The incomings they did make were ok, Mario is a very good buy and while personally i feel underwhelmed by the Preston guy he could be a smart piece of business
But to end the window over £10mil in profit with a squad as stretched as ours is unforgiveable
The squad is still short and we dont even have the kids to pack the bench (although i honestly feel loans long term will be good for them)
Mario looks the business, Hugill is a punt but not an overly expensive one so if he turns out to be a Sam Baldock/Nicky Maynard rather than a Dean Ashton it won't be too bad.
We offloaded Sakho who wanted away and Ayew who never really worked out
We kept Ginger
Now we get through to the end of the season, get Moyes to commit to a long term contract and give him complete freedom to build his own team
So out of the bottom 10 we had the 2nd highest profit behind Southampton...who got £75mil for 1 player
Swansea, Stoke, Huddersfield, Brighton, Palace, Everton and Leicester all spent (net) more than us
And while I know Mario was a loan then you have to look at the other clubs loan moves e.g. Slimani, Sturridge, Kennedy, Deulofeu, Mangala, Lennon, King etc
Having looked at the above, it seems to me that the only club in the relagation battle, which is about half the league now, that has not spent more than us, that has come in from sales, is Southampton.
Declan Rice can do a job there. So can Zaba, by the looks of it. But if we as a club want to compete with the big boys, which both chairmen have stated as their ambition for the club, then we can't afford to just 'make do', IMO.
I don't count Rice as just a "make do" I have been very impressed with him. So many people keep saying give the youngsters a chance and if he, who is the best of them, can't get into the team then I suppose buying expensive imports is the only way.
Tbf in the case of hugill can anyone right now truly say he is an upgrade on what we had?
Yesterday morning, I would bet that the large proportion on this site had never even heard of him. He has said all the right things and seems to have a real hunger, however he could just as easily end up being a bad apple like Sakho was. And aside from attitude Sakho was a very good West Ham player imo
For me the point is that Sakho was a good player for us. He hasn't been for at least the last year, so I think anyone who has the desire to play for us and try his best is an improvement.
horsham
In terms of players out/in, I think we have improved.
I think most people would agree that Ayew simply didn't turn out well. I don't remember too many calls for him to start. As I said, for me, Sakho may as well not have been here, so anyone is better than that.

Not going to give up on him yet, he got thrust into a team lacking creativity and seemed a bit over eager he scored goals for fun at U23 level
Needs first team football and hopefully playing with Spanish coaches will help him improve his technique a little
A signing ;wahoo

;ok
I think under Slav how we defended was far more of a worry.
I can't think of recent games where we have been overrun in MF.
I think Zab or Rice can do a perfectly good job in DM until the end of the season.
I didn't think we particularly needed a DM this window, whilst accepting it is always good to improve the quality of our squad.
If reports are accurate, we have targeted that position in the last two windows without signing someone.
Depending on your pov, that is either a gross failing on the part of the club, or one of those things.
For the rest, I think we have got two better players than the two we let go.
