I dont understand anger. Payet provoked it but as others have said its mre out of hurt plus pain of a favourite leaving.
I'd rather he stayed but we got him for free, had many games with him influencing the team and are selling for 100+M Our best profit ever and most likely will stay so too. I dont begrudge him going. If he doesnt want to stay then this is the best scenario for us financially.
I have no beef with Arsenal. If he had gone to Spurs I still wouldnt be angry, I'd have lost all respect for him. Its just not done
Once he's gone then he's an ex West Ham player. I'll want him to do well for England (obviously) but outside of that, he's a defensive MF in a team which has the likes of Odegaard in it so its not like he'll be the star in the team.
Like the argie guy at Chelsea, 100M for a DM is just too much for me. So I'm more than happy with the money but as with all of us, I hope we spend it on some quality
I think very few are worth that money but I think he is. I think he improves any team he is in and with better players around him he will be even better.
If Rice goes to Arsenal or Man Utd I will be unable to wish him well or any trophy success, why the hell does he want to go, especially after the adulation he received from the Hammers loyal supporters....I am gutted that our club shows no ambition to grasp the great opportunity before of us...

What should the club be doing to ‘grasp the great opportunity’ in your view?
Rice is not yet finished article, but I believe he is not far away, and the club could build quality around him, he would lead the best of youth forward and we could attract to players. If we lose Paqueta as well, whats the point of having a 60000+ stadium if we cant fill it.We should aspire to be a big club and we can only do that by retaining our best players

The days of being able to unilaterally hold on to players is long gone. As much as I'd love Rice to see his long term future as being with us, he's made it abundantly clear that he's not going to sign another contract. For me, this past season was a bonus, as I felt he was going last summer.
Yes, we could have insisted that he stayed and saw out the whole of his contract, but then he is possibly demotivated, and he walks for nothing in two years time. It's also possible other young players (not as young as Rice was when he joined, but good prospects at 22 or 23) would be reluctant to join us if they feel that we'll never let them leave.
As it is we're getting a very decent price for him which, if used properly, should be able to strengthen the squad and the starting 11.

So what is it the club should do? Keep him until he leaves for free? I’m not sure the club are missing an opportunity, IMO.
A professional footballer wants to be the best he can and win as much as he can
Arsenal have won the Premier League three times and were close to winning this season whereas we haven't been close since 1986.
He will be playing in the Champions League next season, something we can only dream of
We are a mid-table team and Moyes has been outstanding to get us European football three seasons in a row. Arsenal have played in Europe every season since 1993 apart from 2021/22
If Arsenal want to pay the payments over five years and we say no it's eighteen months then we still have some way to go. Good on you DS for sticking to your guns. Let's squeeze their pips a bit more!
If we sell Rice on HP over 5 years then we’ll have to look for the same deals with anyone we try to buy and that won’t be easy as Arsenal are finding out.
I think for virtually all clubs, the modern day way is not to think a player will be at your club for any length of time. It's about resale and bringing in like for like quality or better. If we have tried holding a gun to his head then fair enough I dont think it shows a lack of club ambition, more so player power. For us, finding a very good replacement and using the rest of the bonus money we get for Rice is the only thing we can aspire to do
I really love it when people roll out the "we are a mid table team", yes we may be & we will remain so if we keep letting our best players leave and don't show any ambition to break the trend. We have had two top seven finishes in 2 of the last three seasons and we know why there wasn't possibly a higher 1in at least one of them due to our lack of transfer activity in the January window of that season. Lets hope a change is a foot and we purchase some new players with the £100 million we are getting to make us really competitive.
People seem to think that this paying over 5 years is unique. I’m pretty sure the whole reason players get long contracts is to spread payments. It’s pretty normal.
It’s for the buying club to sort out how they pay their players not the selling. Arsenal can’t say they’d love to buy Rice and pay him £300k per week but can’t afford that if we give you £100M over 18 months but if we spread it over 5 years we can and everybody is happy…..except of course us.
The other thing to remember is that Dec isn't a West Ham fan so the loyalty that some would feel to their boyhood club is not there. Noble grew up in Canning town and only ever loved West Ham, Dec was a Chelsea fan so it's perfectly natural he can move on for footballing reasons more easily than we would like to feel he can.
Has been a great player for us, lifted the first trophy in many years and now puts 100m in our transfer kitty. All feels ok to me.

Did everyone know about this except me?
Once again, my culture gap is gaping!
One more day, one more day, Declan Rice 🎵

Tick tock, you Gooners.
