  • 4 centuries on the first day of a Test Match, I doubt that's ever happened before, has it?

    No it hasn't.

Only 5th time in Tests 500 runs or more scored in a day. First time 500 scored on the first day of a Test. 6 runs short of record score in one day of a Test by one side (Sri Lanka 508).

    There's probably more. 🤓
  • They would have got 90 overs in if they hadn’t had to keep fetching the ball back from the boundary.
  • buffy, That is also likely to happen at Old Trafford or the Emirates.

Maybe, but I thought I'd be more likely to get a rise out of Baz if I only mentioned Liverpool 😂🤣😂
Its the thought that counts. I havent been paying enough attention and will do better next time. Hopefully, my pro Liverpool comments on another thread will restore a bit of normality.

I'm surprised nobody has written the term Bazball here when talking about the Cricket... Thats especially the case for me, so I am writing it.

    #Bazball :)
  • Went to Sandown races yesterday on the annual pilgrimage of my old work team. On our return we went into The Candlemaker, by Cannon Street station, to watch the end of the afternoon football. Lo and behold but who are sitting there watching the game are non other than Tony Cottee, Carlton Cole and James Collins.

Still get a bit star struck, even at my age. 😍
  • Herb, you can never be too old. ;)
Did you speak to them, ask for their autographs, buy them a pint etc. or some such ? =)
  • No I didn't. They were with a group of friends and I'm not one to encroach when they are socialising. If I saw them on their own then I most likely would approach them.
  • In my own little tribute I’ve got Fleetwood Mac blasting out. Man she wrote some wonderful songs that woman.😥
  • Watched a documentary on Christine and Chickenshack and The Mac the other night and I’d completely forgotten how deeply in love with Stevie Nicks I was back then.

    Never wrote back though.

Extremely aggressive declaration from England, setting Pakistan 343 in 4 sessions bearing in mind England just rattled off over 200 runs in the afternoon session.

I know they're unlikely to get a full 120 overs in given the light situation, and I get that they wanted to dangle a carrot for Pakistan to chase, but I can't help feeling it's way too generous on such a placid pitch and fast outfield. I can see this going horribly wrong.

Also feel a bit sorry for some Brook who was nearing a second century in the match (and possibly the fastest ever by an English player) but had obviously been told a declaration was coming at tea so, needing 13 off a maximum of 8 balls (I think, without his wicket, they would have squeezed one more over in before tea), tried one extravagant shot too many and was bowled by a straight one.

    Edit: 1st wicket down, 20-1
  • You have to remember England no longer consider the draw. 2 wickets down, including Baber Azam, and one batter off with mashed fingers is a pretty good start.
  • Makes for potentially great entertainment.
We used to call them a “ sporting declaration “.

A very good start, but, given that England had just rattled off over 200 in the afternoon session at 7 and a half runs an over, not necessarily a start you could reasonably have predicted.

But 25-2 and a player off injured is a great start for sure.
  • 200 in a session is not in the Pakistan psyche. England won't mind losing if they were pushing for a win. Pakistan will not want to lose , especially at home.
  • I'm not suggesting they need to score at that rate as half of that would be more than enough; I was merely using it to illustrate that the surface is remarkably good for a 4th day pitch.
  • And in other news:

"Nottingham Forest have signed Brazilian attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa on a free transfer."

It's understood that his midfield partner Pablo Bodgit will be joining him at the next transfer window. Gustavo recommended him to Forest saying that the pair of them would destroy the opposition. =)
  • Scarpa? Is he related to Carlos Kickaball?
  • Preston, isn’t he related to the Italian player Bodgit? 😉
  • The drop by Pope just before tea could prove very costly; 86 needed by Pakistan, 5 wickets needed by England in the final session of the match which will be shorter than in a usual match due to sunset being before the scheduled close of play (would love to hear the logic in that).
  • Maybe because they use a lot of spin and generally get 90 overs in good time. Who knows. Couldn’t see the logic in our having tests etc at th3 end of Sept
  • The cricket.
As my wonderful Yaaaaaaarkshire wife might say: “ Proper knickergripping”.

Must admit, until this test and the shortness of the days in Pakistan at the moment, I hadn't realised that the cricket season in the sub-continent is kinda in their winter rather than their summer (although, certainly in India, it's a very long season just missing the peak of their summer really). It does explain the short days over there atm, but still makes you question the start time at this time of year.
  • So, truly into their bowlers now after 2 quick wickets after tea. Should be a good final hour 🤞🤞🤞
  • Pope had to go for that one, surely.
  • Wonderful stuff!🎉🎉🎉
  • Well, that got rather tense, but well played England, and well played Stokes for your very brave declaration 👏👏👏

Poor old Coventry City are having problems with their landlords again!

After all the trouble they had in 2012 with one set of owners they've now been handed an eviction notice by Frasers Group (CEO Mike Ashley) who bought the stadium three weeks ago

And they were all laughing at Wasps when they went bust. Karma.
  • Eddie Jones sacked as England's Rugby Union head coach.
