To be fair his squad was so poor quality before that point though /s

Maybe bfs was right, if he had one of the 'big' teams that spends he could have won the league. I sort of think I could too.

According to transfermarkt, Man City net spend:

    17/18 £120m (thus far) inc. Walker £43m, Silva £42.5m, Ederson £34m, etc.
    16/17 £151m inc. Stones £47m, Sane £42.5m, Brian £27m, Gundogan £23m, etc.
15/16 £124m (pre Pep?) inc. De Bruyne £62m, Sterling £53m, Otamendi £38m etc.

I could go on. Bear in mind these are NET too.

Just noticed 17/18 DOESN'T include Mendy, transfer confimed today £52m!
  • Rumoured that Adrian could be on his way....
  • Chelsea and Man U have spent similar funds. Chelsea have won the league but united haven't. ;hmm
  • Rumoured that Adrian could be on his way....

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO ;nonono
  • From what Ex says the ball is in his (Adrian's) court. We want to keep him and fight for the jersey, he doesn't want to be a back up. I suspect he'll go, if I'm honest. He will know, as we all do, that rightly or wrongly Hart is our No1 for this season.

On a more positive note, Hernandez has been spotted at Heathrow ;wahoo
  • Rumoured that Adrian could be on his way....

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO ;nonono
    'Twas always likely.

I imagine that after being an established number 1 in the Prem, he's not going to take kindly to a demotion. It's probably different when you are at a club competing with the number 2, who you work with every day and have mutual respect etc. When you are dropped because of loss of form, you must feel 'fair enough' and you'll have a chance of getting the jersey back again.

But he's just been permanently downgraded. If I was him, I'd be looking for a move.
  • Just for reference, Twitter quoters:

you can embed a tweet on here, if you first click on the tweet in Twitter, and then, when it shows up in your browser, copy the address that appears in your browser toolbar. (Just did that for you, bbb)
  • Me too, don't blame Adrian at all. But don't think losing both him and Randolph is a significant loss, at least in terms of goalkeeping ability.
  • so whos our back up keeper?
  • Chris Woods ;ok
  • I guess we'll sign another one or promote one of the younger ones?
  • The younger ones are U19 and U17 aren't they? Trott and a new kid. I think we'll have to buy
  • If Adrian goes as well, then it is almost inevitable that whoever we get to replace him will not be as good, or they wouldn't agree to come to be a 'guaranteed' backup.
  • Grey,

A back-up keeper is inevitably not as good, otherwise they wouldn't be happy being a back-up. Like Adrian and Randy wanting to leave as soon as it was clear Hart would be our No. 1.

The problem with our keepers is we had two broadly at the same level, neither of which would be of the quality to help us kick on (I know we finished well in slavs first season, however this was largely to do with the number of goals we scored)

If Adrian goes too, it is likely that we end up with one keeper better than the other with the other being slightly inferior to adrian/randy - personally I think is ok?
  • Does seem like a bit of a gamble by the two D's unless they know something we don't.

Loaning Hart for a year but losing both our contracted keepers with good Prem experience. If Adrian does move on it seems like we have swapped solid depth in that position for higher quality and higher risk.

My hope is that we can persuade Adrian to stay although I would completely understand him leaving.
  • Its a stupid decision as it puts City in the driving seat in negotiations since we would need a keeper. Unless a fee has been agreed to buy him at the end of the loan, really are going to shove an extra 20m on Hart ? stupid long term planning there.
  • Disagree. Even if we didn't sign Hart on loan we'd have needed to replace Randy and Adrian, who are average goalkeepers.

Even if Adrian stays no.2 this year, I'd be unhappy if he was our no.1 again next season, should Hart not sign.
  • This is the concern I had from the start, we was disrupting a stable part of the squad.

The when it become clear there was no buy clause even more the short term nature of this strategy is a worry.

However some people convinced me that there is justification for this approach.

In the end we may only get one season but even if we bought a Brilliant GK we would probably lose him in the summer anyway...
  • Adrian spent half of last season as a no 2 and he is under contract ,if he thinks he should be playing he needs to prove it .
  • I'd rather have a world class goalkeeper for this season alone than two average ones for the next five years.

If Hart leaves next summer, we'll spend the money on somebody else better than Randy and Adrian.
  • Which one, billy?
  • Can't see many better keepers. Unless we carve out a 30m wedge for Butland
  • Randy and Adrian made a lot of gaffes last season. Their combined mistakes probably lost us as many points as any other team's in the league.

Bit of noise on Twitter about Brentford's Bentley. West Ham fan apparently, and only 24 so may be more prepared to be understudy to Hart as part of his development.

I would not blame Adrian for leaving as I would think that anyone with his experience would be looking for a No 1 slot, however, I would also think that a younger keeper would relish the idea of being Harts understudy.

By all accounts, Hart is a good egg and if I was Bilic I would look to manage his expectations and make the mentoring of a capable but inexperienced No 2 as part of the deal.

You have to be careful of keepers, I was at the Bradford City game when Shaka went off injured in the first couple of minutes, a very young Stephen Bywater came off the bench to make his debut, as he ran on you could tell that his chest was pumped and he must have felt 10 feet tall, unfortunately for him, he made a mess of his first cross and looked terrified of the ball for the rest of the game and let in 4 goals.

We ended up winning it 5-4, it was great game and the atmosphere was electric, the crowd knew that Bywater was vulnerable and it was just as clear that the team were determined not to lose that game and I recall Rio in particular going up to Bywater and putting his arms over his shoulder at the end.

The thing is, although he never made the position his own for us when in the premiership, Bywater was a decent keeper and he made a good career for himself in the championship, I wonder if he might have made the grade had he been better protected and prepared for his debut with us.

    Just rambling thoughts

  • A club source said “A medical has been taking place and it is touch and go whether the results come back tonight or tomorrow because blood and heart test tests usually take more than a few hours”

“We would love to have it all completed this evening in order to make an official announcement but if that is not possible, all things equal, we will do so tomorrow”

Medical done. Quotes from claret and hugh article. Announcement tonight or tomorrow.

Adrian's performance in 2015/16 was good enough to get him a call up to the Spanish squad in August
  • I Agree.

I think if we loose Randolph and Adrian because we have loaned Hart for one season it will be poor business.
  • Not sure why Ranfy and Adrian are being dissed. Made a couple of mistakes apiece but what keeper didn't? Loris, Mignolet, Cech, any Citeh keeper made plenty.
