Hamstew, the Aston Villa lucky numbers are £84 million spent this window and £227 over the last two seasons per the media. I can't be the only one who not only finds this distressing but alarming that G & S believe we are going to be alright without some real investment in the team.
Yeah, Villa aren’t really the model to follow and I’m not sure why people think they are.
They blew all that money last year and finished below us. Spending money for money’s sake is not a good idea - he didn’t work for Villa last time and it didn’t work for us on Haller, Anderson etc.
I thought we were better than them before last season but then finished a few points ahead of them. Point wasn't really about Villa anyway just that other clubs are still managing to make signings. Just gutted that covid has only really hit the Stratford area financially.
Its not just us, Leicester have only signed one player, RB Timothy Castagne from Atalanta (£25m) and Burnley have only signed GK Will Norris from Wolves (?).
But then they did much better last season than we did so they don't need to do much.
Newcastle, Everton and now Villa have made good moves
But its been quiet windows for Fulham, Burnley, WBA, Brighton, Southampton, Palace and us
Sorry WHU I don't reckon their transfer dealings have been anywhere as bad as ours & it's not based solely on money spent. Fulham have signed seven new players although mainly on loan deals but it's still 7, Palace got Eze plus two others, Burnley are in the same boat as us it that they have done next to nothing, Soucek was from January for us, before he is used as a fact to beat me with! Brighton five, Southampton have spent £22 million+ on two but I admit one was previously on loan (KWP) & West Brom another 7.

Will have to agree to disagree
Think Southampton are weaker as they lost Hojberg, KWP is as you said a loan player
Brighton have only signed Veltman & Lallana, the others are kids. Dunno how good Veltman is, but Ajax letting someone go for less than £1mil is odd given how much they normally charge. Lallana is a potential Wilshere
Fulhams approach seems scattergun, going for quantity over quality, the exact type of window we panned on our first in the LS and same thing they did when they were relegated. Big mistake imo
WBA have the exact same window as us as their only 2 major signings are loanees they had last year
I would give you Palace, but if Zaha goes then it very much becomes an awful window. Batshuyai has never shown his consistent ability
Sheffield United have swapped Ramsdale for Henderson, arguably a downgrade and then some kids
Don't think Leeds have done well either. Koch covers White who I think was their best CB, and Rodrigo isnt a guaranteed success
Unless Silva hits the ground running, Wolves are weaker on paper losing Jota and Doherty
Leicester are the same, with Chilwell swapped for Castagne who is an unknown
I think we will make a couple moves before the window closes
Of the above teams, the only deal I'm envious of is Eze, and he isn't proven at this level
I'd still like us to have a boost of the owners signing someone in a position we require, as opposed to signing a cheque to themselves covering interest on payments
But the window is not closed yet..............we could get even poorer. i think we will get 2 or 3 in but whether they are the right calibre remains to be seen
