I was six when Cottee, MacAvennie and The Boys of 86 were tearing up the league, so can remember them, but at that age I don't think you're really too aware of what's happening with your team.
It was from '91 onwards that I really became emotionally involved. I remember the excitement of that FA Cup run where Stuart Slater was unplayable and the crushing injustice of Keith H*ckett sending Tony Gale off.

I was 6,too,at the time but living in Germany I had little exposure to what was going on. It was only once Harry became coach that I really remember getting involved, listening to the matches and reading the Hammers mag.
I was really thinking the league title was possible. It got pretty close
I do remember us being sunk by an absolute piledriver of a Johnny metgod free kick v forest which literally went straight through Parkes. It’s on YouTube.
I was 14 and would go every home game and that was my most enjoyable season, I really felt we could win every match and even the league. Foolish child.
I remember being at West Brom in 86 where we won 3-2 but because of other results we were out of contention for the title. (I think). We had an absolutely superb first eleven that year but characteristically failed to build on our success for the following season.

I was there I think we lost 3-2 at the city ground to that free kick
Signed as a midfielder initially if I’m not mistaken. See, even in those days we were hopeless at signing actual specialist strikers
Yes Paul Goddard got injured at Birmingham in the first game of the season so McAvennie played up front v QPR on the Tuesday and scored 2, the rest was history as was "Sarge" who we sold to Newcastle.

McAvennie was supposed to play "in the hole" behind Cottee and Paul Goddard but "Sarge" got injured on the first day away at Birmingham City so Lyall did an Arnautovic and played Frankie Mac up front.

I was 25 and there was this lovely sort called Gayle, a Villa fan, who lived in Sparkbrook so I travelled to every away game in the West Mids that season...
What was noticeable 1985-86 season was that there was no football on TV until January because the Football League wouldn't agree a deal. No MotD, no Big Match, etc.
The first football on TV was Charlton v West Ham live, FA Cup 3rd round, 5 January, we won 1-0 and Cottee scored
86 was a magic year the most games I ever attend in a season, every home one and 9 away in WBA, I still remember the football focus doing a profile on frank after about 6 weeks of the season
Loftus-Cheek is a player I'd quite like to see us in for in the summer.
I think it was alderz that was championing him on here in the summer. He dominated the midfield in our draw a few weeks ago so I'd definitely be interested.

It was me, I think he’s brilliant and I would love to sign him. He can play anywhere in midfield or attack too.
Surprise to see Loftus cheek is 25 throught he was about 20 never really pushed on has he
I think his injuries stopped him from keeping up the momentum in the Chelsea team. It’s not even that he’s injury prone, it’s that a few weeks out at Chelsea means you’ll lose your spot.
But we are top 6!! I get your drift though. This is the trouble with modern day footballers. Does he want to play on a 30% reduction or sit on the bench and earn more?

I meant in terms of finances, there is a considerable drop from the 'big 6' to the likes of us, Everton, Leicester etc. And with that comes wages

I know what you mean, but tbf to him he hasn’t turned down moves or demanded money or anything yet. If he spends the next couple of years on the bench or in the stands just so he can earn a bit more then fair enough
Moyes has made some great signings so far, our 2 Czech heroes, Lingard....Bowen...but I think the most obscure one in Craig Dawson has been unbelievable, ridiculed by many when signed this guy has been immense, surely we will snap him up for a small fee ( compared to others ) IMO he has been nothing short of fantastic....( Not saying others haven't ) but Dawson for me has been a really brilliant signing....

Cuz so was I & it was 2-1 to Forest.

I didn't notice cos weekends I was out clubbing
Apparently making £150k a week at Chelsea, he'd have to take a considerable pay cut to move permanently to us or any non top 6 club
Saw this earlier, and I liked it. The club acknowledging that we have to keep growing to match Rice
