“They’ve said to me 'Go and get what you need if you can, David' but, like anything else, players are expensive in this window at the moment."

I don't understand his remark that players are expensive in this window at the moment. What's a few million here or there to the shareholders if there's a player he wants. Does he think the shareholders became rich by being as cautious as he is?

Moyesie, you've been given the green light, just do it.

Spend extra 2m now, its not available to spend later. If you want vfm, now might not be the time to buy.
Plus, presumably he means fees + wages ... Players can drive a harder bargain in January.

It's all money to be spent, plus being mindful of ffp. Boost the wage bill now, means keeping the wage bill down in the summer.

Personally, I'm quite pleased that there seems less focus on' one for the future:
But if we wait for the summer to strengthen, we risk losing the chance of finishing top six this season. Which in itself increases the risk of losing our best players. Who will then have to be replaced in the summer, adding to the already extant requirements.

Plus Moyes' targets may not want to join a team that aren't in Europe, which means he may wait for the next window to find someone else. Or maybe the one after that...

I think there needs to be investment this month to improve our standing in the summer.
When you look at the work we already need to do in the summer, it's hard to imagine pushing even more deals back.

Fredericks is out of contract in the summer, but arguably doesn't need to be replaced. Coufal and Johnson have that position covered, with Ashby in reserve. But Areola, Kral, Noble and Yarmolenko are all leaving in the summer as it stands, and as all are regulars in the matchday squad, will need replacing. That's four players needed before the window's even opened. If we put off the current first team requirements, namely a striker, centre back and left back, to the summer, then we'll need to bring in seven first team players. And that's not to mention the possibility of having to replace Rice.

You could argue that we have some kids that could fill the bench, but Moyes has been reluctant to use Oko-Flex, Perkins, Alese etc. so I can't see that that will suddenly change in the summer.
  • The Sun, yes I know, are linking us with DCL but state it’s for £60 million. If we’ve got that amount for a striker then I would like to think there are a few better than him that we could get for less than that.
  • I think £40m is what Sevilla wanted for En-Nasyri, reportedly Moyes' No1 target of last summer, so even if we had £60m to spend, it wouldn't be on DCL.

I really rate DCL very highly, but he’s been injured so much this season

I'd like DCL but IMO I can't see us paying £60m for anyone ( a couple of abbreviations there!)
  • Quite looking forward to the prospect of several players leaving for free this summer, as they we will have to buy a replacement

Like Balbuena leaving on a free, made us target a proper CB like zouma

Glad that this is the last season we will be seeing Yarmolenko or Fredericks, neither are Prem standard and I'll be glad to not see them on the pitch after this year
  • I just saw the DCL 60M Sun thing and it genuinely made me laugh out loud!

Now, not laughing, I dont see why he'd come to us but, even though its a big price, English international poachers like him probably are that price in todays transfer market
  • I think it’s becoming more common for players and teams to let contracts run down so I think there will be a lot of frees available in the summer as club look to get high earners off their books. The club has also posted large losses in the last couple of years so I think getting the right players for the right value is important. We could go big on a striker but it did not exactly work out last time with haller . I don’t think even with a couple of signings we would get top 4 I am hoping we qualify for europa again and do Weill in this years competition. I will wait and see to end of window as normal as that’s when Moyes likes to do business
  • I don’t mind us prioritising summer business, but we are didn’t finish our business last summer, imo. We need to be using the January window as a chance to finish what we started last year.
  • Villa after Rodrigo Bentacur for £16mil from Juve

Think that is a deal we could and should be all over especially if the jury is Kral isn't going to work

Think it was reported we'd pay £12mil rising to £17mil for Kral, Bentacur is a international level player who may not quite be good enough for Juve but he'd be great at us

£16mil, 24, defensive mid/centre mid who can come in for one of Rice/Soucek to rest or to come on and make up a 3 to make us more secure

Also....his style of play is similar to how Rice plays, he's not quite as physical and explosive but Rice will go one day and it'll be better to get the replacement in before he goes so he can adjust to our style instead of just being thrown in

Not going to happen as its looking like we're going to sign no one, but this is the type if signing to send a bit of a statement and improve the squad (also let's us get rid of kral who Moyes clearly doesn't fancy or trust)
  • It's strange about Kral. Presumably Moyes doesn't fancy him ( sees his capabilities in training ) but I can't say I've seen enough of him to judge one way or the other. Shame for him.
  • Conte apparently thinks that Chelsea’s squad is not strong enough.
Exactly how many players have they got out on loan?

    Tottenham not Chelsea obvs.

  • He he, my last post makes little sense I know.
I blame a lovely roast lamb dinner and a few glasses of a very acceptable Fleurie.

To be fair I don’t think Spurs have got many more out on loan than us (6 or 7?). It’s Chelsea that have loads (20+?)" Makes a mockery of the loan system IMO!
  • I agree SH , see my post above.👍

And Spurs also have 2 in on loan.

Leg every time. This one was the size of a small dog.

Ex has supposedly put the DCL rumours to bed, and has said that Moyes still isn't sure on who he wants.

If it's true, I'm not really sure how we can still be in this position. There must be someone, surely, that we can afford that can improve our squad. There are something like 3,900 professional football clubs in the world; are we to believe that not one of them has an affordable striker that would offer more than Andriy Yarmolenko?

Roast lamb and Fleurie - really?
  • Fleurie - far too lightweight with roast lamb ;)

We do have the money. The new guy has plenty of money. He could literally buy Brentford FC and just give us Toney as a present (I'll take Rico Henry and Raya the GK whilst I am browsing).

Now I've said that, we should just buy Toney (it'll be over the odds but he IMO is only going to get better)
  • To be honest, from some of the comments I've seen about Sparta Prague under his chairmanship, I don't think he's actually going to be the big spender everyone thinks. The other guys were a mess but not sure why this guy's not faced the same scrutiny.
