  • I think Eze would've been a nice replacement for Lanzini, who might himself need to change to refresh himself. I think he could have been a good signing to reinvigorate the team so it's a shame that we're missing out (whatever the reason). Hopefully Moyes can get Lanzini back to normal.

I don't really like the "we shouldn't be beaten by Palace stuff", we're not really any better than them, though maybe we expect to be because of the stadium move.

I do think we have a good enough team to get mid table, they just need to perform better and that means the manager needs to coach them into performing like some of them have in the past and to set us up tactically to get the best out of players like Haller. I also really want to see Masuaku play on the wing.

I still want to see a left back though.
  • To be honest, Henry, Duffy and someone like Tammy Abraham (he's not getting a kick all the time Werner is fit) on loan would be enough for me.

Duffy is leaving Brighton because he's stuck on the bench and wherever he ends up he going to want guarantees that he's going to be a starter. He won't want to come here if the thinks he'll just be swapping one bench for another.
  • If only somebody could teach Masuaku to defend he would be a wonderful attacking left back.

If someone could teach me to defend, and to attack, so would I be =)
  • Watching the game yesterday. I still don't think Arthur is a very good football player.

But there is nothing to say that Lanzini is going anywhere. There is no way we can afford another player of that mould. Lanzini goes then yes I agree but Eze and QPR are not going to wait around for ever.

And that's why I said in an ideal world. If we weren't reliant on someone paying for our out-of-form players first, we could sign Eze and then either sell or maybe even loan Lanzini to see if he can get his form back. But because we're so hard up and have to sell to buy, we're running the risk of missing out on players. I completely agree that QPR and Eze won't hang around in the hope that we scrape enough money together, and nor should they.

Of course and I agree with you OCS. But then again even if Lanzini went I'd rather the club spent the money elsewhere. I still like to think with the players we have someone must be able to play the number 10 role. Our left back situation on the other hand is abysmal. It's obvious Cresswell gets targeted when we play against teams with pacey wingers.
Don't get me wrong I'd love our club to take a risk on an exciting player like Eze. I'm just trying to be realistic. In my opinion our owners are the absolute pits and I'd be amazed if they spent any money when they have an abundance of excuses not to.
  • Well, we did take a risk on an exciting player like Eze in January, when we signed Bowen.

So I’m inclined to think we just didn’t want him that much.
  • I don't feel we need a centre back because we have Oggi and Diop as first paring with Baubena as back up, but most importantly Rice can drop in easily any time needed.

We need a full back, a better second Keeper in case Fab gets injured or age catches up and a goal scorer for when Antonio gets injured, as he will at some point. We sold two strikers who were bought to be a solid back up striker and were not, letting them go does not remove the need for that within the squad it just means they were not the player. In my view we need find one.

Depends how ITK you believe Ex to actually be. He's without doubt the most accurate West Ham ITK (that's not to say he's always right) and has stated that Moyes definitely wants Eze. Now whether the board want him at the £20m or so that QPR want is another matter.

  • But Lanzini isn't the same player as he was before the injury, and never will be. He's been poor for a while now and for a No10 he's not been producing goals or assists (although granted he scored against Wycombe yesterday).

I remember last summer (and possibly the summer before?) that people were saying Antonio was a spent force and needed replacing. I think we are very quick to write off players after a dip in form, and I personally think that Lanzini still has time to come back. If he has another season like this one then I will agree that he's done, but I still strongly believe that he can manage to regain his pre-injury form.

I think Randolph should be seen as back up enough for Fab?

I agree about needing a backup striker, and I reckon we'll bring in a loanee at the end of the window. There are plenty of good strikers warming benches around Europe. There must be a journalist preparing a Michy Batshuayi to West Ham article as we speak

I don't really know anything about Ex. Seems like he's right often enough, based on what people post on here. I'm just saying maybe we didn't want him as much as Palace. Maybe Moyes wanted him for £10m, considering we aren't desperate in that position.

I think what I find frustrating is that (this isn't aimed at you or anyone on this site, really) when we don't sign a particular player, a lot of people who don't like the board blame the board for not signing them. Which I find irritating, because nobody knows whether we wanted him, how much we wanted him, whether we offered and the player rejected us etc.

I don't particularly like the board. But they have done okay with backing us in the last few years in the transfer market, and I don't think they're due criticism every time a player we *might* have been looking at goes somewhere else.
  • I agree jorderz, but I also get it as there are some players that sound like they make a lot of sense and then you are naturally disappointed...and given the board are involved in at least some capacity whether its directly identifying players or just fronting up the cash, they are easy targets

I agree with the consensus. I would've liked to get Eze, as he ticks a lot of boxes, and think he would've been a good option instead of Anderson/Lanzini

But those 2 are still here so it doesnt make any sense...especially with Fornals and Diangana who wont be happy being on the bench and Bowen already a guaranteed starter

If we can get one (or both) of Lanzini or Anderson playing as good as we know they can be, we wont be missing out

It will be very interesting to see whether Moyes can coach a few of our players , who have under performed recently, to raise their standards back to where they once were. Anderson and Lanzini need decent man management. If they can be the players they once were then that will be great and I'll be happy with that. If not then it's time to move at least one of them on.
  • Just remembered the third kit is launched on Friday.

Last season we announced Haller via the third kit release video.

He's already back, on the bench at Ipswich
  • I know but he need an official welcome back
  • Chilwell to Chelsea confirmed for £50m.

One of Alonso and Emerson available, you'd imagine. Sullivan loan offer incoming I reckon.

    With or without clowns?

Wouldn't mind Alonso on loan or a perm deal
  • But he can't defend, that's why Chelsea are outing him.
  • Well he will fit right in then
  • If people think Cresswell is a liability against pace then Alonso is not the answer. He was partially responsible for our beating Chelsea last month.
  • Chilwell joining fellow Foxes Danny Drinkwater and N'Golo Kante at Chelsea continues a model of selling one of their 'stars' every year since Kante left for Chelsea in 2016.

Drinkwater followed him to west London in 2017, Riyad Mahrez went to Manchester City in 2018 and Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019.

It balances the books and allows reinvestment for Leicester - on what is not a bad return at all. Those five players cost a total £24.1m. Leicester sold them collectively for £250m over four years - and still finished above Arsenal and Tottenham last season. Shrewd.

Not bad work from Leicester, tbh
  • Guardian reporting that Valladolid have had a bid for Roberto accepted.

Imagine if we actually got money for him.
  • Even though they sell top players, Leicester and their owners appear to have, and be able to execute, a clear vision and strategy to continue to progress and build (even managing to not sell their ground to boot).

Basically all the things that our owners don’t do.
