Summer Transfer Speculation (its just two months away)

Did anyone else know that the transfer window will open 1st June, close on 10th June then reopen on 16th June and finally close 1st September as usual.

I thought it was an April Fools' joke but apparently the Premier League agreed it on Thursday and its something to do with the World Club Championship which is being played in the USA this summer

Anyway, transfer news.

Ex reckons we're after Burnley's England U21 DC/DR/DM CJ Egan-Riley who will be available on a free in the summer

CJ???

Yeah, it's because there's a limit to the number of days in a year that can be in a transfer window, and if the summer transfer window went right through from 1st June to 1st September, we'd exceed the maximum (as laid down by FIFA I think). It's opening on 1st June mainly for the benefit of the clubs at the Club World Cup (ie Chelsea and Man City), but obviously has to apply to all clubs.

  • No I wasn’t aware of that ,but boy it makes it even more exciting!
  • This means we can have a 'who won the first half of the transfer window' competition followed by a 'who won the second half of the transfer window' competition. Of course West Ham will win both but by the end of October we will all say what a rubbish window we had. 🤷‍♂️
  • On the bright side, we’ll get to listen to those Sky ‘experts’ twice. 🤪⚒

It will be a big window for us and I hope we have some money to spend still. I feel its our poor return for our money in the summer which has caused us to have the season we have. It is of course not all down to poor buying as injuries have also played their part.

We knew the two most essential needs were a centre back pairing and a striker and sadly we have been left for most of the season without a striker due to Fulkrugs injury and Antonio's car accident, then we have ended up needing play five in defence to provide enough solidity as Mavro can't be trusted, Tobido has been injured and mostly average when playing. Kilman looks ok but not a domineering presence in the style of Zouma or Ogbonna.

I think Aguard should return as I would have been much happier with him in place of any line up which featured Mavro this season. I presume Fulkrug will remain and hopefully stay fit but we will still need another striker brought in.
  • We've been linked with four Saints players but C&H think only two of them are plausible

Numerous reports we've offered a contract to Kyle Walker-Peters who will be out of contract in the summer. Ex says "very likely"

We've also been linked with 23yo CB Taylor Harwood-Bellis along with Palace who will be looking to replace Marc Guehi, allegedly off to Liverpool.

Engaged to Roy Keane's daughter. Brave lad.

C&H don't think we'll go for "Jonah" Ramsdale

Saints want £100m+ for Tyler Dibling who has been linked with Villa, Newcastle, Spurs, Man Utd, Man City, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig
  • I have just had a look at contracts and loans. This summer could be one of the biggest changes to the squad we have seen in years.

    End of contract:

    Coufal
    Ings
    Antonio
    Fabianski
    Cresswell
Zouma (on loan at the moment)

    Loan players:
    Soler (option to buy)
    Ferguson
    Todibo (obligation to buy)

Others I think we may sell:
    Cornet
    Emerson
    Kudus
    Rodrigues
    Paqueta????

That could be 14 first team players/potential first team players gone

Potter has some thinking and serious squad building to do. Could be an exciting time.

  • If you're including players that are currently out on loan, then surely there's a possibility that Aguerd goes as well.
  • I would consider 9 of those not to be first team players, going on appearances this season.
  • So do you mean that they could stay, as squad players? ( That you think they don't necessarily need to be moved on.)
  • No. I think they should be moved on but to call them first team players at this time is, imo, not so.
  • If you're including players that are currently out on loan, then surely there's a possibility that Aguerd goes as well.

    Missed Aguerd.

    Hopefully he stays!
  • Aguerd is currently out with a calf injury he picked up in the Copa Del Rey semi vs Real Madrid on 1 April

C&H's insider says "Our new manager rates him" as does Amorim according to reports
  • Last season the suggestion was that he wasn't enjoying being in England or playing in the PL which is why a move or loan away always looked likely last summer. The fact that he's had a decent season in Spain may well have reinforced that feeling so, regardless of how much Potter likes him, Aguerd may still want to push for a move.

If we're likely to be playing 3 at the back going forward I'd like to see him stay; I like the idea of Todibo, Kilman and Aguerd as a back 3, but if we're going to look to play a back 4 then I'm not so fussed. Either way, it could be that the player himself doesn't want to be here and, after a decent season, now may be the best time to get a decent price for him, although in all likelihood it will be a good bit less than we paid for him as few clubs outside of the PL have deep pockets.
  • "C&H understands that Edson Álvarez has already been informed he is free to find a new club"

  • He looked an absolute bargain during a 3-4 month period but pretty ordinary outside of that period since.
