Although I'm not against Palace beating Arsenal in general, I'd prefer Arsenal to finish 4th rather than Spurs or Man Utd, so I'm not against a second half comeback.
I know we tend to stay away from overtly political stuff here, but I feel the need to express how heartbreaking it is to witness (admittedly from a very safe distance) what's happening in Ukraine atm, and the fact that, however the conflict is resolved, the people responsible for such atrocities are unlikely ever to be brought to justice (thanks to the veto Russia has in the UN) nor reparations for such an imperialistic war will ever be paid.
The human cost for the people of Ukraine is horrendous, and the economic cost will be borne for many years or even decades to come. Putin is a throwback to a different era, and it's an absolute disgrace that it seems likely that little will be done to punish him and the country he represents for the atrocities that have been committed in his name.
I understand if mods want to delete this post, but it sickens me day after day to live through a period when one man's outdated and deluded desire for power is causing such suffering to innocent people in an independent and democratic country.
It is heart breaking, as it was to see in Syria and Iraq, It's always the innocent people simply trying to live their lives and raise their families that pay for political games of leaders. I read that Putin's own popularity at home is growing, which just shows how information management is everything.
Although on a completely different scale to Ukraine our own country is falling apart like I have never seen it before. This Johnson Govt is the worst I have ever witnessed and they have sent the country back decades. This was also information management. How leave voters were convinced that any rational argument regard the cost of brexit should be seen as project fear was unbelievable. I will predict rioting this summer in the UK.
Ukraine posed no real threat to Russia so the invasion seems especially appalling, egregious and without any justification whatsoever.
I get that states do not like to officially admit to desiring “regime change” but with the recent coverage of what appears to be true atrocities that have been carried out, I am struggling to see exactly how Russia gets back to being an accepted player and trading partner on the world stage whilst the current regime are still in charge.
FWIW, I don’t think we ever have an issue with political posts or threads, we just don’t like the dissent into personal argument that can follow (anyone remember the threads about Brexit and Trump in 2016!?).
I have lots of thoughts about the Ukraine war (all of them are anti the war and thinking Putin is an abomination, btw) but I don’t really know how to articulate them properly. I’ve been trying to read and listen to lots of people who understand these things better than I do.
It is truly heartbreaking, the poor woman who had to bury her son herself in the garden of her wrecked house just brought me to tears, and that’s only one of thousands of similar stories. The sheer brutality of it is devastating. The propaganda in Russia that the government is pumping out is a repeat of the nazis in the thirties. We’ve been told for decades that nuclear weapons will save us from war, try telling that to that poor woman.
Hopefully the more intelligent in Russia knew the moment twitter and facebook were shut down and the independent broadcasters went off air that a propaganda war was afoot.
I see Johnson want's to sell Channel four now, which some see as revenge for not towing his party line, he constantly uses threats towards the BBC to apply pressure also, which seems to work.
Together with his threats to public protest he is certainly testing our tolerance for the Putin playbook.
Back in November Nadine Dorries told the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee that Channel 4 should be privatised rather than funded by the tax payer
Fellow Tory MP Damian Green (ex BBC, Channel 4 and Times journalist) had to explain to her that Channel 4 was not funded by the tax payer, its self funded by advertising and other commercial ventures
Now Dorries has said that Channel 4 should be privatised so it can compete against Netflix and Amazon
Channel 4 already makes money selling programmes to Netflix, etc.
Nuffink to do with football, but just thought I'd share a nice thing. Many years ago, after I moved to Greece, I was approached by an English woman who had married a Greek man, and they had 2 kids. She was keen that her children should grow up bilingual, and didn't want to go down the 'foreign language' route. Options here on this little island were limited, and when she heard about new teachers ( proper English teachers) moving here, she tracked me down and launched a full scale assault on me, until I agreed to take on her 7 year old daughter.
Bear in mind I'm a secondary teacher - I expect my kids to read and write and know the alphabet before I'm let loose on them. This kid knew a few letters of the alphabet but that's all. I had no Idea how to teach phonics and all the rest of it.
Anyway, I agreed, and I and the small cheerful child embarked on a learning journey together.
After 10 years of hard work, she got her English GCSE in 2017. And today was her graduation - she graduated as a primary school teacher, and will keep the good work going for another generation. :-)

A real pleasure to read something positive and heartwarming Mrs Grey. Thank you!
It’s really a no win situation literally tonight. An English team losing in Europe, as I am pro England when it comes to European competitions, even the North London duo & the red half of Manchester! Do I want the anti football Burnley play to enable them to stay up or would it be amusing for Everton to go down? 🤔

Should have left her in the jungle...
Is self funding.
Makes a profit.
Govt wants to sell it so that it can thrive and flourish.
How altruistic.
First time ever for this shower of self-serving, meretricious, shallow and thoroughly disgraceful lot.
So fitting…come on you Clarets…( and not the Irons in claret and blue )

Also Lampard looked like he was going to cry when interviewed on SKY.
My poor Toffee supporting friend. He's very nice and is always complimentary about West Ham ( loves Moyes).
