You won't stop racism on social media until companies like Twitter force people to tell them who they are. Once people have to own what they write they'll be less inclined to write it.
It’s not going to go away overnight, but if people choose to actively read, learn, listen, whatever and take action to educate those around them whenever there is an opportunity to, then it changes.
As for real life, lots of different people from lots of different races don't like each other. I'm not sure how that's going to stop or be stopped.
I do recognise that changing hearts and minds is very difficult.
But I think we should expect that people hold these vile opinions in private. Not that they feel it's ok to express them openly.
As you say, part of it is that they can do so anonymously. I believe that if the anonymity was removed, these racists wouldn't have the courage of their convictions.
This is the only "social" type site I get involved with ( apart from WhatsApp) , so I haven't seen the racist post but I innocently thought the 70's were behind us.
Think I’ve mentioned on here before in 1963 my uncle Harry along with two others formed a football team called Clifton all whites, named because one of the wives made the kit out of white bed sheets, in the 90’s they were told they had to change the name to Clifton United because all whites was deemed racist, they refused saying they had support from black players that had gone on to play for league teams, viv Anderson, Chris and Dave fairclough, Pedro Richards, Tristram Benjamin, Jermaine jenas and Michael Johnson to name but a few? I agree with all racism should play no part in sport or everyday life and feel sometimes people mess up trying to prove they arnt racist,

This is a really basic, old form of racism though. "I don't want to see you." Nothing more than the colour of skin making them angry. Racism has been here but I think it's been a while since people have felt so happy to air this blatant form of it.
Avoiding social media is fine and good for lots of reasons, but that doesn’t mean that racism and other forms of bigotry and hate don’t exist. It’s not just a social media problem, social media just shines a light on it.
Preston... and people like me who don't like different people from different races who don't like each other I've worked in ten different countries, and there was never any problem at work. It's the social aspect that muck-stirrers can use for their own purposes.
Well Jamie’s dad pat started Clifton all whites with my uncle Harry and Keith Elliot, I was born in London but raised in west bridgford down the road from radcliffes ground and I was store manager at gamston Morrison’s, small world
My only recollection of that school was when first moved to Nottingham I went to fairham comp in Clifton and played dayncourt at cricket and after the game our teacher shut the mini bus door on my thumb and broke it, we still talk about it to this day when we meet at the weekly quiz in the local
