This is really unbelievable isn’t it. I wasn’t one of the “GSB out brigade” but if Sullivan lets David Moyes slip from his grasp then I will certainly be vocal in calling for Sullivan to go. He should be giving Moyes whatever he wants in the contract after all it couldn’t be anymore than what Pellegrini got and who achieved absolutely nothing.
I don't think Sullivan would be able to do much about it and his reason for going would be beyond more pay and demands in general. I actually don't think he is going and it would be a risk for him if he did. I think we forget that Moyes has had a few jobs since leaving Everton and this is the only one in which he has exceeded expectations, none of the others worked out well.
I want to say first I think he has done a great job as not only have we finished in 6th but the morale and team spirit seems as best as I can remember it for a long while. He has also spent money well, all things a manager needs to ensure. However if wanting to play devils advocate a little. This year he has had the first world class player we have had in the side for a long while in Declan Rice. It is not inconceivable that without Rice we would have ended up a respectable12th. We saw how our push for Champions League faltered when he got injured. We always say one player doesn't make a team but in some cases that player can make a big difference. Villa without Grielish, Liverpool without Van Diijk, Palace without Saha and West Ham without Rice are all quite different teams. My point is had we finished 12th I think we would be giving him credit but not necessarily thinking he is irreplaceable. If we could have only one of Rice or Moyes sign a new contract I know who I would choose. I imagine he is wanting assurances that Rice won't be sold, I hope so.
I am a sometimes an optimist and I think the club are going to keep Moyes and Rice (at least for one more year, and I think we will spend a reasonable amount and have a proper go.
According to this, Moyes has been given permission to restructure the entire recruitment at the club, which will see various scouts hired, as well as a director of football (wonder if that will be Irvine).
I genuinely did not think I would feel such relief at David Moyes signing on as our manager, when he was appointed back when Pelle got the boot.
Never had an appointment that I could not help but feel uninspired by, had the complete opposite impact. He is perfect for our club & if ever there was a case of right manager for the right club & it being a perfect match, this is it.
I really hope, when we do hit a rough patch, we all keep our nerve & allow Moyes to get us out of it instead of knee-jerk decisions. I feel if he is here for the next 3 years we will be an established top half Premier League club.
He received warm applause from the Everton fans yesterday. The West Ham players and staff entered and left the pitch in the corner by the away fans but the home stand applauded him on and off the pitch too. Nice touch.
I don't think there is enough mention of the way that Moyes accepts defeat with grace, often just stating that we did enough for a point, or that the opponents were worthy winners. Contrast that with Rafa yesterday, saying the corner that led to the goal should have been a free-kick to them, in other words blaming the referee/assistant for a poor decision. Moyes exudes class IMO.

Yeah we were in that corner and it was great to see the Everton fans doing that. Hats off etc.
I find it interesting how we have evolved this season. Last season our play was very much ‘sit back, pinch possession & break at pace & with direct play’ & this was done through Antonio, Benrahma, Bowen & Lingard. We had very little possession (around 40% we averaged).
This season our play has evolved. We have had more possession in 5/8 games & have been pushing 60% possession in a couple. We seem to look to control & dictate games more this season & this goes back to something I felt last season, that our all round performances were better before Lingard came in.
Remember when David Moyes was appointed & he said the iconic ‘winning, it’s what I do’. He was laughed at by most.
He currently has his highest win percentage as a manager, here (48%), but it’s even higher if you only include it from after lockdown 1 (53%).
I think people laughed because his win percentage at his previous two clubs were 29% and 19% respectively, which suggested winning certainly wasn't what he was doing.
So I can understand why people were sceptical about that statement, but at Preston and Everton, where he had time to build a squad and install an identity, he did very well. Hopefully now he's been given time here he can carry on at his current rate.
It's really nice when you have a manager who is so easy to like as a person, we have had a few over the years with of course the late great John Lyall at the top of that particular list, along with the likes of Billy Bonds, Zola, Slav and even Harry in the early years. Moyes enters that list for me.
It's also a mark of just how honest Moyes is that he is able to recognise publicly the part Rice plays in our overall success. I know it's only what everyone knows anyhow but very honest of Moyes. If he does leave at the end of the year it's another Rooney moment for Moyes. It must have really hurt him to lose Rooney knowing he was as irreplaceable as Rice will now be to us.
I think after what happened to him at Man. U and Sunderland he’s shown a great deal of self belief to come back as strong as he has. His confidence must’ve taken a kicking when he was out of work and it was looking like he was finished. Football however has got a nasty way of building you up and knocking you down, he’ll know that he’s in a purple patch at the moment and he won’t take it for granted.
I just watched the interview with him on the club site ( we've got a great club) and find him very likeable. Low key, modest, crediting his staff for their work, praising the players. He seems to be honest and realistic, wanting to aim high but not in any way a sense of entitlement.

David Moyes to sign new 3 year deal with West Ham, despite Everton interest.

That is a very positive article.

An opinion piece in the Grauniad today. I found it interesting, and not just in the context of Moyes but football opinions generally.
