Demarai Gray joined Everton yesterday after less than 6 months and just 12 appearances (6 starts) with Bayer Leverkusen
  • McTominay and Fred seem to have been the preferred central midfield pairing last season but Matic and van de Beek also played there so Man U aren't in desperate need for a replacement for Pogba.

Think that even more highlights why they'd go for a more advanced midfielders

All of those you listed, while maybe not all naturally defensive midfielders, are all pretty solid/disciplined and defensively minded players leaving Fernandes the only adventurous of 5 of their CM options
  • Still discussing how much we might accept for our players but still no one coming in!

Sulli needs his interest payments. Money don't grow on trees you know 😁

  • Just going to pretend this is a new signing.

Hope this fella isn't just the new Fellaini. Looks like a bit of a lamppost, but may chip in with a few goals.

An Al-Hilal Twitter account has just stated they have withdrawn their interest in Pereira & he will move to West Ham United in the next few days for a deal worth €18m. 🤔

Saw that, but not sure that's it's a club account?
  • Rehashed from unattributed rumours in Football Insider.

I'm bookmarking that article (the original) as an excellent resource for teaching the use of the passive voice :-)
  • Hopefully it is a load of old tosh and we can look forward to the spending spree to start shortly.
  • Rubbish reports like this can only help in persuading Declan that his future lies elsewhere. He sees Chelsea, Man U etc splashing out multi millions while Moyes, who convinced him of his future plans, having his hands tied behind his back.
  • That ones copying a report in the Telegraph. Do they actually generate any original content or just copy everybody else's homework? ;)

www.hammers.news aka Damien Charles Lucas and Antony Martin simply regurgitate stories from other sources

Lucas boasts he has been a season ticket holder for 30 years despite only being in his late 30s and has worked for local press in the Bucks/Beds/Herts area since he graduated from the University of Buckingham.

Martin claims he is a former professional golfer, according to Golf WRX website he moved to Orlando in 2003, played in several "mini-tours" then returned to the UK and specialises in golf reporting. His twitter account is antonymartin84 so I guess he's also in his late 30s

Better to follow the links on their website to the original source material
  • Another negative article about the owners trying to get more people on their back without any proof or sources

And some fans will lap it up
  • “Patience is a virtue” they say. They also say “action speaks louder than words”. Keep hearing about lots of clubs having not done any “real transfers” yet but that number is reducing by the day. I am starting to worry we are actually in a worse financial position than I realised as we are 3 weeks away from the start of the season with no one signed who realistically could be in the first X1?
  • I don't see why we would be in a worse financial position than any other club, they've all lost revenue playing to empty stands and as tenants we don't have to pay to maintain an empty stadium.

I'm going to trust Ex on this one, Moyes is running the show, he will only sign players he feels are up to the standard and only at a price he thinks is appropriate.
  • ASLEF, 👍. They are also spending money, in some cases a large amount so over to you Mr Moyes. If he waits too long pontificating we won’t get the quality or number of players required.
  • Fortune, I think you might mean procrastinating ;)
  • Bubbles, you are right. I’ve started to have trouble recently with using the right worms. 😁
  • Fortune, I think you might mean procrastinating ;)

    procrastinating
    Excellent word
  • Procrastination is the thief of time...... so they say

    Yeah, but…

There's always time for that tomorrow. 😉
  • I must protest about these poor jokes..... well, maybe later
  • I’m glad the word procrastinate has been discussed and the proper meaning resolved.
For years I thought it was some kind of professional crab or lobster.

    Not unlike this forum =)

I think when you look at our fully fit front 5:

    GK
    Coufal - CB - Ogbonna - LB
    Rice - Souček
    Bowen - Benrahma - Fornals
    Antonio

I think we’d all agree that it’s pretty hard to improve on those front five players. Not many on here would drop any of those if fully fit, so we have a pretty good team on paper. Jesse was good at giving us alternatives to Bowen & Benrahma, with a slightly more explosive style, but I don’t think anybody would moan about those two starting a game.

I think when you look at the overall side, there is room for strengthening the first team at GK (to improve on Randolph & be Fabs long term successor), CB (to play with Ogbonna & cover for him when necessary) & LB (a longer term successor to Cresswell). But midfield & striker wise, we are looking for competition more than replacements. Loans would be a good shout, with the main money being spent on the back five.

I expect Moyes will make another bid for Tarkowski. He likes him, we bid over £25m last summer, we signed Dawson as an alternative, it’s a year on & his price is down further with only a year left on his deal. Another £20m offer may get him.
  • I don't think we're bidding, or spending, £20m on anyone this summer. Ex's latest round-up has us trying to loan Areola from a team that wants to sell, trying to loan Pereira with an option, and if that doesn't work out we'll look at Barkley or Oxlade-Chamberlain... on loan.

Whether it's Moyes' due diligence, or Sullivan's desire to loan and not buy, I can't see any deals happening before the season starts, and those that get done in the final week of the window will be loans and frees.

I'm 100% confident that we'll end up with Maksimovic (free) ahead of Tarkowski or Celeta-Car at centre back.

In other news, Scottish media are reporting that we're signing 20-year-old 'keeper Brian Kinnear, who left Rangers earlier in the summer.
