Talk of Deli Ali being a make weight in a deal for Bale going to Spurs. If Madrid are looking at Dele Ali and accepting make weights the world has gone mad.
Burnley have turned down a third bid from West Ham, this time of £31m, for James Tarkowski.
Around £25m was offered up front – an improvement on the second bid, which included around £10m in add-ons.
Burnley have told West Ham their bid is still significantly lower than their valuation for the player, who has a £50m release clause in his present contract.
Maybe because we have two left backs on contracts that don't expire for 3 years (Cresswell) or 4 years (Masuaku) and no one seems interested in offering to take them off our hands.
Currently we have only three centre backs, one of who could be retiring in 2022 and while we could play Rice as centre back that would leave us with either Noble (aging), Cullen (inexperienced), Lanzini or Snodgrass (both out of position) to partner Soucek.
With Reid unlikely to play again we have space for a fourth centre back.
I think overall this is a pretty serious situation.
Last season our points tally was in the thirties- which means we almost got relegated. The de facto reaction for a club who has thanked its lucky stars is to make changes. The problem is likely to be the players, the manager or both. In our case the manager is still here, so it leaves only options 1 and 3, both of which are under the control of the owners.
Changes in personnel you would have thought would happen automatically for a club to avoid a repeat.
However we have only had outgoings, to include a returning loanee who might have made a positive difference.
One could say “wait how it pans out at the end of the window”? Problem is, many of us don’t want to hear that record being played once again
I think it could be argued that our points tally was so low because of Pellegrini's impact (or lack thereof) on the side, and that changing to Moyes in December means we have had change. Remember it's his first pre-season, and we looked a lot better at the end of the season than the middle of it.
That said, yes it is dire, and yes this window has been an absolute nightmare
I can't see anything happening on the transfer front until the fog about a possible sale of the Club clears. The range of price has probably already been indicated to potential buyers though subject to negotiations. That price would have been based upon the state of financial affairs at a date. Acquiring new players would change the balance sheet and in view of that the current owners probably won't entertain major player purchases. I think many other Club have been through a similar phase and had to curtail player purchases. The downside is that the transfer window ends before the fog is lifted and the current/new owners are left with a weak squad which performs badly and once again we would be fire-fighting in the January sales.
Sadly I feel this serious lack of transfer activity will come back to haunt us...
We have stood still, that can't happen in football if you wanna progress, all the while our rivals are spending.. whether they prove to be good deals or not, but the lack of investement is shocking.
The 2 Dave's are so out of their depths, if they cannot or refuse to see it, that's even sadder..
No buys, a lack of depth in squad, little confidence among fans, a manager who is IMO average at best, and players that are out of form and unhappy or disgruntled.....
We may have 2 players there, but it is criminal that we will be going through this season with Masuaku and Cresswell at LB, neither rave been good enough for the last 3/4 years

Watkins and Cash already in, Grealish contracted for another 5 years. They've had a really good window and they'll finish comfortably above us, IMO.
Idrissa Gueye is the latest name to be linked with us, BTW. Won't happen, but would be a good signing for us.

They have no intention of doing what is needed to get him. And I very much doubt he wants to come either

However, I do agree that Tarkowski isn't coming. We all know it. Waste of time.

Pelle strung a few decent results at the start, Moyes did at the end
Pelle beat Chelsea, Moyes beat Chelsea
Pelle was humbled in a cup, so was Moyes
Still think that if one or two quality signings don’t arrive, Moyes will be well out of his depth and will do a Sunderland to us.
Also, does a potential sale of the club take the attention away from the lack of transfers?

Gonna be a long, ugly season IMO.
