  • Is an creative mid still on the agenda for us?

We apparantly bid for Jacob Ramsey whos now off to Newcastle and potentially Lorenzo Pellgrini, whos less a winger but is a #8 or #10

I personally would prefer a athletic #6 that can play as a #8 but midfield is a concern and a Pellegrini/Ramsey type player would be welcome

Sky Sports says Saints have rejected our £30m bid for Mateus Fernandes, they want closer to £50m

He scored in Saints 1-0 Carabao cup win over Northampton last night. Rather nice

Harvey Elliot could be off to RB Leipzig
  • It was good to see Coufal playing to his strengths and being appreciated by his new manager

I'd say we could do with both but an athletic midfielder would be more important in the first instance, to add some pace and strength in the middle

That was a typical Bowen goal.

    ???
  • I find it quite incredible we have been unable to shift Cornet, Rodríguez, Irving & Emerson in 3 months.

Add to that zero interest in our more ‘valuable’ assets - the likes of Paquetá, Álvarez, Aguerd, Souček, JWP. We were probably hoping for one ‘big’ sale of one of these.

Our whole summer business was going to be dictated by that & with two weeks to go we have no real chance of moving the majority of them on.

    Really?

Maybe Emerson but are you really shocked we can't move the other 3 given what we've seen from them?
  • Yeah, they are all decent squad players. Irving I was expecting to have Scottish/Championship interest. Cornet did fairly well at Girona. Emerson is a pretty decent LWB. Rodríguez is maybe the most underwhelming but maybe an Italian or Spanish side.
  • You’re assuming there’s been no interest but there may have been and we’ve said they’re not going anywhere.
We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes.
  • Forest likely to sign Fernandes according to the Telegraph.
  • Areola linked with a move to Paris FC.

    Villarreal in talks with Mavropanos.

Rodríguez could be off to the Middle East.

I’d be both surprised and disappointed if Mavropanos left. For the style of play, I think he suits us well. Whilst I really like Todibo, he’s not completely convinced yet. And leaving us with only three centre backs for a back three system seems risky, unless Alvarez is going to be a centre back option this year.
  • There is the possibility, if Álvarez remains, that he is used as a CB. I don’t, personally, think he has the legs or ability on the ball to be a proper CM. Lop realised this but just executed the decision to play him at CB badly by the way the rest of the team was set up.

To add to this, Paris FC are close to signing keeper Kevin Trapp from Frankfurt, so I doubt Areola will end up there.
  • Nottingham Forest splashing the cash on a couple of good young English midfielders plus a striker from France, I wonder where they are getting their funds from?
  • £83m in sales?

    Just a wild guess.

Forest have sold Elanga and five other players for around £100m plus they got a sizeable cash boost by finishing 7th

They've also had five players leave on free transfers so plenty of space on the wage bill for new arrivals

I find quite incredible that you think it's that easy to "shift" players

The Premier League is richer than any other league in Europe, apart from a handful of big clubs like PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc. clubs don't have anything like the funds we do

Celtic made a £2.2m offer for Irving which was rejected, apparently we want £3.5m but that's more than Celtic have spent on the three players they've brought in this summer

Genoa made an offer for Cornet which was rejected as "derisory"

Emerson was linked with Lazio and the figure of €10m was mentioned but they have signed 25yo LB Nuno Tavares who was on loan from Arsenal last season for €5m

Rodriguez has been linked with various clubs in Spain, Italy and Turkey but no actual offers

We had one big sale, Kudus
  • Álvarez is not in Potters plans according to FabRom & will be sold before the end of window. Lots of interested parties. Reason is his limitation on the ball.
  • Paqueta exploring options ahead of window closing, according to FabRom.
  • According to Sky yesterday he has committed himself to us for this season at least as gratitude for all the support the club gave him and his family.
  • FabRom isn't the most reliable imo.
  • Sam Whetstone (Twitter yesterday) reckons "a number of clubs are expressed interest" in Alvarez but the only rumour I can find is a loan move back to Ajax from a couple of Dutch newspapers although

According to an agent quoted by C&H the reason we've struggled to find any interest in Rodriguez is "he was given ridiculously high wages and is one of the club’s top earners...which makes him very hard to shift"

But Whetstone (Twitter again) reckons Rodriguez could be off to Saudi for £6.5m and Celtic will meet our £3.5m asking price

    I'm not holding my breath...
  • Rodriguez was on a free so that tends to inflate wages.
  • Fenerbache in talks for Álvarez - perfect Jose player.

    Hopefully it’s not a loan & we get £20m.

IF correct he has lost £15 million in value in two years? That's the West Ham Way :p
  • According to C&H's source we're paying Rodriguez double what he was getting at Real Betis. Several sources have him on £75k pw which is half what we pay top earners Bowen and Paqueta

    Rumours we've offered £45m for Chelsea's 21yo Brazilian CM/DM Andrey Santos

Signed from Vasco da Gama in January 2023 he has been on loan ever since, most recently he spent a season and a half at Strasbourg where he formed a central midfield partnership with Habib Diarra (who we met on Saturday). Made OPTA's team of the season 2024/25

Finally made his Chelsea debut at the Club World Cup

    Ideally…

    Rodriguez 🔜
    Alvarez 🔜
    Irving 🔜
    Cornet 🔜
    Emerson 🔜

The likes of Scarles, Orford, Earthy, Marshall could probably all do with loans to the Champ if opportunities arise.

Ward-Prowse & Souček good pros & servants to have in squad but will be rotated in & out of midfield.

Then we need a proper CM signing. To be honest, I’d rather just one very good player than two average or ok players.
  • @Lukerz, Nine out & how many in?

Should be keeping Alvarez but GP knows best or does he?

Interesting two weeks to come transfer wise looking forward to who we sign.
  • Alvarez's stock seems to have risen as our midfield stock has seemed to have dropped.
