As much as I worry about our ageing squad, I hope he stays; I can't see us signing 2 CBs in the same window, and we still need to replace Dawson. I know Kehrer can play at CB, but against a lot of teams the lack of aerial dominance of a CB pairing of Aguerd and Kehrer would be a big concern for me.
  • Re Brennan Johnson, rumours Brentford had a £30m bid rejected.
  • No mention of Coufal, Cresswell or Fabianski as either retained or released. Ogbonna offered a new contract but no mention of whether he has signed it:

"Angelo Ogbonna has been offered a new contract to extend his eight-year stay in east London after he recovered from major knee surgery to make 30 appearances in the 2022/23 season."

  • The fact they aren't on the retain list makes me think they aren't going anywhere.

The fact that we need lots of players without replacing them makes me think they aren't going anywhere.

Confirmed on the OS that Lanzini is being released.

No surprise, but a find farewell after eight years. Will need replacing in the squad, be it from the U21s or a new player.

Noble's farewell message got me right in the feelings
    Got something in my eye...
  • I've only seen Brennan Johnson play in Bowens position. Can he go the other side too? If so, he'd be a good acquisition...
  • Oh and btw now the windows open I suddenly feel tht familiar feeling of wanting everyone we are linked to no matter how far fetched the rumours are
  • Mate I’m the same
    Love silly season
You know there’s no chance, absolutely no way.. but then there’s just that small part of you thinks what if they joined..
  • Brighton doing their business early.Mind you i thought they would have got more for Mac Allister.

Didn't he have a release clause?

    Yes.

Thought Carvalho looked decent when he was playing early in the season, anyone know why he suddenly disappeared?

Think I’ve seen him play centrally as well? But I actually think Bowen could do with some competition.

One assumes he's Caicedo's replacement. This is where I envy Brighton's strategy; they always seem to have someone lined up to replace those that we sell.

He absolutely could. Sure I remember Moyes saying Cornet can play wide right when we signed him, but if it's true that he's being considered for a central role, then we definitely need cover/competition on the right.

That said, it won't be Brennan, IMO. If Forest have turned down £30m from Brentford, I can't see us going to £35-40m for someone that is unlikely to be a starter.
  • Arsenal have released Ainsley Maitland-Niles after 19 years with the club (signed when he was 6yo). His last appearance for Arsenal was back in November 2021, spending last season on loan at Saints and the 2nd half of the season before at Roma.

Predominantly a RB he has also played LB, CB, DM, CM, LM and RM. 5 caps for England, all in 2020.

Sky Sports reckon he has an offer from Germany and another from Turkey
  • Ah so he’s the Niclas Alexandersson of Championship Manager days.. IYKYK

Didn't he get a bit snotty at one point about having to play RB, as he considered himself a CM?

  • He did. He broke through at Ipswich as a centre midfielder, then thought he was good enough to be a starting CM at Arsenal, and it all went downhill

I thought he was decent enough for a lower PL team, maybe a newly promoted side or, of course, Forest. I would think he'll get a contract on a free.

We were interested in Carvalho when he was at Fulham so totally would not surprise me if we tried to sneak him on loan.

I think he’s being very disrespectful. We took care of him whil injured. I think he only played about a dozen games and didn’t do much. He owes us.
  • Pass on AMN but I would like us to try and get Loftus Cheek at the price he was quoted for him to go to Milan. He’s definitely box to box and could carry us forward. Yep he’s been stop n start but there’s still plenty of potential and actual there IMO
  • nychammer66, I tend to agree BUT if you were him and it’s your boyhood team coupled you have David Moyes as your manager who isn’t going to play to your strengths then what are you going to do? A loan deal might just mean he can come back to us when we change managers next summer 🤞? We do need the funds unfortunately so we can buy Antonio Mk2 when he leaves in the current window as I assume the Rice money is going on his two replacements.
  • I also think it’s important we take things with a pinch of salt. Him “insisting” could very well be him saying “if I must leave I am only interested in going to Roma, otherwise I’m happy to stay here” which is not disrespectful at all, imo
  • If he’s desperate to play for Mourinho at Roma then he has no real desire. Mourinho, although a winner, has less flare than Moyes.
