  • I didn’t want him to (still not sure), but I think it speaks a lot about our stature as a club & his as a person if he wants to stay in the Championship.
  • Really good news imo

He's a safe bet and hopefully he can convince some players that have done well unde him to stay
  • Nuno is staying, or is he?

The WHU board says "We held meetings with Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo early this week and are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the Club – as we have to him.

Nuno made it very clear that he is highly motivated for the challenge of guiding West Ham United back to the top flight at the first time of asking. That must be the unquestionable goal for next season.

... A total of 25 points taken from our final 17 Premier League matches equated to 1.47 points per game – a ratio that would have resulted in a seventh-place finish across the full season. Furthermore, we feel the clear improvement in squad mentality and togetherness since January, leading to that upturn in performances and results, makes him the right man to lead us forward."

    Next question - what squad?

  • Not convinced, however, I really do hope he does us and himself proud ⚒️
  • Don't think he is the right manager for the championship push personally. But there are certainly a lot of worse options out there than Nuno, so its in the uneasy territory for me.
  • I think it’s the right move, chopping and changing managers doesn’t sit well with me.
Obviously time will tell but I think he’s the right man.
  • This is the manager who is reported to have agreed to pay £21.5 million for Pablo, just saying!

Is this the manager that requested Pablo?
  • NES actively pushed for Pablo's transfer from Gil Vicente. Because he and the players Father both have deep ties to Portuguese football, NES and Pablo discussed the legacy and influence his father had on his career right upon his arrival in East London.

Paying well over the odds for Pablo was a crime IMHO.
  • If Pablo stays (I can't imagine many rushing to sign him) he may well find his level in the Championship.
  • Gil Vicente paid a reported 240,000 euros 6 months before we bought him. Both Nuno and Pablo have the same agent - Mendes! That sounds more dodgy than Harry and his dog!

Is that a quote from somewhere?

I think that there is a player in him. Just a bit strange that as a striker he isn't played as such. Maybe Nuno has asked him to do a specific task of harassing the oppo, who knows, but the upturn in performance and results with him in the side says to me that whatever he's doing is working.

He is only 22, new country, new league, so let's give him a chance to settle in and after a full pre season see how he performs next year.

Obviously if he is still here that is =)
  • MrsG, It’s from a radio report I heard about his signing & is most of the key points from what I can remember. If his agent friend Mr Mendes wants to direct a few quality players to us then the criticism about his association with him might reduce. 😉
  • I think Pablo was bought to do a specific job (harass defenders) under specific circumstances (a relegation battle).

We were previously awful at winning the ball up high and I think we got a lot better at that with the signing of Taty and Pablo, even though the two of them didn’t contribute massively in terms of goals. Doesn’t Summerville’s up turn in performances coincide with their signings?

Not sure how good Pablo will be going forward but I’m not as confused as others by the signing.

Although I agree with what you've said, I can't help feeling that we massively overpaid for him.

  • Yeah probably. Maybe that’s the sort of thing that happens when you’re desperate though?
  • I am not generally a conspiracy theorist but there is something I feel in this Pablo signing. It may not involve back handers as such but certainly a favourable look upon a player who may not have even been considered were it not for connections to Nuno.

The guy doesn't have basic skills of a pro footballer and in a world of stats fleshing out transfer deals what could he have done to make someone feel he had increased in value from £250k to £21m in 7 months.
  • We have chipmunks running around here in Canada ,One of them is now tame enough to come and eat peanuts out of our hands ,Have called him Nuno as he wants to stick around ..Trouble is come October or November he will be gone , sometimes they stay around for a second season .Have to wait and see
