I’m sure whoever he signs won’t be under any scrutiny after all in moyes we trust where forwards are concerned after all he’s got the best out of arnie and Antonio but not hugill or haller so the jury’s out
We may mock, but if you put aside all the other stuff that comes with him, he is many times the more suitable Prem league performer than Haller ever was. And would quite obviously suits Moyes’ way of playing.
If we are indeed linked with him, given the owners we have, it doesn’t surprise me one bit.
For the record, I am not suggesting anyone should drop the Haller subject. I’m just not convinced that scoring or playing well in Holland is a sign he was right for us. Remember when Zaza left and scored goals? Calleri? I think even Perez did. None of these people are bad footballers, but they just didn’t work out for us.
I’m personally unimpressed that we’ve sold him without having a replacement ready to sign immediately.
And I’m not convinced that playing him in a system that wearnt to his strengths makes him a failure, I’ve also said it’s moyes perogotive to play any system he wants but knowing haller didn’t fit into it should have replaced him with somebody in the squad more able imo
I know one consensus is we shouldn’t rush and make sure we make the right decision on our next striker and not panic but etc.
However hasn’t moyes has long enough to identify some sort of a shortlist f what he actually wants? I mean this moment has been coming for a long time (Haller departing) - arguably since we came back from lockdown when he started playing Antonio ahead of him up front
So to then actually sell Haller at a massive loss and then scramble around after a host of names (like we always do), including ones who patently don’t want to come (like we always do), is frankly embarrassing.
Baracks 👍 Moyes was always going to sell Haller. They probably expected to do so in the summer, but like you say, the club should have been in a position to move for a replacement straight away.
Now that Ajax have disclosed the undisclosed fee we received for Haller, clubs will know how much we have to spend, and they will know that we're now desperate for a replacement. We're in such a weak negotiating position and I still can't quite believe that we let our starting striker go without being in a position to replace him.
No me neither even if it his deeney king or arnie but that’s the usual case for us recently till about two days before the window closes when we offer low to try but super strikers who won’t come and then we get told we tried but wouldn’t come to us, selling club upped the anti blah blah blah

Haller suffered a hip injury in a friendly against QPR just before the Premier League resumed after lockdown and was unavailable for the first four games. Antonio found some form and kept Haller out of the starting line up.

I'm sure he has a shortlist but there's a big difference between wanting a player and signing them
This excuse is given time and again in defence of the club. Meanwhile we sit here with the club having no recognised strikers at the club at all and it is entirely of its own making. If that isn’t a complete and utter shambles I really don’t know what is.
So according to reports we are in talks for Daka/Dia/Milik and are not interested in King mmmm I think it better to have a few games with one striker than be lumbered with a panic buy for 4 years I will wait to the end of the window before judging it a shambles or not
The latest from Ex seems to suggest that we're almost exclusively looking at players whose contracts expire in the summer. Which in turn suggests that cost, rather than suitability, is the driving factor.
Bottom line is we need a midfielder and a striker as a minimum this window. Anything less than that is frankly unacceptable, IMO.

Hardly any surprise the club is a shambles, its owned by a pair of idiots who have gone through four other managers since 2010, all of who had different ideas of what the team should be, how it should play and what players were needed.
Moyes has been manager for a year and 12 days, he needs time to sort out the mess he inherited.

Absolutely he needs time, but he also needs backing by the board. Haller obviously wasn't a Moyes player, so they need to give him the scope (and money) to bring in someone that is; not just anyone because their contract is up in the summer and they'd be free (Ex says we're interested in King, Milik, Dia, Armstrong, Aboubakar and Deeney; all free agents in the summer. Coincidence?)
Whoever Moyes wants to replace Haller has to fit want he wants; not just Sullivan's wallet.
It does circle back to the owners absolutely. Moyes doesn’t IMO need an eternity to determine why he wants. He will already know and have done so for a while. Getting in just one recognised striker of his choosing is not asking much at all. Especially as all the other strikers we did have have been moved on one way or another.
Looking at Daka on YouTube, it’s clear we want him as he has that pace & running like Antonio.
Yeah, he looks rapid. From what I've seen, Dia is similar to Antonio too, but not as quick as Daka.
So these links are encouraging as it looks like we're identifying players that suit our system, but identifying them and getting them are two very different things.
From what I've read this month we're pleading poverty and may only have 50% of the Haller fee to spend, which won't be enough for either Daka or Dia.
Adam Armstrong. 24 in Feb, 18 months left on contract 32 in 68 in the Championship. Had a taste of the PL with Newcastle, won't cost the earth.
I like the idea of Armstrong. Certainly got some Bowen vibes about him.
Think it'll take £20m to get him though, so I'm not convinced it'll happen; more likely that we'll wait until he's in the last year of his deal and knock the price down.

No it doesn't. It doesn't have to be an either/or. To me it suggests cost is one factor.
No point drawing up a list of targets we can't afford. That would be a waste of time.

Everton are considering a move for 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson, who is on loan at Porto from West Ham United. (Teamtalk)

Have FIFA definitely relaxed the rule about not being able to play for more than two clubs in a season due to the pandemic?
