I think they'll make a big deal about it. It's our captain, our best player, the first person to lift a trophy in over 40 years, one of only three people to lift a major trophy for us in our history. Throw in that it's also a British record transfer, our record sale by a long, long way, and I think they have to make some kind of deal of it all.

At the golf club this morning, talking to an Arsenal supporter ( yes, the club let's them in), who met Dec at the clubhouse yesterday . He asked Dec for his autograph (in his Arsenal book), to which he replied " I can't, it's not confirmed"
He signed it out of courtesy.

The club has effectively confirmed it by removing 'Rice 41' from the merch options. The only other reason to do this was if Rice was changing number, but he's said previously that 41 is part of his brand so wouldn't do that.

He's gone; it's just a matter of when it gets announced. Very soon, hopefully.

Even if we get half the Rice money next year we’d still likely pay any fees over a couple of years anyway, so I don’t think it matters loads.

I suppose I look at our needs and who we've been linked with and I don't know that £105m will get us what's required, however it's structured.

I'm also a bit surprised that given how deals are spread nowadays, we don't have any capital to play with until Rice is gone (if the article is correct, of course).

The more I think about this the more ridiculous the amount of money we have got for him is. I love the guy but £105m is out of this world for a DM. I applaud the club if we get the bulk upfront and reinvest it.
Like I say I love they guy but he wasn't even that great for us last season.
I was initially gutted but as time has passed I'm looking forward to getting some players in.

@Hamstew, So am I, my only concern is who is going to have final say on which players we sign as if it is Mr Sullivan or David Moyes there is a worry it may not have a great outcome. 😬

This should all be over on Friday. Various ITKs reporting that West Ham and Arsenal have now reached an agreement on the fee and the structure, and Rice has been given permission to undergo his medical on Friday.

Hopefully that means we can start bidding on players that we want; ideally we'd have a couple in for the Australia tour but I have my doubts.

FabRom has again stated that Rice has been talking to Arsenal since January. I'd be disappointed in this was true, but not surprised.

When you see how quickly things can be done on deadline day, this does seems like an unnecessary delay.

But I guess they've got to do the seemingly obligatory farewell message across various media platforms (see Neves and Mount). Rice will have to clear out his locker and have his exit interview with HR. Do his handover. That kind of thing.

I don't really understand why we need it to be completely done to start making bids. Given the time it takes (two days to sign some paper?!), any deal wouldn't be done for a while anyway. If the deal falls through and we suddenly don't need a replacement, then we just pull out of the deal?

I do wonder if we've progressed some of the deals quietly in the background so that we can announce signings quite quickly after Rice leaves. I'm sure they won't want to top news on the club site being that Rice has left for long.

Yeah, I think we're all hoping that the club has been proactive and got some deals lined up. Steidten came in with little fanfare, but once Rice has gone I'm expecting a full interview with him focusing on the future. I expect the kit launch and possibly a new player or two will also be used to bury the Rice news.
