if we don't respond quickly we could be having a day out at Brighton next season.

Brighton will probably get promoted. ....
  • I think last season is a bit of a misread, could easily point to around 15 - 20 games where we played for 45 minutes and were then non-existent for 45 minutes.
Like all teams we had moments of luck, but we also had moments of sheer brilliance. We have neither at the moment and we aren't even turning up for 45 minutes let alone the full 90.
I think Slav is right when he said, the stuff we were doing good is now below average, and the stuff we were average at last season is not there this season.
  • I would say end of November beginning of December is when any change should take place. After all a number of posters on here said this year is all about survival in the new stadium, I was one of the more optimistic I accept, and it is far too early to make the 'change the manager' call.

After all the best person to save us would be Tony Pullis.
  • To clarify my last post a bit. I don't want Bilic going anywhere, now or at Christmas.
  • We deliver fruit and veg to the training ground. The delivery driver is a West Ham fan and he was speaking to the cleaning lady. She told him that things weren't going well behind the scenes, people not happy and apparently Bilic was offered a big money offer to manage Iceland but the Daves flatly refused to let him speak to them. It might be a load of rubbish but, it is not a happy camp there at the moment.
  • To manage Iceland?!? Iceland?!?
It must be a local Iceland store because that's better than being manager of Iceland.
  • don't know they beat us sweepy ;biggrin

To be fair, my Monday night team, which includes Fat Paul and Limpy Craig, would have beaten England
  • Given that we've conceded more goals, 34, since March than any other team our ability to defend has been in question for some time.

Our ability to leak goals has increased, though.

We can offer a swap for whoever managed the Icelandic team... they looked half decent at the Euros...
  • No,England made them look good
  • 3 games to keep his job apparently
  • According to who?

    Don't tell me......
  • Well Yeold for one ;lol
  • TBH if we lose to Boro, Palace and Sunderland, it would be almost impossible to keep him on. 3 points from 9 games, would probably be a -20 odd GD and with all the better sides to follow.

We need to look to gradually crawl before we can walk. 4/5 points would be ok. Obviously we'd all like 7 at least. But we have plenty of games left. 7/8 points from 9 games. Gradually get the confidence back.

I'd go with negative line-ups. Lots of defenders and midfielders and try and aim for 0-0/1-0 games. Stop going 4-2-3-1 and switch to 4-5-1.

  • My problem is if he goes and that is becoming a strong possibility after every poor performance who comes in who's better ?

    ;hippo
  • he could be looking for a job soon as well Mrs G ;doh
  • Mmmmmmmmmm, do I smell cookies ;biggrin
  • I was one of them but would I have him back now ... not sure I can answer that question without my brief in the room ;hmm

    ;nonono

    has brookings gone commando ;puzzled
  • stay cool everyone. why on earth would Bilic have wanted the Iceland job for goodness sake? That's an obvious windup. I say the team will jell very soon now and we will start to get some solid points over the next 3 games - I'm thinking 2 wins and 6 points, and we will build on that and even pick up some points and get lucky in the difficult November to December period when we are playing the squillionaires. Stand Easy - better times are coming my hearties - the confidence will return as soon as we get into the stride
  • I don't think it will. I think this side is spiralling and see no reason to expect improvement.

The side on Sunday was full of experience. Nordtveit, Reid, Ogbonna, Arbeloa. How many career appearances in that back four? Yet they defended like they'd never played football before.

The midfield is our first choice midfield five. All hopelessly out of form and playing like individuals. These are not promising youngsters. These are seasoned pros that know what is expected of them.

I can't see how we can suddenly expect dramatic improvement.
  • The game against the Saints was on live TV here in Norway and Trevor Morley was one of the pundits. Trevor still has a wonderful passion for the club and is one of our greatest supporters.

Trevor told Norwegian TV that he was at the Boleyn Ground at the end of last season and had a long chat with Slaven Bilic. According to Trevor, Bilic believed the Hammers had over-achieved and they needed this season to consolidate a mid-table position. But he told Morley that he and Julian Dicks did not want to leave the Boleyn Ground after such an unexpectedly successful season, and added that he could not say this publicly because it would have sounded stupid with all the enthusiasm surrouding the move.
He believed that the pressure on the players and manager to repeat last season's achievement in a new ground with a totally different atmosphere would be very difficult to achieve. Trevor said that Slaven seemed genuinely concerned about the short term move to the London Stadium but believed the long term prospects were good. I see Trevor Morley every week on Norwegian TV and he always speaks wisely about the Premier League and with great passion about West Ham. I believe what he said about Slaven is very credible. It may give a little glimpse of Slaven's mindset at the moment as his worst nightmare seems to be a distinct possibility.

I so much want Slaven to succeed and really hope we can get some good results in the next few games.

not true but if you think you can prove where I have wanted him out go ahead ?
  • I disagree with the hire/fire mentality within football, especially for a club like WHUFC which had such a long and proud record of supporting our managers. All clubs, Players and managers can go through difficult periods and there many many examples to support this; take Crystal Palace last season or even Derby County this season, which is probably more akin to our situation; they've got an excellent squad and, although I dont like him, an excellent championship manager in nigel pearson, but they've gone through a v.difficult period as well, however if they keep the faith and support the manager then they will pull through it and it would come as no surprise to see them close to promotion at the end of the season because theres still lots of time and they are good enough to put a strong sequence of results together.

The question is about backing your man (because everyone can do that when things are going well!) and not stripping the players of responsibility, too often the manager is blamed for things going wrong and the players lauded when things are going well; it only reinforces advocating players not applying themselves in the right way, which should be the main concern but should also give us the most hope, that with some small adjustments on and off the pitch we can kick start our season. If the owners were to come out in public and to the players in private and gave their full support for Bilic, etc, etc then it would do a lot to help calm things down and get us united, which should be the main thing, especially after such a dysfunctional start to the season off the pitch.

Of course its difficult at the minute because it has been a really disenchanting run of results and performances but its still so early on in the season and we have lots of time to recover and still have a very good season. If we had...say, drawn three on the bounce, would people be happier?......of course...... but ultimately we would still only be three points (1 result) better off than where we are now. I believe Slaven is perfect for WHU in the short, medium and long term; its fundamental we all get behind him now because its a key moment for the club, do we keep faith? focus on the long term? on the bigger picture?; this squad has been in the works for multiple seasons and we've got a great foundation to build something special, changing manager would only set us back multiple seasons. Keep faith and things will recover.

  • TWC - totally agree

I like Bilic and want him to stay. I think he is a good fit for our club. Thinks are not right at the moment, but we must stick with him until at least Christmas.

I was crying out for a manager that would try and play exciting football, and Bilic has done that. One good performance and win against Boro and confidence will return.
  • TWC ;clap
Totally agree, UNITY is what we need now.
    coyi coyi
  • If Bilic goes - and its a big if given the Davids obvious dislike of changing managers mid-season - then they might rehire a manager they've worked with before.

Not only is Sam available but so is Steve Bruce and Alex McLeish.

Has it turned cold or is it just me?
