Answered my own question, thanks to someone who knows about this stuff and the recent Moore report pages 55/56

The club wasn’t going to buy the stadium with the first bid process, they were going to lease it for 150 years a joint venture with us putting in £20m, Newham £40m and government grant of £35m as the costs to do the conversion were set at £95m (how wrong was that!)

We’d pay $100k a year rent (unless we finished higher than 10th then it went up) and we’d have to pay for all the running costs at the stadium but would get the naming rights and all the food/drink

So, we were never going to own it. It was just a different deal. One that I was more in favour with at the start because we controlled the stadium.

But 'owning' the stadium would make the club more valuable and even a more desirable proposition. By taking payday loans and overdrafts they have shown they are not afraid to borrow external money.

Well that’s one way of looking at it! It also means by not owning it they didn’t have to find or secure the money themselves, this way the value of the club goes up and they’ve put no more in
  • The value of the club doesn't go up as much though, on account of it doesn't have that big asset.
  • It’s a business fair and square we love it with a passion I know, but Sullivan did say he’s not prepared to blow his kids inheritance on him and I don’t blame him either!!

  • Interestingly regarding interest on loans it was reported during the week when writing about a possible Newcastle take over that even Mike Ashley doesn't charge interest on loans made to the club out of his own pocket, and to find a more maligned owner would be difficult. Apparently his loans total £129m and are all interest free.
  • The way it should be
  • Let's be honest, the Geordies hate Ashley enough already, if he charged interest on his loans they'd be crowds storming up Bigg Market with pitchforks and torches (in shirts, no jackets).
  • Oh, I'm pretty sure some of them would be topless ASLEF.
  • Does Ashley draw a wage....
  • I don't think so, but the catering bills are eye-watering...

If he gets his £350m, he would be turning a profit of over £100m, so not too shabby.

Separately, he seems to have got his trotters in a lovely property deal that will ensure Newcastle can never increase the ground capacity:

  • That sounds pretty shocking
  • So not only is he not investing he is now actively working against his own club...

    Brilliant... ;lol
  • trust me imo every owner out there is doing it for something in return...
  • I’m going to put it out there that it’s at an all time low right now.....

As for commenting like that on another clubs player, well DS has really done it again hasn’t he?

Before anyone questions the validity of what was said checkout Marshyboy26 tweets on Twitter, he was there and knows what was said

Of course you don’t have to believe it, you could just say it’s twitter, doesn’t count and dismiss it

    ;ok
  • Sully walked off and left Gold to answer questions, lovely.

I actually have way more respect for Mr Gold, Sully is the real problem in all this
  • Vote of no confidence from me ages ago and mean the lot of them
  • Tbf if someone had asked Gold about Shelvey, it would have confused him - “what, you mean that snooker player from Leicester??...”
  • Thing is twist you said it lining there own pockets they will have no guilt it’s a business first in my eyes and a chance to see a club he supports from a better seat, just sooner they be honest than lie to try appease us, thing is they won’t pull the cotton wool over my eyes again

**original post was deleted for "swearing"**

Gold is the lesser of 2 evils, but i don't buy his 'innocent old man' front.
I believe he's a hammer but he knew exactly what he was doing by moving into the new stadium, benefiting himself and his own wealth. Stitching* the fans over at the same time. I just hope deep down he feels guilty about it.

    Slizzy

Why do you hold our owners to a higher standard than our supporters?

Angry fans go shouting at them at the end of the game.

    Sully engages with them.

Then what he says is used as another stick to beat him with.

Fans can do and say what they like, but the owners have to behave as if they were having tea with the Bishop of London?

He's flat denied the spin that 'we can't sign anyone' had anything to do with money.

As to Shelvey, imo he got that spot on.

If people choose to broadcast private conversations all over soshallow meejah, that's their business.

I hope, in future that Sully simply ignores any fans who try to talk to him.

That will be right, won't it?
  • Twist I know someone who had a sit down with him fairly recently, he wasn’t particularly complimentary about the Sully sons, plus he said the LLDC had moved the goal posts on some of the things at the LS, trouble is, when you rent you’re not always in control, especially when you only pay 2.5m a year even though it seems like the deal of the century, it can harm you short term
  • I think they need employ some proper PR and offer some figures to the fans to attempt to win trust as that is what is sorely lacking at present. I am sure some brains brighter than mine could work it out from what is in freedom if information and club accounts but if they put together a report on the club site with figures easily understood it may help, or condemn them but at least there would be no guessing.

