Correct Mrs G ;ok still a good effort to beat a league one team. No Burke, Oxford, Page, Hendrie, Quina, Samuelsen, Martinez, Fletcher... A lot of of the under 18s were in the squad ;clap
Surely the idea of the "reserve" sides is to identify talent and potential. Martinez can do nothing more than bang in goals, which he has been doing virtually every time he plays. With Carroll and Fletcher as our only fit recognised strikers, I think it would be madness not to include Martinez in a couple of the matchday squads over the next few weeks. Carroll, as much as I love him, will break down, and Sakho as soon as fit will be off to Africa. That may leave us with Fletcher as the only striker with any sort of premier league experience. We are not guaranteed picking anyone up in January. As Luke says above, Carroll and Ayew (don`t think he`s a striker) as first choice with Fletcher and Martinez on the bench. At some time we have to trust our best youngsters, I would rather do that than get in another Benny Mac or Mido.
We need to play 2 up front as we aren't making the most of Carroll winning his aerial duels
So yes I'd put either Ayew or Fletcher next to him and Martinez on the bench
Going through Slaven's record all the way back to his days with Croatia he's only ever started with two up front on a handful of occasions, he might use it for the occasional game against weaker opposition but I don't see him adopting it as a regular starting formation.
Yes, Carroll or whoever is playing up front needs support but that will have to come from one of the two attacking midfielders, recently that's been Lanzini and Payet.

Madcap ;ok Whilst I agree that Martinez deserves a place on the bench and a run out in the right circumstances, it has to be said that we've been here before with Sears, Hall and Lee in recent years.
That said, I'd love if Martinez could become for us what Kane has for Spurs ;pray
OCS - Harry Kane went on loan to Leyton Orient (Div 1) when he was 17 (2010/11), Millwall (Champ) when he was 18 (2011/12) then Norwich (Prem) and Leicester (Champ) when he was 19 (2012/13) . At that point he'd amounted 72 appearances with 17 goals.
Although I don’t think a player has to go out on loan before he can be brought into the first team. I watched Crawley Town play last weekend. Crawley’s striker scored a header from a set piece after about the 3rd minute but after that got zero service and the game pretty much consisted of hoofing the ball and two footed challenges. Not saying players shouldn’t go out on loan but it needs to be to the right team.
It would be nice to have the luxury of nurturing Martinez and watching him progress through the lower leagues in the form of loans etc, but at the minute we don`t have that luxury, we are a crocked Andy Carroll away from having Fletcher as our only recognised experienced striker. True Ayew can play there and Antonio would give it his best, but we are severely lacking in the specialised striker role, and NO I don`t want Zaza anywhere near the team. We are totally devoid of confidence at the moment, I`m sure Martinez is buzzing with confidence, being picked to be on the bench would give him a further boost. I know he hasn`t played anywhere near the level of the premier league, but confidence can do wonders in regards performance. Got to be worth putting him on the bench against Swansea. ;scarf
What's going on with Cullen's loan? It was reported as a 5mth loan when he left, which would mean he comes back this month. I can't find anything about it being extended.

I'm sure they meant to say:
'West Ham are resigned to losing young starlet after Man United showed interest.'
Got to be given a go in the first team surely
(Edit: they've put the goals up on the clubs official facebook page, some great football there ;clap )
But I want Ayew and Carroll in the XI, so room for both Fletcher and Martinez on the bench until we bring someone in or Sakho is back.

He didn't go straight from the kids
I suppose now the transfer window is open, he can be re-loaned, or loaned elsewhere...
Looks like he'll stay there http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/14994265.McCall__It__39_s_looking_good_on_keeping_Cullen_at_Valley_Parade/
Hopefully he'll be MOTM every week from now til the end of the season, and come back into our squad for next season.
