  • Carse takes a wicket just before tea, but it was oh so close to a no ball. 172-3.
  • No further score, so 172-3 at tea.
  • A big session now to end the day. England really need a minimum of 3 wickets to have any claim to be even on the day, although I'm sure Stokes will want one or two more to justify his decision to bowl first.
  • A touch of fortune, but Williamson is gone; he plays a ball from Potts down into the ground, and it bounces back up behind him and loops down onto the stumps. 185-4.
  • Root misses one in the slips now.
  • But Stokes takes a decent chance at mid-off off of Atkinson, 206-5.
  • Potts gets another, caught by Crawley, and NZ are 212-6.
  • 231-7, Bethell with a good catch off Carse. Fair to say Stokes will be feeling pretty good now , especially considering the wicketless first session.
  • A fantastic catch by Brook on the boundary; his momentum takes him over the rope so he lobs the ball up and casually hops back over the rope to complete a legitimate catch.

England then form a guard of honour as Southee comes out to bat in his final test match.

    272-8.
  • Southee manages to hit a few 6s before holing out off Atkinson with Carse taking a steepling catch. 303-9.
  • 315-9 at close of play. Some quick runs for NZ in the last session, but 6 wickets for England which is a good comeback considering NZ were 93-0 at lunch.
  • Southee manages to hit a few 6s before holing out off Atkinson with Carse taking a steepling catch. 303-9.

Those sixes take him level with Chris Gayle in Test cricket!

Yeah, it's crazy, isn't it? Only 3 men have hit more 6s in Test matches than Southee, and he's only 2 more away from being joint 3rd.
  • NZ frustrate England for the first hour of the morning session, but Potts strikes with the first ball after drinks. NZ all out for 347.
  • Crawley goes to a somewhat dubious caught and bowled, it looked as though the ball may have hit the ground as the catch was taken. 32-1.
  • And Duckett goes lbw, 33-2.
  • 54-2 at lunch.
  • Bethell goes, 77-3.
  • And Brook chops on first ball, 77-4.
  • Root too, 82-5
  • Pope goes in the first over of spin, 134-6, still 213 behind.
  • Stokes goes in the second over of spin, 137-7.
  • Atkinson gone, 141-8
  • Carse gone, 141-9, still 206 behind.
  • 143 all out. Tea.
  • NZ 35-1, Atkinson with the wicket as Latham chops on.
  • 124-2, Bethell takes the catch off Stokes, the lead is 328.
  • Stokes gets the nightwatchman, caught behind, 128-3.
  • 136-3 at the close, a lead already of 340 runs.
  • Having won the T20 series 3-0 and the ODI series 2-1, our ladies are playing a one-off Test match against South Africa. England won the toss and elected to bat, and are currently 96-1 coming up to lunch.
