I think the devious Daily Mail have edited the whatevers out of Slav's quotes ;hmm
  • Interview on the OS with Slav:

Includes a great clip of Zaza in training.
  • I wonder if Slav is going to keep talking about fixing out defence - or actually do it. If he knows how, that is. At the moment it is painful to watch...

    Hello Allardyce residence.
Oh hi Sam, it's Slaven, could you do me a favour mate .............

    ;biggrin
  • So Sam's defence was so good?

The goals for and against don't stack up to support that. Our defence concedes much the same as before but we score an awful lot more. We also conceded 48 in the Championship.

    F - A
    SA 12/13 45-53
    SA 13/14 40-51
    SA 14/15 44-47

    SB 15/16 65-51

The Champo figure isn't really useful for comparison purposes unless you go 'goals per game' because those 48 conceded were over 46 games, not 38 ;ok

  • Can everyone stop this panic mode, deep down do you really want Bilic out, based on a dodgy start, bedding in to a new stadium, injuries to new players and key players.I think a lot of this in down to the aggro at the new stadium,we`re all feeling frustrated with it and it`s starting to boil over towards the team and manager.

True, but also we were playing much worse teams, both in real and relative terms (we did, after all, finish third that season). Also, the fact that the Championship season is noted separately suggests it's there as a sidenote rather than for direct comparison ;ok

A further reason why it isn't useful for comparison purposes then. Well spotted ;ok
  • It goes to show just how fast football can move as to even be wondering how long Slav has left would have been unimaginable a month ago.

My own view is that it is quite possible that Slav is an impact manager, the type that comes in and motivates but doesn't have long term ability to keep momentum and maintain the players commitment. There are a number of managers who could fall into this category. I don't actually feel Slav is one however.

I would say there are certainly mitigating factors in our poor start this season which fall well before Slav being the culprit, firstly injuries, secondly a poor transfer window, which I would imagine is not really down to him and thirdly the players are not giving the performances they can for 90 minutes. I feel were these other things not weighing on the situation we would be occupying a place that we would be quite happy with.

In short Slav is not to blame but he will need prove himself now as the challenge he faces is a different kind to any faced in his first season.

It's been terrible Slav..... now over to you.
  • 45 minutes performances are nothing new we did this all of last season. Only about 3 or 4 games in total last season that we had a complete 90 min performance.

We over achieved last season. And a lot of our draws and wins could have been losses or draws. It's showing this year though.
  • And a lot of our losses could of been wins ie Leicester
  • It's bad defending and individual mistakes. We still have goals in us and some ability to fight back. That's new, we haven't had that before. There are things to fix but I'm not worried.
  • We could also be in 2nd season syndrome.

Bilic tactics has been picked apart in numerous mng offices across the country.
  • Don't think ts the first time the team's got stuck and he's needed to change it. He's still a new manager and will have these challenges. I think he did ok ok turning things around eventually last season. He seems a bit slow to react sometimes but I don't see much reason to panic. The individual mistakes were so bad against West Brom I think it's hard to seriously take that much away from it.
  • I agree Outcast, in the heat of the moment I am guilty of throwing the baby out with the bathwater [not literally] although I've not called for Bilic's head.

I'm don't really know what the manager can do about individual errors, Arthur's hand ball, Ginge forgetting he is a defender, that stupid clearance by Ogbona...

What does concern me though is that no one appears to take charge on the pitch. Bilic needs a #2 out there and I had thought that was Nobes, but now I'm not so sure.
  • I don't for one minute think Bilic will be sacked. I think it much more likely he will walk if things don't improve.
  • Suze, I think Reid might make a better captain, but SB is not going to do that while still playing Noble. He could solve that dilemma by benching Noble who seems to be half the player he was last season. It might be worth a try because somebody has to take command of the defence.
I've also raised the point on this thread, but what is Dicksy doing about this on the training ground?

  • So back around March 2014 (I think, could've been 2015) Noble had been playing insanely well and everyone (pundits, media) thought he was a shoe-in for England. He didn't get a call up and was then shockingly bad for the remainder of the season. Noble was class last season, again, people thought he should have gone to the Euros, he didn't, now he's rubbish.

He puts on a non-plussed, brave face in interviews, but I think the knockbacks at international level after a period of brilliance seems to knock his confidence dramatically. I think he'll be back to last seasons level when he gets his head straight, but I think he's suffering right now and needs time to correct it.

So, even I, part of the twist, eski and Luke founded Noble-fan club (please note, other Noble-centric fan clubs are available), feel he should be dropped.
  • Dropped is harsh

Some r&r is how I'd put it ;wink
  • A game or two on the bench always helps Noble.
  • I don't for one minute think Bilic will be sacked. I think it much more likely he will walk if things don't improve.

"beep, beep, beep" stand clear people, I think Luke is reversing

    ;wink

    ;hug
