True story, my English teacher saw me reading James Clavells “Shogon” at lunchtime, now admittedly that is a proper book for a 13 year old but on the back of that, she invited me to an after school O Level English Lit course she was running on her own time (it was not a subject available at my secondary modern school).
That course enabled me to secure 4 O,levels which was pretty much the minimum level required to have a reasonable chance of an interview at any financial institution, now from there I feel that I have worked hard and done pretty well, but it is no stretch of my imagination to realize that my chance to better myself was due in no small part to Mrs Brown.
She was of age back then and I doubt she is still with us, I have never been able to thank her personally but I truthfully and earnestly think of her and thank her for seeing something in me.
Back in November Nadine Dorries told the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee that Channel 4 should be privatised rather than funded by the tax payer
Fellow Tory MP Damian Green (ex BBC, Channel 4 and Times journalist) had to explain to her that Channel 4 was not funded by the tax payer, its self funded by advertising and other commercial ventures
Now Dorries has said that Channel 4 should be privatised so it can compete against Netflix and Amazon
Channel 4 already makes money selling programmes to Netflix, etc.
Just listened to Tony Carr being interviewed by Adrian Chiles on Five Live. Very interesting especially from a West Ham perspective. Might be on BBC Sounds if you’re interested.

So do I and would never buy it. But IF true then it should be printed and shows the hypocrisy of having money, regardless of being a silver spooned Tory or a working class hero. Money , to some, breeds greed. Very disappointing if true.
Yes, but you just know the sun have been absolutely searching for an opportunity to take a shot at Rashford. And it’s also no accident that, of all the thousands of pictures of Rashford, they’ve picked one of him protesting for Black Lives Matter.
That's a fair point about the photo, I honesty never notiiced that,it never enteted my head. Dreadful to try and even bring that into context with what they're " reporting." It has nothing to do with the story and it's typical of their sensationalism. The Sun are scum and like most people I see them for what they are. I'm just very disappointed if the story is true and IF it is then it should be reported , no matter what the paper is. You can't preach with one hand yet Rob with the other, no matter who you are.
Neither was Jimmy Carr but he got torn apart, even In government speeches. Therefore neither is Rushi Sunaks wife.It doesn't make it right and they're not morally campaigning for children's rights and gaining MBE's on one hand while robbing them with the other.I had respect for the guy but (IF TRUE) then he's no better than the others and IMO as just a bigger hypocrite. Perhaps I believed he wanted to do well for society. Seems he wants everyone else to pay for it except himself. If that's ok in some people's eyes then fair enough. It's wrong in mine, no matter who you are. You earn, you pay your wack.We have to. You can't give the public face of being a once starving council kid, yet not pay your dues. It's wrong in my eyes, if some think it's ok then fair enough. Again, it's reported, so who knows but if true ,then he's as bad as any other non tax paying sleezebag.
How do you feel about people who bought property during the stamp duty land tax holiday? Do you think they should have waited to buy until they could pay the full rate?

I feel like that’s fairly different, personally. That was a temporary change in law for everyone buying property. The nondom status to avoid tax on international earnings and the low salary compensated for by directors loans are things that are really going to be exploited by the very rich (with a small number of exceptions, I’m sure).
On a lighter note...... we've been thinking about getting a dog for the last two years. We're both at home virtually all the time and live in a market town surrounded by country side. I fancy a Hungarian Vizsla. Does any one out there have one? They seem loving dogs, I'm after a bit of insite.
For me, the issue is the govt making rules that can benefit certain categories of people, not that those people then play the rules.
Not one single person pays more tax than they need to.
Separately from the general debate, a quick Google suggests that the Rashford story has been given a negative spin by glossing over some pertinent information. I don't really understand it all ( dont have the energy to). But I'm sure the Sun isn't being balanced or fair in their reporting. So perhaps there's more to this story than meets the eye.

My brother has a Vizsla. He's still young, only a year or so old, but a handful. Not in terms of behaviour, but he's strong and boisterous.
That said, I'm not sure if it's a breed thing or a 'him' thing.
It is the responsibility of the govt to pass and enforce suitable laws, the individual then has the responsibility to abide by them. This idea that Rishi Sunak's wife or Marcus Rashford should pay more than necessary by law is just using a stick to hit the wrong person. Hit the Govt that allows rules which allow wealthy people to legally avoid taxation.
How about the individual pays personal tax according to his place of residence and a business pays tax on the money generated within the country that the money is generated.
How about each individual pays the same amount of tax on all salary and dividends.
How about directors pay tax on loans from their companies and claim it back once it is paid back.

If it’s true that Rashford has dodged tax legally, then he absolutely goes down in my estimations.
