Aston Villa Vs West Ham Utd - Sunday 26th - Kick off 16.30

I haven't started a thread this season so far so I thought I would take this one. I am sure Aslef will provide his usual more detailed pre-match info regard the opposition etc at some point but this just gets the ball rolling.

It would be hard to be too enthusiastic due to our current injury crisis but on the positive side we were ahead for a good part of the recent cup match and did at least give them a match until we trailed off when going behind. I am hoping Summerville will be able to play a part in this as we are missing some pace with both he and Bowen missing.

I am looking to this second half of the season to realistically just be a good prep for next season, I don't feel we will be relegated nor get anywhere near the Euro places but if we can get the side playing how Potter wants them to and working well together it won't be a waste of time. I am looking to just see us develop a style of play and some improved personal performances in each match so we can hopefully hit the ground running in August and leave this season behind.

  • Areola
    Wan-Bissaka - Kilman - Emerson
    Summerville - Álvarez - Souček - Soler - Scarles
    Kudus - Paquetá
  • Sadly Villa are possibly in a better position that when we played them two weeks ago and they had gone 5 games without loss before losing to Monaco in the Champions League last night

For starters Jhon Duran is available and they’ve signed Dutch RW Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for £21m although he was left on the bench against Arsenal

John McGinn and Pau Torres are still injured while Diego Carlos is going for a medical with Fenebahce and Jaden Philogene has gone on loan to Ipswich

Ross Barkley is out with a calf injury he picked up against us while Amadou Onana missed the Monaco game with a hamstring but could recover for Sunday

Getting to half time without conceding would be good…
  • Hope is they have Celtic on there minds

    Bowen back in training…

Wonder if he’ll make the squad
  • Plus Summerville in training too from the video today
  • With news of Summerville & Bowen, possibly…

    Fabiański
    Wan-Bissaka - Kilman - Cresswell
    Summerville - Álvarez - Souček - Scarles
    Kudus - Paquetá
    Bowen

Areola, Coufal, Emerson, Rodríguez, Irving, Orford, Soler, Guilherme, Ings
  • Training video from, I guess, today:

Bowen and Summerville both involved on the grass, although I'm not sure Bowen was included in the kick about right at the end.
  • Presser atm.

Potter playing down the chances of Bowen and even Summerville being available for Sunday. Todibo definitely out.
  • Mind games
  • Emery presser

Onana out but McGinn back training with the first team

    Starting XI against Monaco

    Martinez
    Cash Konsa Mings Digne
    Kamara Tielemans
    Bailey Rogers Buendia
    Watkins

Emery full of praise of Buendia after Monaco game so that could be the starting XI on Sunday
  • So looks like only Todibo, Antonio & Füllkrug are now inured. Everybody else available other than Mavropanos who is banned.

Looks like no Summerville as number 7 shirt not in dressing room photo.
  • Areola, Coufal, Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Cresswell, Emerson, Álvarez, Souček ©, Soler, Kudus, Paquetá
Subs: Fabiański (GK), Foderingham (GK), Scarles, Casey, Orford, Rodríguez, Irving, Luis Guilherme, Ings

Areola starts, 2 keepers on the bench.
  • Best we can put out with our available players
  • That bench looks so weak, 2 keepers, 4 under 20 year olds, Irving (who has barely any minutes), Rodriguez and Ings.
  • Looks like

    Areola
    Wan-Bissaka - Kilman - Cresswell
    Coufal - Álvarez - Souček - Emerson
    Paquetá - Soler
    Kudus
  • Would just like a game where Areola does not let in soft goals
  • Coufal to score the winner

Kinda like the last 4 goals we've conceded, which were all soft goals let in by Fabianski?

I think it’s probably Coufal and AWB swapped
  • This is going to be a challenge.

I never said they weren’t but Areola lets in a lot more soft goals than fab, despite being significantly younger
  • Does anyone still have the 'looking forward to the match' feeling any more?
  • Come on you Irons
  • Matches are to be endured, not enjoyed
  • Great tackle from Kilman
  • Cresswell really needs to get better at positioning and tracking his player as he ages. Good ball from Bailey but he’s completely lost track of Rodgers
  • Oh dear. That’s some god awful defending from Coufal
  • Who is Soucek passing Ramsay off onto there?
