  • I kid you not, a republican congressman has submitted a bill to the house to allow Greenland to be renamed Red White and Blue land.

It will not pass the house nor senate so will not go anywhere but truthfully, there are some things you just cannot make up
  • It would be funny in isolation, but given everything else they’re up to it’s just another maddening step on a terrifying path to oblivion.
  • Its all smokescreen by Trump & Co, say something ridiculous that grabs attention while quietly doing real damage to important things like health, education, voting rights, etc.

Oh and Andy Carroll is injured again, suffered a hamstring against Vendee Poire 4 weeks ago.

Scored 8 in 13 for Girondins Bordeaux
  • Somehow my daughter has allowed her son to be influenced by the dark side, although under peer pressure from his school mates, to like the spuds.

He won a stadium tour at their gaff, and she went along with the little brat.

But, as ever, true class always shows its face

I feel ill, I can't imagine how you and her must be feeling.

  • My best mates son supports them and when I was helping him move house, he was genuinely confused when I refused to pack up his shirts and told him that they were solely his responsibility.

he was only nine years old and I still do not feel bad about it.

    Killer line =)

So, as Meatloaf would say, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. A triple header of sport today has seen England lose against Australia in the Champions Trophy (cricket), West Ham amazingly but deservedly beating Arsenal at the Emirates, and then England maybe somewhat fortunately regaining the Calcutta Cup and avoiding a 5th consecutive defeat against Scotland in the 6 Nations (rugby union); fortunately Finn Russell left his kicking boots back home as he missed all 3 conversion attempts, including one in the last minute, as Scotland lose by just a single point.
  • Italy v France is turning into a try fest - 6 converted tries in 31 minutes, Italy's 2nd was brilliant.
  • It's reported that Jim Ratcliffe wants to reduce 200 more jobs at Man Utd on top of the 250 from last year. He States it's to put the club on a better financial footing for the sake of the men's and women's team. To put it into context should all of those 200 people be on 50k per year it would allow him to pay one players wages for the year were that player on 200k per week. It wouldn't even pay for Mason Mount to warm the bench as he is supposedly on 250k per week.

  • Just how many people were employed at Man Utd before all these redundancies started, if they can cull 450 jobs?

At the end of last season it was c.1400.

Wow, that's huge, I guess a lot were employed just to massage the egos of their players 24/7 😂🤣😂.
  • Mason Mount on £250k per week- crazy.
In comparison the average RU Premiership salary is ca. £160k per year.
Yet if England were playing France in RU and at the same time their football teams were playing, I would be watching the Rugby.
  • I read the other day that their scouting department had 100 people

Too many cooks.... a committee trying to design a horse etc etc
  • Very much so. Honestly it’s not crazy that they’d reduce some of the staffing numbers, but it just doesn’t sit well when you’ve got a billionaire making regular people redundant so that they can keep paying millionaires an insane amount of money.
  • So a billionaire who's flagship company's debts are forecast to reach £10b this year takes a 25% stake in a debt laden football club, sacks the manager at a cost of £14m, months after giving him a new contract, makes 500 employees redundant then removes free meals for the remaining staff.

    Marvellous. 🤦‍♂️

That will never catch on in America.
  • Looking at the bottom of the league and wanting certain clubs to lose to help our position is like the good old days of being a West Ham fan.
  • Ipswich lead at Man United
  • And what a goal =)
  • The Man Utd of old would have seen the half out even with 10 men & you’d still fancy them to take the points. This side you expect to be turned over now.
  • The club has announced a freeze on season ticket prices for next season and has back tracked on plans to restrict concessions by applying them to seats in all price bands in the stadium, thanks mainly to work down by Hammer Utd and the FAB.

  • From calling Zelensky a dictator to trying to blackmail Ukraine into giving away their natural resources (the value of which will be needed more than ever to rebuild their country when there finally is a resolution to the war), I find Trump's behaviour to be completely abhorrent. The charade played out in front of the world's media yesterday, aided by his lapdog JD Vance, to belittle Zelensky and manufacture a situation whereby Zelensky had to accept all of Trump's terms or walk away thus giving Trump an opportunity to back away from supplying aid whilst blaming Ukraine is, imo, utterly disgusting.

Would any US based Hammers care to share how Trump's stance on Ukraine is viewed in the US?
  • buffy ,Can only tell you from my Canadian view How Trump and as you said his lap dog treated Zelensky was disgusting .I felt so bad for the guy .All of my Canadian friends plus our Government are behind Ukraine .When we get together with our Karaoke group We end up talking world affairs .However our American friends seem disinterested not only in Ukraine but anything outside there country As the old joke goes .Why does America go to war ....To teach there people Geography .I found yesterday very sad for the people of Ukraine .Can only hope in some way that country's will now get even more behind them
  • Unfortunately I think that the opinion follows party lines, if you are firmly behind Trump and his agenda then you can get behind what happened yesterday in the Oval Office, those who oppose Trumps gleefully jumped on the carnage of the interview.

The interesting aspect for me is that there are a significant number of people who voted for him as they generally favor his policies but do not like him personally, I am curious if this latest debacle will influence them enough to turn them against him.

As for the Ukraine issue itself, even before this train wreck of a meeting and no matter what Trump thinks he is able to achieve, I do believe there is genuine fatigue within the US population regarding continuing supporting Ukraine and a strong sentiment exists that some end of the conflict needs to be negotiated as support cannot be sustained indefinitely.

For me, I have still not got my head around the resolution held in the United Nations the prior week where the United States of America could not vote in favor of condemning Russia as the aggressor in the conflict, siding with North Korea, Belarus, Sudan and the Congo, utterly unbelievable… I think that therein lies the underlying answer to your question

Yeah, this is kinda what I was getting at, how can anyone back him, as the supposed "Leader of the Free World" after his disgusting performance? Dealing with Putin directly and calling Zelensky a dictator? Disgraceful.

I get that America would rather not be having to financially aid Ukraine, as I'm sure the countries in Europe, the UK included, would rather not have to; there are always so many things domestically for all countries that need funding, but to see the US freely accept Russian aggression and refuse to call it out is something I never thought I'd witness.

And to see Trump trying to pressure Zelensky into giving away a good percentage of Ukraine's mineral wealth when his country is fighting for its very existence is beyond contempt; it's just felt, in the last week or so, that all Trump wants to do is profit from the current situation like a cheap racketeer. I doubt the reputation of the US in Europe has been worse at any time since the Second World War.
  • Looking at it logically the UK and other European countries provided aid to Ukraine by way of loans which are going to have to be repaid at some point. The US on the other hand gave their aid without it being a loan so in a way I can see where he’s coming from. He’s showing the US voters that they can’t keep giving money away. The minerals deal is a way of recompense for the billions they’ve given. If you view it from the other angle if the mineral deal goes ahead then by default the US will be providing security to Ukraine as they would want and need to protect their assets. They already have far more troops stationed in Europe than we actually have in our army.
Having said that there was absolutely no need for what happened Friday but sometimes I do think that Zelenskyy keeps touting for more aid as if he’s convinced he can defeat Russia before he runs out of people to do the fighting. He was set a trap on Friday which he dived straight into.
Somehow this needs to be resolved and some kind of peace brokered but it’s not going to happen without the US like it or not.
I really can’t see Putin fearing the “wrath” of Starmer and Lammy and taking any notice of what they say.

That line about security is what the US was peddling.

But the US could easily ignore Ukraine's 'security' and allow Putin to annex it, as long as Putin allowed the US continued access to the minerals.

Tell me that's not a possible outcome.
