Diang made 10 starts in his 21 appearances, Johnson just 8 starts in 11 and I doubt if he'd be starting if Masuaku was fit. Ngakia got 5 starts out of 5 but he was only included in the matchday squad 8 times. Stanislas got 26 starts in 47 appearances over three seasons.
None of them in my opinion qualify as "first team regulars"
We may have developed some good players from the academy but they've had to go elsewhere to become first team regulars and I don't think that actually counts if we're talking about our ability to "develop our own"
For all the talk of cover/ rotation for Rice and Soucek, if it happens I suspect it would end up being some like Shelvey as opposed to some like Choudhury
To me the glaring need is for a striker for when Antonio does his ‘ strings again. Apart from the odd worldie I’m afraid Haller is not the answer for the formation(s) that we play.
I am a big fan of Benrahma as a player and glad he is here in that respect, but it appears we should have spent that money on Eze from QPR in the summer rather than Benrahma. He is doing well at Palace and I think with even better players around him, as we have, he would look even more impressive.
As it is we have spent on Benrhama and still need a striker.
This window and each one until he either signs a new contract or leaves will ultimately be judged by one question, is Rice still with us?
Chelsea midfield looking severely lacking against Man City, 3 nil down and not even half time. It's going to strengthen Chelsea's desire to get Rice I fear.
c&bsky, I understand we couldn't seriously bid for Eze because we needed to sell Diangana first to raise the funds and he went after Palace had agreed a deal?
Why would Rice want to go there ,Seems like them and us are about the same level
Are we going to have this again?
Because he was a Chelsea fan as a kid, Mason Mount is his best mate, they have played in Europe every season apart from one since 1997-98 and they spend the sort of money that we don't.
A better question would be why would he want to stay at West Ham? What can we offer him?
I hope there is no truth in that. He was disruptive and publicly held the Club to ransom to force a transfer. That should not be forgotten. He could do the same again and I would not be able to cheer him.
To repeat, Arnautovic was Shanghai's joint top scorer last season with Hulk and Hulk has left on a free. Why on earth would they agree to a loan deal?
Haven’t there been new rules introduced about Chinese clubs needing to limit their spending? It’s possible they need to trim the wage bill, and having him move on loan and show he can “still do it” in Europe might help them sell him in the summer.

Foreign player salaries will be capped at £52k pw but there are allowances for players who are already on contracts with a phased reduction over three seasons. Apparently the clubs got around previous restrictions by increasing bonuses and Arnie's contract runs until December 2022, no doubt Shanghai will find a way to make sure he doesn't feel short changed.
Arnie isn't even Shanghai's highest paid player, Oscar is pocketing a neat £19m a year

Thanks ASLEF. I knew I’d seen something about the rules but wasn’t sure what.
I mean, I guess there’s always lots of reasons a club might sell a player. He could be disruptive and agitating for a move (he does have previous); they could be wanting to trim the wage bill to afford to keep Oscar a bit longer; they could have their eye on another foreign player (they only get a small number of non-Chinese players in their squads); or maybe they want to get a price for him before his contract runs out and he leaves on a free and six months in England will inflate his price more than six months in China.
Chinese clubs are allowed five foreign players and now that Hulk has left on a free Shanghai have an empty spot. 8 out of 16 clubs have all five places filled, the rest have four or fewer, Mousa Dembele is Guangzhou City's only foreign player.
Although you might have hit on something about having previous, remember how his brother/agent was always stirring it about him wanting a move, this does begin to sound very familiar.
Can’t see it being anything but a rumour if he’s on 200k a week what amount of the wage would we pay for a 32 year old mercenary, who for me did the dirty on us, could have understand if he was chasing honours but for China 🇨🇳 then I’d say you made your bed, lie on it simples and to be fair to moyes hugill apart as done well with his signings so I’d say let him choose another Antonio type from anywhere else rather than arnie only my opinion though

Too early to judge that he will be the better long-term buy, IMO.
