  • I think City will go to £100m. They set a precedent with Grealish and Rice would arguably be a more important player to them.

Then it's up to Arsenal to match it.
  • If £80m + £10m add ons is City's opening bid, you'd think we can get it to £100m total (including realistic add ons).
  • I can't see how arsenal match it. How will they bid more money with it being needing to be paid over a shorter period?

In short, Arsenal can’t afford their number 1 target.

But have just shown West Ham & Rice’s team they are happy to spend £65m on Havertz.

    So what do we reckon

    £80m + £10m - Arsenal bid 1
    £75m + £15m - Arsenal bid 2

    £80m + £10m - Man City bid 1 (paid over shorter period)

All three bids amount to £90m. Are we going to on get much more?

If it is to be believed Arsenals add ons are unrealistic targets.I don't know what City's are?

    Then they've blown it.
  • He is worth and we will get 100m in my view, I would actually insist on 100m without add ons. If they include add ons with City they need be tied to title and CL victories, with Arsenal it needs be Champions league qualification (or cariboo cups).
  • Question - What do you think the club would rather accept an Arsenal offer nearer our valuation so £100m plus £15m with realistic add ons being paid over several years or a Manchester City one of £100m with no add ons which we get in two years?

I dont think either club are going to get to 100m +addons for a deal.

I think the club might get to a position where its 90m +10m addons to get to 100m.
  • I also don't think it will be paid up front regardless of the deal. Modern transfers just aren't done that way. We might be able to spread it over fewer years than the buyer would like, but it won't be a lump sum.

    Now it's really getting going.
  • My Arsenal supporting friend reckons they should just pay what we want. Blowing a big fee on Havertz shows they have, or had, the money. Their fans typically seem to want Rice, and see the long term value.
  • Nooooooo please not there
  • Tbh, as long as we get upwards of £100m (any add-ons included have to be realistic and expected to be achieved) then I'm not overly bothered. I'd prefer him to go to City just because I like them more than Arsenal (especially under Arteta), but my concern is West Ham and the money we get for Rice to help take the team forward.
  • I know your right buffy ,But there leaves a nasty taste in my mouth

It‘s a shame for him that he is restricting himself to London. He could achieve so much if he went to Man City or Bayern Munich, in terms of silverware & competing at the business end of competitions. Just look at Bayern trying to sign Harry Kane. But if Arsenal is who he wants, they do play good football & do have a young side. It’s just a shame they don’t seem to have the money to get him.

Arsenal just can’t afford him. £80m paid over 4/5 years tells you they won’t be able to offer us the sort of money we want, within the time we want it.
  • How's it a shame for him if it's his preference?
  • Telegraph reporting that West Ham have received two additional ‘verbal offers’ since the Man City offer; with both offers more than the £90m package offered by City. Club is hoping the offers are formalised, officially.
  • It's getting to stage it should now for such a hot property. We state what we will accept and Dec chooses it from those who meet our valuation. I am sure all involved know it's 100m.

I expect both City and Arsenal to meet it and Dec to have chosen by the weekend or soon after. It's possible United will meet the valuation also but I don't think he will consider them seriously as if happy to move to Manchester it has to be City.
  • City want him mainly to stop Arsenal getting him, imo.

Waiting for Man Utd to trump them both.

    It's gonna happen

I agree and I think it's a good move as I feel he is a player who will help them to close the gap on Man City. By taking Rice I think they will have a stranglehold on the title next season.
  • Be interesting to see what the breakdown of the bid is. £100m over 4/5 years is not going to be accepted, I doubt.
  • £105m is a British record. Going to be very hard to reject that given he has 2 years left on his contract. I wonder if we will give City a chance to respond.
  • TalkSPORT report that Rice has also held talks with Newcastle.
