“ There was an impression that Haller’s work rate was lacking when he played as a lone striker, that he was unable to compete as well physically with opposition defenders as would be hoped, while it is understood some West Ham players were frustrated by what was perceived to be a lackadaisical approach.
Analysis suggests it may have been less the amount of work he did but more effectiveness of his work that was the problem.
Haller actually applied the most pressure in the middle third of the pitch than any other West Ham player per 90 minutes this season and had a higher rate of tackles (1.35 to 0.63), fouls (2.31 to 1.72) and interceptions (0.48 to 0.31) per 90 minutes than Antonio, suggesting that the effort was there. Haller’s smarterscout analysis chart below shows that his defensive intensity was actually pretty good. (Smarterscout is a site which gives detailed analytics on players all over the world, producing a score between 0-99, a bit like the player ratings in the FIFA video games but powered by real data and advanced analytics.)”
BND @ 5.16, did we do our research properly on Haller? WHUpathman @ 5.41 Haller will not fall off my radar. Lukerz @ 7.12 Selling Haller without a replacement being lined up would raise questions about David Moyes IMHO. Thornbury @ 7.22 Declan Rice did post a good luck message on Twitter to Haller.
Haller’s 2019/2020 season at West Ham concluded with 7 goals and 2 assists, which can be argued is due to the systems he was used in. The Frenchman also seemed to lack the potency which he had displayed the season before and was often dominated by the Premier League’s top defences.
I desperately wanted Haller to succeed for West Ham, however I was always frustrated watching him. Too grumpy and didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as those who tried to provide for him. I do wish him well though of course.
Not as expensive tho but guess you’d expect the scouting system to be an improvement on the previous forward signing ie knows the strengths and weaknesses of said figurine and play to it to get the best out of it
I’d like to hope we have a striker identified we can move quickly for as we don’t want to be going into two home games, where we will be targeting 6 points, with Antonio only.
what a bananas comment we have always had room for a player to come in regardless we dont even have 25 players. What a non comment from Moyes. The worrying part though is we are not even close to bringing someone in. So no one even lined up, no fee agreed for a replacement, we have literally done it again.... put ourselves in a position where other clubs can hike up the price on us.
No doubt a 35 year old pelle on a 6 month contract then scramble all summer for a striker not getting any first second choices and completely neglecting other positions we need to fill. Club strategy is absolute toilet.
Moyes likes to take his time buying players he was criticised at Man U for the same thing. I would rather he got the right player than another sully random buy
Unfortunately time isn’t something we have, as lukerz said hes shown how ruthless he can be getting rid of haller, let’s not hope it turns into stupidness by not having someone better lined up to replace him
21 senior players now, 3 are keepers 18 outfield players, one is Masuaku 17 available senior outfield players currently
2 of our "senior players" are actually still classed as U21's as far as registering players is concerned I believe, so we've only got a 19 man squad compared to 25 for almost all other Premier League clubs.
This should be a huge worry in any season, but with games so close together, and the constant risk of Covid ruling out players, it's negligent not to address it.
C and H saying we owe 11.5 on haller so will have 8.5mio to go int9 the transfer kitty (spread over a no of years as paid in instalments) which is less than I thought we still owed for him . If we get a striker we could switch Antonio to right wing and Bowen to left wing maybe , would give us plenty of pace
Ravel Morrison has had hIs contract cancelled by mutual consent at ADO Den Haag . I can’t believe his agent manages to still get him clubs he must have a video with lots of skill clips on

I’ve not read the Athletic article, but I know it is a reputable outlet, so seems interesting.
