So the only signing we've made is a player that we were financially committed to buying for staying up last season.
If that clause didn't exist, and Soucek was purely a loan deal and he went back to Slavia Prague in July, we wouldn't have signed anyone.
How anyone can defend the board is beyond me (although Big Sam was on Talksport doing just that earlier, so he must be lining up the job when Moyes is sacked in November).

According to this summary of the Allardyce interview, he was 'piling on' and definitely not defending them.

Well obviously.
The point being that a club that finished 16th having spent two-thirds of the season fighting relegation has failed to strengthen its squad. The only signing was one that the board couldn't get out of. That to me is indefensible.

Didn't we sign the young lad released by Wimbledon ?

“We’ve looked into reports that West Ham had made a loan approach for Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard, but we’ve been told that deal is highly unlikely. The Saints would not entertain Vestergaard leaving on loan.
“As we get closer and closer to the transfer deadline, West Ham will be looking to do deals, but it is going to be difficult.”

Honestly, I think Troy Deeney might not be bad. I know a lot of people don't like him based on the past but I've seen quite a lot of interviews with him recently and he's not that bad - someone dealing with things but he is dealing with them.

He's an effective striker.
Sturridge barely played for Trabzon, so...
Deeney has been left out of the Watford squad because he's been injured, he will be available this weekend and has been training on his own but he took time off from his rehabilitation to slag off Haller's lack of goals last season in the Sun earlier this month.
I know 18 days is a long time in past so I'm sure it wouldn't lead to any bad feeling in the dressing room.
Sturridge missed a lot of games through injury and lack of fitness, he was only available for 14 out of 23 games Trabzonspor played while he was with them, 11 appearances with 7 starts and scored 4.
He was shocking in a game recently. I watched it with my neighbour who is a Chelsea fan. Was The Brighton game I think. Not saying he's always bad but in this particular game he had no interest in working for the team.

Undoubtedly a great player when he's fit but...
