professionally he has handled this situation. Wish him well for his future career.
  • Glad to come over here for some sanity.
I have just been browsing over on KUMB and some of the vitriol being dished out to Declan Rice is unbelievable.

It's the timing and the destination, more than anything, I think.

We lost Cole and Johnson to London rivals in 2003, but we had just been relegated, so I think the fans understood why they wanted to leave. Carrick even went to Spurs but at least he gave us a season in the Championship before he jumped ship.

Rice, however, is going to a rival after winning a European trophy and securing a third season in a row with European football. For all of his talk about wanting to win things, he's gone to Arsenal. I accept that they are more likely to win things than us, but I honestly don't think he'll have a major haul of silverware in his time there.

I don't think people would feel as angry as they do if he was going abroad. Payet leaving really hurt but at least he was back in France. It's the fact that we'll see Rice week in, week out in an Arsenal shirt, knee-sliding towards the Arsenal fans that were calling him a terrible player 12 months ago and, eventually, kissing the Arsenal badge that people are upset about.

Always sad to see a player leave , especially one of our own but it was a bit inevitable I s’pose.
Yes it will be hard to watch him in an Arsenal shirt next season ( for a long time I couldn’t watch Chelsea with Joe and Frank playing for them)but we’ll move on and keep supporting our club and hope to prove him wrong.
In the meantime good luck son hope your dreams come true.
  • Do people actually feel angry about him going to Arsenal? I couldn't really care less where he goes, so long as we get the right amount of money for him.

We lost Joe Cole for £6.6m. We lost Glen Johnson for £6m. We lost Craig Bellamy for £15m. We lost Dimitri Payet for half of what he was worth.

We've been stripped of our best assets and given peanuts in exchange for years.

I'm over it now and just want it done so we can move on.
"The badge on the front of the shirt is more important than the name on the back" and all that...

I’m not angry. Thank him for everything & once he moves I focus on worrying about the current team & future signings.

He’s been here for almost half his life on earth, 10 years. He’s not a West Ham fan. He doesn’t owe us anything & the ECL trophy win was the perfect time to sign off.

Now if he was going to Tottenham that would be a different matter.
I didn't realise the hate for Arsenal until now.I know quite a few Arsenal supporters and the one thing we have in common is our dislike for Tottenham.
Yes it's going to hurt to see Rice in an arsenal shirt but we all knew this day was going to come sooner or later so lets just try and get over it.
"No player is bigger than the club"
  • All the Arsenal fans I know think they are overpaying and he ain't that good. Won't be long until they turn on him if things don't start going there way.
  • One thing we’ve been appalling at is selling players at a profit. We have managed to do that with Rice. It’s important for clubs like us to make money from players & reinvest in the squad.

Brighton are having to do it too. They are losing Mac Allister & Caicedo in the same window, having only recently lost Cucurella. Tottenham are having to fight to keep Harry Kane. Man City just lost Gundogan to Barcelona. There are always clubs willing to take your best players, no matter who you are.
  • At the end of the day only one other team think he’s worth the money.
I really do wonder if let’s say Chelsea had come in for him ( being another London team ) with probably more chance of winning things IMO and a greater recent history of success would Arsenal have been his preferred destination, personally think they will finish outside the top 4 this coming season and in a way I hope they do….

I know, a good proportion of the guys over there are just beyond bitter, a few even going as far as to wish injury on him.

With the squad they have, finishing outside the top four would be abysmal.

    They are looking at:

    Ramsdale
    White - Gabriel - Saliba - Zinchenko
    Odegaard - Rice - Havertz
    Saka - Jesus - Martinelli

    It’s some team (on paper).
  • On paper you right, just can’t see them making top 4…
Chelsea and Liverpool are going to have most likely much improved seasons ahead and think Arsenal will do their usual bottle job at some stage…
  • I wonder if there will be some big PR thing from the club & Rice before the deal is confirmed, like an exit interview & statement.
