  • But you don't want a buyout figure as someone may meet it and then you are in trouble. With no buyout figure they would have to pay what you want or we don't sell.
  • Herb

    True dat ;ok
  • I think the new contract shows that we won't sell him for any price and he's more than happy to stay here...

    The love story continues...

    ;hug
  • He's signed....5.5 years
  • Has little Jack tweeted it yet?
  • Nothing from Jack for 4 hours, must be doing his homework ;biggrin
  • Apparently £90,000 a week.
  • Where's Rav with his transfer updates when you want him?

    Fax is broken ;ok

    Waiting for the carrier pigeon.
  • Good call Mrs G ;ok
  • SSN confirm Payet has signed new contract ;wahoo
  • It's on the West Ham twitter site
  • And the OS. I'm a little excited COYI
  • I just don't think I understand ;hmm
  • We had him until age 32-33 what have we got him until now? Or may be we have put in a buy out clause in case at age 30 someone wants to pay us 70m for him.

Hoping we haven't made a massive over reaction to some good recent form.
  • I dont think it is an over reaction. Without Payet this season I would guess that we could be a few positions lower in the league. We bought him for a very good price and he is our best current player and in my eyes the best player we have had since Di Canio.

    I am delighted.

    From DS on the OS
Today’s news means Mark Noble, Winston Reid, Diafra Sakho, Aaron Cresswell, James Tomkins, Adrian, James Collins and now Dimi have all signed new long-term contracts in the past year – all confirmation that we want to keep our best players here for as long as possible.

In line with our policy, a few other key players might be similarly rewarded in the next six months, so keep an eye on whufc.com and our social media channels for the big announcements!
    And from Dimi:
"For me it's a big step, an enormous show of faith, particularly from the Chairman [David] Sullivan and from the manager," said the popular No27. "I thank them for that, and I am proud and I'm happy to prolong the adventure with West Ham.
    Showing him the love.
  • Hopefully now he'll get back to form.........

Only kidding, you can see he's trying but you can also see he's struggling being the centre of our creativeness and can imagine he'll be the happiest man to see Lanzini alongside him
  • Payet's Agent did well. Got his client a huge pay rise after only playing a handful of games.
  • His agent did very well. I really hope he is performing at the level he has this season for the best part of that contract but my instinct tells me he will get worked out pretty soon or be regularly taken out by the opposition and we may have reacted with a sense of urgency that was not actually needed 8 months into a five year contract. I believe Sakho's agent did the same last season and that hasn't exactly paid off to date.

It's hard to be too critical or congratulatory without knowing the details of course and I recognise that.
  • We probably reacted urgently because of this bid from China. It meant his agent came to the table and said 'look, he wants to stay, he loves the fans and the club and has no intention of leaving, but, this club are offering mega bucks and so maybe it's worth proposal a new deal with some financial alterations, as I can tell you he would happily sign it'.

The Dave's agreed and were probably thinking along the same lines anyway. I have no issue with the new contract. He is the best player I have seen since supporting the club by a mile and so I don't feel it is too soon or too quick.
  • If we become top 4 side with OS and regular 50k crowds this type of problem will start to ease (although it won't go away as we will simply be in the same checkout aisle as the big boys of Europe)
  • The fact his he's our best player clearly and if we want to compete long term we are gonna have to keep our best players so if hes our top earner it's hard to argue

Top player should mean top earner in reality
  • This is good news.

Shows positive intention by the club.

    ;scarf
  • Perhaps they learnt from Rob Green. He certainly is one of our best players and if he feels that isn'tvalued then his love for the club will start to wane.
On the other hand, if he sees out his contract in the quality we have come to expect then that will certainly be happy times for us fans. And just to imagine how much the youngsters can lern from him. Get Samuelson to train with Payet and Lanzini for a month and who knows.
  • Munich

I don't agree with the Rob Green comparison, he wanted out and nothing the club did would make him change his mind.
  • Payet is a player that fans want to see play , will help us sell tickets next year so will probably pay for the extra wages in ticket sales shirts etc . Real Madrid do it all the time buy players to sell merchandise
  • With Bilic publicly stating every week Payet's our best player, it wouldn't be unreasonable for his advisor's to think ;hmm best player = best wage.
  • Suz, if I remember correctly, though, this 'I want out' period was preceeded by Green giving his all (I reckon we would have gone down sooner without him) without his importance to the club being valued as he'd have liked. He watched as our previous owners splashed dosh like confetty and players like Dyer were earning fortunes. At some point I agree that enough is enough.
