Bilic hasn't helped in all this by constantly saying that he is our best player thereby emphasising that the rest of the team are not as good as him. Quick to sign a new contract last year though. Having said that I don't think he's as good as he thinks he is or people keep saying he is otherwise why has it taken him so long to come to the fore.
you cannot keep a player who said I don't wont to be here anymore , for me that has been clear most of the season , he has had his head turned by the agent and someone wants him so agree get rid now I don't want him at our club anymore whats the point cash in and use that money now or in the summer to buy players who do want to play in the claret and blue ..

tbh I don't think that makes any difference. The players see him in training, they know what he can do and in interviews they also say he is a brilliant player. It's not like if Slav said nothing, we and the players would all be thinking he was a dog's dinner.
For me, the mistake was not to couple those remarks about Dimi with 'but it's a team game and he needs the other players to play well also if he is to achieve what he is capable of.'
Time to test out some of these "you're a WHU player, tough luck, you have a contract, you will not be sold" theories that have been on this board the last few days. ;hmm
I always thought that once he went to the Euros his head would be turned. Of all the players in the French team he is playing for the worst club side so is obviously envious. Had we bought well and played well this season he may well have thought it is a project coming to fruition.
Totally agree Thorn. Now im off for a lie down ;puzzled
Once again the club( or maybe just the manager) has handled the situation badly.Something hasn't been right all season & this appears to be that it could be the root of it all. Wouldn't it have been better to have just shut up about it & let him go? Surely we have put ourselves in a worse bargaining position now that other clubs no he's unhappy. Cash in on him now for as much as we can get, preferably not to another PL club & use the money to buy a striker and/or a right back.

You can't keep it secret, no way. News would get out - Payet would give an interview, or his agent would speak out.
Better to get out in front of the story.
By saying we're not selling him, we strengthen our hand as much as we can, and reduce some of the swirl of rumours.
But this is not a unique problem - it happens at practically every club at least once a season. It's the nature of things.
This Something hasn't been right all season & this appears to be that it could be the root of it all I think is a bit of a leap of the imagination.
If we wait till the summer his value will drop significantly. This won't be lost on the daves who are wrestling with whether to up their £3 bid for Snodgrass to £3.50
I said before and still believe that if we had bought quality instead of quantity we wouldn't be in this mess.
If we had qualified for Europe and done a little better he'd be happy.
I don't blame the guy. He was sold a vision. We all were. We blew the vision and now other clubs are coming along with beautiful new stadia. He's not just about the money, he wants to win things.
It's a real shame. I can't see how we can keep him. The fans will now turn on him.
The 'you have a contract' theory, as you put it, is what the club have said. We remain in a strong position, because he has a long contract. If he is refusing to train we don't pay his wages, so it's not costing us anything.
Unless someone pays what the board want for him then we shouldn't sell.
I'd be interesting in what their valuation is, actually. In the summer it was, what, £80m? But that was on the back of being one of the best players in the league on form. Anything above £35m is probably going to be enough, anything less and I'd be disappointed in the club for caving.
I was over the moon when he wasn't sold in the summer... however, he took an age to come back into the team, and when he did I got the feeling his heart wasn't in it, not giving 100%. Makes sense looking back now and it ticks me off to no end.
No point keeping a player who doesn't want to play and not give it all when he does take the field. Sell him and move on.
Players who did well last season looked half the player this time round . players looked unfit players looked like they didn't understand instructions .
I think this could have put a poison in the dressing room , after all your star player turns round and doesn't want to play can you imagine Noble's reaction Bilic already said the training wasn't good enough it explains many things imo.
Please get rid the player has all the cards these days look at Berihino we don't want that sort of situation do we , after all we are west ham not man city we cannot afford to leave our top earner sat in the stands can we.
Ok, if he's refusing to train or play then surely he's broken his contract. Stop paying him, put him in the reserves and don't select him to play. Let him rot in the wilderness until a decent offer comes in and get shot of him. As you can probably Guess this has caught me on a bad day. ;angry

can this season get any worse than this ;doh

If that's true, cheers Dimi ;angry
Over to you Sully.
We've gone backwards. When that happens, best players want out.
Shame, but the fact he's been pretty anonymous this season will soften the blow.
Now, he needs to be part of the solution, rather than bailing on us.
That's what the best players do.

Could've easily kept it behind closed doors and made up some injury/illness excuse.

So make it look like he wants to go (bit like Parker) and then you can go with the old "he forced the move, what could we do" number.
Get as much as possible (£30m) and move forward.

Luke, how are the owners making it look like he wants to go????