Financial fair play - How near or far are we from our limits before breaking these rules? Are we at the limit we can spend or the limit they are willing to invest?

What are our current revenue and outgoings etc, taking into account the sky money, wages, stadium hire etc.

Why as self confessed fans have they taken such high rates of interest from a club in debt?

Their issue is that they may soon find themselves public enemy number one and be hounded out if they do not begin to respect the need for better PR. I am not convinced they are the villains made out to be nor the good guy fans who are going to see us right. More information and sincere public statements which can be measured would help.

I am not sure I think Sully has been a victim of having a private conversation made public with the Shelvy comment as he actually says all that stuff on the record as well as Snodgrass and Fonte know all too well.
  • Sully should not have been drawn into any comment on shelvey at all. It is not acceptable IMO. He should have swerved the question when asked, or said “I cannot comment on players from other teams”. All it has done is to allow another toxic situation brew.
  • He’s drawn comments on Fonte, Snodgrass, Shelvey, Austin.....

That is off the top of my head, the list is growing, the geezer has zero class imo
  • edited January 2018
Said it before. Totally agree, lacks class.
  • The owners have their faults but they do try to engage with us and I believe they have the clubs best interest at heart. However they do not have the money that other owners have and face a lot of criticism because of it. Some 'fans' and so called reporters also like to twist what is said or put their own spin on it (or even make it up!!). Some will find every opportunity to have a dig at the owners whether they deserve it or not. Good to see them much quieter on transfers this time; personally I will judge their success at the end of the month, not by opinions of journalists or others who have a bias of some kind. We will all have our own opinions on the success or otherwise of the transfer window lets just have a constructive discussion and not keep knocking the owners at every opportunity; I suspect they will be here for a long time.

Barney agree with some parts but when you hear them make crass comments fans are going to react I’ve lost patience with them and want them out before they damage our club any further yes they did save us but at what cost end of for me
  • I think sadly one of the main problems is that they have lost all goodwill and trust from so many at present and this at times like yesterday prompts an almost irrational reaction. I am not sure if the anger expressed today at the board, and there is a lot of it, would have been so great had we won yesterday and it's that which I mean by irrational, because of a sense of betrayal for some and the way they communicate they become the target at any setback.

For me yesterdays result had little to do with the board, if that was our first team I would say certainly it does and they should hit the door now, but it was far from it, that team was played possibly due to Moyes wanting to focus on premiership survival (he is the manager, his call) and injuries, I think without the injuries he still wouldn't necessarily have played the big guns with Palace on Tuesday. What it wasn't due to however was the board not supplying a fit for purpose Premiership side. We had Adrian, Reid, Kouyate, Lanzini, Noble, Arnie, Carroll, Ayew and Antonio out and for me a team with them in beats Wigan 9 matches out of 10. Our team I feel is also the best stocked regard quality compared to all teams below us who are in this relegation scrap and so I wouldn't swap our players for any of those around us.

So we have a Premiership standard team in my view, but one that needs reinforcing for a battle to avoid relegation and that is their job, they have however just signed an on paper high quality player from Inter, do they need do more? yes, and if they do not sign any and it's because they were offered players we need but refused to meet prices or simply refused, then they are to blame, if however it's a case of we cannot do a deal because who we want doesn't want to come then that's how it is in January and we may have to ride our luck and hope Moyes can lead the troops like a leader should.

So this is why I think they are getting a hard ride at present, but that doesn't mean they don't have questions to answer. They mentioned next level I have heard stated many times but our previous two summers have left a lot, and then somewhat to be desired. Is that because you didn't make funds available? or is it FFP? what is your aim, is it to hope we can achieve success at current level of investment so you risk as little as possible of your money or do you anticipate gambling the money that will offer a chance of next level, and lets be clear it will be gambled as Premiership ownership is for people with deep pockets who don't mind losing at times. If you are not gambling with your own money why did we leave the Boleyn as the level at present was achievable there. Why are you taking such amounts of interest on your loans to the club?

So essentially I don't think they are as bad as being painted but I don't trust them either, I would like sincere communication and transparency with regard intention and figures and I feel this will help restore some goodwill which is lacking and causing them to be the target at every setback at present whether rational or not at times. There is disfunction in the relationship between the fans and the board and they need address that before it goes beyond repair.

    c&b

I’d agree with that Moyes will have to work is magic now and then what happens next season is he going to want a contract with these clowns in charge even tho he probably needed us to build his reputation, then who would want to come with all the false promises a second rate manager who probably wouldn’t get a job elsewhere it’s a vicious circle for me
