Scamacca will be great! I have no negative or worry vibe going on at all with him. Also he has no Lingard big I am about him and seems very level headed. I really like what I have seen and read.
In his second season with us we'll be getting PSG & co hassling us and we'll eventually sell for a massive profit (giving 10% of that to Sassoulo)
If we get the rumoured £15-£18m for Diop I think we'll be in the market for a decent quality CB. Aguerd is likely out for a minimum of 2 months, Ogbonna is coming back from a big injury and is no spring chicken, Dawson is currently coming back from something more minor but is lacking a pre-season, and Zouma himself missed games through injury last season.
Given that both Dawson and Ogbonna are out of contract next summer, and they'll be 33 and 35 respectively, a degree of succession planning rather than short-term fixing would surely be the more sensible option.
The only reason we are letting Diop leave is because we've signed Aguerd and have five first team centre backs to fill four places.
Moyes won't be looking for another centre back this window although I'm sure he is is already considering candidates to replace Oggy
Scamacca will be used in rotation with Antonio, reckon he will start on the bench against City and gradually be eased into the team (it's the Moyesian way)
Both Ex and Roshane Thomas of The Athletic are saying that Moyes is after another CB (if Diop goes).
I personally think there are enough doubts over Ogbonna's fitness to warrant another one brought in if we sell Diop; as Buffy says, just treat it as succession planning for Og and Dawson.
If there were doubts over Oggy's fitness why would Moyes give him a 1-year contract extension and why would Diop be allowed to leave?
Loyalty? A sense of duty? Emergency back-up? No-one knows, but I think any 34-year-old that suffers an ACL/MCL injury would be considered a potential risk going forward.
Re Diop, I think it's evident that Moyes doesn't rate him. Was behind Balbuena when he was here, and was 4th choice last season and likely 5th choice this time round.
I always thought Diop was a pretty good centre back, maybe the negativity around him has snowballed? It might just take a few social media critical comments and starts from there.
Slacker, it just goes to show how we’re all different in what we perceive. I always thought Diop seemed to be marking fresh air a lot of the time. Who’d be a football manager eh?
ASLEF, Whisper it quietly but we're not getting a new LB IF so that will be a shame IMHO.
I'm okay with it.
Same as last season, Cresswell as first choice LB, Coufal as first choice RB
Johnson as second choice to both in order to get maximum playing time (maybe promoted to first choice LB by the end of the season)
Arthur as 3rd choice, only playing when Coufal and Cresswell are both unavailable/rested.
Cresswell will be out of contract at the end of the season and seems to be making plans to return to Merseyside so Moyes will wait until next summer for a new LB
I think Moyes will bring in a left back. Or at least will want to. Ex has been pretty insistent that he's targeting one and we've been consistently linked with a few over the past few weeks.
To my eyes, Cresswell has been at fault for at least two goals during pre-season already, and cost us a few last season too, and that was before the EL brain-fades. I'd be surprised if Moyes didn't see this. He may not spend big on a left-back this window, but I think he'll bring one in on loan at least.
Kral doesn't need replacing. Downes covers both Noble and Kral. As for a LB, haven't we been connected with Luke Thomas?
If both Rice and Soucek are unavailable we have Downes with either Lanzini, Fornals or Conor Coventry (if he's still here). I'd rather have an extra CM as cover

Yup, if Rice and Soucek are the starting two then each needs a similar replacement, IMO. Downes, whilst a long way off Rice, is a decent DM, but we need someone who can effectively replicate Soucek's role. I don't think Lanzini, Fornals or Coventry can do that, personally.
How much do we know about Downes though? Is Coventry really not up to it? Personally I’d love to see them both given their chance at some point and hopefully they will.

Agreed but Kral and Noble weren't real cover for Rice and Soucek. Onana and Zielinski are more like it.
Downes is quality on the ball in terms of holding technique and distribution (or he wouldnt have been bought or put up those stats in a possession oriented team). If he starts in the team I have to admit I think he'll impress. He's a West Ham fan so he'll leave that bit extra out on the pitch too

Not that I'm an expert but I believe the link with Luke Thomas is because Warburtons daughter works for the Wasserman agency and Moyes's son used to (which Thomas is a client of)
Ten Hag is now learning how difficult it is to manage United. Sit down talks with Ronaldo with, it appears, Ferguson in or around the room at Carrington.

Another CM to replace Kral and another forward/winger to replace Yarmo
(Sarr or Dennis on loan with option to buy???)

Whether I am being petty, or not, I take pleasure from this
Pass it on.
