It simply due to the fact that the season we bought him we were fighting relegation and he didn't want come up and go straight back down, so it would have been a safety net for him.
Sead Kolasinac has joined Marseille on a free after leaving Arsenal on a mutual
Sweden's No. 1 Robin Olsen (joined Roma 2018) spent most of last season on loan at Everton and spent the first half of this season on loan at Sheffield United, That loan ended on Monday and he started a new loan at Villa yesterday,
Guess he prefers to be anywhere in England to Rome
A little risky for him as his stock is still high due to his loan time with us. In Boxing they say you are only as good as your last fight, were Lingard to not shine and Newcastle get relegated he could find his options and negotiating power reduced. We would be a much safer bet as would seeing out his contract until summer.
I read a report ( and now can't find it ) Newcastle offered £3m to take him on loan and Lingard is interested .May I add that I take any rumour with a shovel of salt.
Why would Man Utd loan him out when his contract is up in the summer?
To make a contribution to his wages?
Hard to see Man Utd, with the money they have, thinking there's much value in that. They'd save a tiny amount rather than have him in the squad in case of an injury crisis.

Edit: Surely they'd just sell him instead.
Unlikely to sell to us because we're a top four rival (massive).
Newcastle unlikely to want to buy as they'll have bigger names in mind in the summer (if they stay up), and Lingard unlikely to want to join permanently as a) Newcastle could be in the Championship and b) he has his pick of clubs in the summer.
Realistically Man U will only sell him to a PL team that Lingard won't be interested in, i.e. one that isn't competing for Europe, or to someone abroad. But again, if Lingard doesn't want to commit to a permanent deal now then it's out if their hands.
I really don't think Man U wouldn't sell to us because we are a competitor for fourth. First of all they are above all that and second we won't be getting fourth place.

Over half way through the season and we're fourth. I agree we probably won't finish there, but it's hard to argue that we're not absolutely competing for it.

The loan option only comes into play if he refuses to be sold as wanting make a decision in the summer, possibly to see if we are in Europe, if Newcastle stay up or he can take the humiliation of playing for Spurs, all big questions.
So United either accept he wont be sold and will leave in the summer or make 3-5m and save wages by loaning him. They get some money, he gets to play football and try before he buys in the summer and the loaning club get a great player for the rest of the season.
I suspect they may not want to loan him to us as competition and would look awful if his goals kept them out of Europe with us occupying the place.

I get what you're saying but that amount of money (the amount saved in wages) is absolutely nothing to Man Utd. I think they'd keep him as a back-up and let him go in the summer.

The fact they kept him to play a couple of minutes for the first half the season says to me they are very happy to keep him and take the financial hit.
I would really like us to get the striker and defender we desperately néed soon. It would make me happy. Come on Moyes and Board, I am waiting patiently.
Ralf Rangnick has stated that United’s squad is too big and the interim manager said he would not try to stop any player who wants to leave from departing.
One of our many oversees U23 punts. Toni Martinez, Xande Silva, Frederick Alves, to name but a few. None have ever threatened the first team and we haven't made our money back on them.

I thought 4th place was gone OCS?
It's not gone, and I don't remember ever saying it was.
What I've actually said all along is that without the necessary level of investment this month I don't think we'll hold onto fourth. And I stand by that. Even with a new left back, centre back and striker we probably won't, but we'd have a better chance to, IMO.

Ragnarok is happy to let Lingard go.
Moyes still wants Lingard.
Lingard would prefer a move to London.
We're going to sign Dele Alli, aren't we.
I genuinely only vaguely remember who this guy is
