As I said before, the players have a lot to answer for. They have been woeful under Moyes & Lop, now have collapsed in 5 minutes under another manager.
Positive first half. Signs of encouragement. Shocking call for the corner that turned the game, but the players collapsed again after that goal.
That was frustrating- overall I thought we made a decent fist of it, they came back at us and their first goal was a result of an appalling decision that was nowhere close to being a corner.
Villa are a decent side but at the end of the day, they were poor first half and we were pretty poor in the second, the deciding factor was that they were better in the second than we were in the first.
I am glad that we gave it a go at the end and finished on the front foot but it turned out being a tough night, especially given the injuries we incurred
Not sure how we were stitched up. It was never a corner but we should still have defended it better. They were much better than us second half and we just can’t defend.

He gave the corner they scored from when it was clearly a goal kick. Stitched up, plain and simple.
Ref makes an error, we concede from the resulting corner and heads drop and we cave in. We played OK for an hour but with Fullkrug and Summerville off we lost forward. Ings had chances but it wasn't his day. Disappointed with the result.
Potter will have to look at the defence and midfield. Scarles had a good game. Will we have any forward to field in the next game?
Well jay, are you denying we were stitched up by the ref tonight?
No denying it was a mistake, should never have been given… But, a bit more concerned with 2 further injuries. PL most important this season…. Hopefully Potter would have learned a bit tonight about certain individuals….
thorn, Whilst I agree we can’t, it seems defend, why then did we try to do that & not keep attacking in the second half? Too many have been moysed and have a defensive mindset.
I think we were forced to defend more in the second half because Villa woke up but our defenders seem bang average at best. Kilman joined as a marquee signing but so often he is beaten to the ball at crucial moments by an alert forward. He was stood on his heels for their second goal. Ignore the corner controversy for their first and after the corner which we mostly cleared the shot from the edge of the box was saved by Fab but two players then got in his way, one of which was Soucek who fell to the ground. We are obviously going to need to bring in a striker this window, this week even as we’ve now lost 4 forwards, but defenders must be a number one priority.
I’ve just seen the equaliser and it’s outrageously bad refereeing. You can say we should have defended it better, but it’s just an unfortunate touch from Soucek that stops Fabianski being able to gather it.

Injuries, too. Potter has his work cut out.

Can’t blame Lop for that one.

Emerson, Areola, Todibo, Summerville, Bowen, Füllkrug, Antonio all injured. Worrying.
