Southampton (A) - 6pm 29/12

The Jose Fonte derby.

My long unbeaten run continues.

Say what you want about the performance, but you're welcome for the point.

We are massive and I am massive.

  • I reckon you must be on a verbal warning, Jorderz

I sincerely hope you manage to deliver something slightly easier on the eye.
  • The Luís Boa Morte Derby
  • Anderson scored two great goals in this game last season. Those were the days.
Shock 2-1 away win for the Hammers.

  • Oh look it's old defensive Jorderz starting another respect the point match thread. Loss 😉

Oh and it's the Iain Dowie derby
  • Need to mix it up, lot of the guys looked tired today

Just hope Noble doesn't start, think Lanzini and (less so) Yarmolenko have done enough to play themselves into into the starting XI, Benrahma would get in above Yarmolenko for me but Moyes doesn't seem to rate Said at all

    Fab
    Balbuena Oggy Cresswell
    Coufal Soucek Noble Johnson
    Yarmo Haller Lanzini

Could make a case that Fornals could deputise for one of Rice/Soucek who both looked off the pace today (understandably as they haven't had a chance to be rested)

    Fabianski
    Balbuena - Ogbonna - Cresswell
    Fredericks - Soucek - Rice - Johnson
    Bowen - Lanzini

If you hope Noble doesn't start, why have you got him starting over Rice?

What as coufel done wrong ?
  • I think Coufal needs a breather
  • We all do
  • For the Eyal Berkovic and Nigel Quashie derby we need to play

    Fabianski
    Balbuena - Ogbonna - Cresswell
Coufal- Soucek - Rice - Johnson
    Lanzini - Antonio/Yarmalenko - Benrahma

Formals, if either Rice or Soucek are rested.
We are not the same team with Haller and he has had plenty of chances. He will come good in out of 10 games but that is not EPL standard. Yamolenko could be deployed as a false 9 in the absence of Antonio. Bowen needs rest for a game or two.

    2-0 to the Hammers.
  • Speaking of Coufal, can Fredericks not be trusted to deputise?
  • If Antonio is available I don't want him to start

Will just aggravate his injury again, and we'd be in the same position as we were after we rushed him back the last time vs Villa

Lets bring him back in gradually
  • If he was not available today, not even for the bench, I’d be surprised if he made it just 48 hours later

Eight outfield players played a full 90 minutes, how many will have another 90 minutes in them after just two days' rest?
  • To be fair, most of them didn't put much running into the first half.
  • Looking at Southampton team against Fulham, the following had this many starts so far this season:

    (Gk) McCarthy - 15
    (LB) Bertrand - 14
    (CB) Stephens - 4
    (CB) Bednarek - 15
    (RB) Walker-Peters - 15
    (RM) Armstrong - 12
    (CM) Diallo - 1
    (CM) Ward Prouse - 15
    (LM) Walcott - 10
    (ST) Long - 1
    (ST) Adams - 15

Stephens, Diallo and Long were brought in after Vestergaard, Romeu and Ings missed out, all three are key players for Saints (Redmond is also missing)

Of those 3, only Romeu is due to return (he was suspended), the rest of the team will likely be the same, the only questions marks is that Djenepo likely may come in for Walcott

So in terms of freshness, they rotate as infrequently as we do so its probably pretty even in terms of fitness especially as you would imagine (although with Moyes no guarantees) that we will likely see at least 1 of Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Benrahma or Fornals against them
  • The Neil Ruddock Derby 🙌🏻
  • Fabianski
    Fredericks , Balbuena , Ogbonna , Cresswell , Johnson
    Soucek , Rice
    Yarmolenko , Lanzini , Benrhama
  • Why are people on here suggesting coufal needs replacing or resting

Exactly. Let's drop one of our top three players this season!
