  • We don't seem to have a particularly active youth teams thread, so I thought I'd put this here. Some tackle.

We went on to win on penalties, into the semi-finals.
  • It’s not even the tackle, it’s the commitment to chase back to be able to make it

Oh for sure, he was so far back yet put his head down and chased what seemed a hopeless cause, then, when the Man Utd player stumbled slightly it was all the opportunity he needed.
  • Similar to Agued a year or two ago.

Chelsea Womens team are fully financed whilst our team isn’t. Simple! 😢
  • West Ham story from James Collins, be warned, there is some colourful language:

  • I am trying to visualize Andy Carroll and Collins squaring up and Nobes trying to get between them, too funny
  • Any rugby union fans here? Finally England in a narrow match, triumphing 26-25 against France with 3 changes of lead in the final 10 minutes. However, I can't believe the following forward pass in the final French try wasn't picked. The momentum rule is a farce anyway imo, if you catch the ball further upfield than where it was thrown, it's gone forward, but in this example the player making the pass is on the 22, and it's caught at least 2 yards inside the 22 after going only 6 or 7 yards. Can't believe more wasn't made of it in the commentary.
  • I'm not a Rugby fan but there wouldn't seem any doubt as the ref has actual lines on the pitch in this instance to measure against. Is there no VAR in Rugby?

There's actually a usually very good VAR system in rugby, which makes this look so much worse. If it hadn't been for a last minute England try, this would have cost us the match.

  • I read somewhere yesterday (HYS maybe) that it's decided by the movement of the passer's hands. If the movement is backwards or level then it's not a forward pass, regardless of the flight of the ball.
  • I think that’s right. It depends on the direction of the ball at the moment it leaves the passers hands regardless of its eventual direction of travel.
  • So I guess the French No 8 was out sprinting Usain Bolt at the time to get that much forward momentum on the ball. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think so. If the forward momentum was 2 metres in one second it’s 50 seconds for 100 metres. Even I could manage that but Usain Bolt would be way in the distance.

That's right, but for it to go 2 metres forward whilst only travelling 6 metres it seems impossible that the passer's hands weren't going forward.

  • IMO, that is simply a forward pass and the officials missed it.
  • From the BBC

West Ham have spent a lot of money on a lot of players trying to provide competition for Michail Antonio in the striking slot.

Sebastian Haller and Gianluca Scamacca both arrived with big reputations amid much fanfare - but failed to deliver.

There was an expectation Danny Ings would score goals - but didn't. Going further back, Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez both had brief spells at the club.

"Brief". Of short duration; not lasting for long.

Andy Carroll was with West Ham for 7 years in total, and played 142 times for us.

    Great reporting.

Ah, but Andy Carroll did have a brief spell, he was here on loan for most of a season before technically returning to Liverpool. He then had a longer spell when we signed him permanently 😂🤣😂.
  • If it’s possible to feel sorry for a millionaire footballer, then it’s big Andy. I always thought he was a far better footballer than given credit for, it was such a shame he was so injury prone.
  • The subject of communication has been raised a few times, with reference to foreign managers.

Anyone want to have a go at this, which caught my eye on the BBC rolling updates page?

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on whether he is happy with the balance of his squad: "Yes but my opinion on how we are doing, the process, is still always being in balance. The balance is because we have to see it, in the process we are going to create and to be here.

Yeah, Trump's geography is a suspect as well. Canada, America's 51st state. Greenland, part of USA. Gaza, part of USA.
  • Gulf of America.

I saw a think pop up on FB recently: Mexico has re-named The White House...
