If Kral goes, we need someone in this window to replace him (although, knowing us, I'd be surprised to see it happen), which would mean 2 CM as a minimum in the summer even if Rice doesn't go.

I was thinking about this yesterday, but I actually believe Moyes is more likely to go with Noble, Lanzini and Fornals as CM options rather than bring in someone to replace Kral if he goes.
Unfortunately that's how I see it (hence saying I'd be surprised to see replacing Kral this window happen), but yesterday's game kinda shows that we still need a SouDec alternative, and one that Moyes will actually play, now.
  • He's either being too fussy or he's not allowed any money.

Soucek's game is all about his physical presence; he's strong, has a great engine and is a threat in both boxes. You can't ask Lanzini to play that role and expect the same result.

Kral was such a logical signing. He's a natural DM, is a very physical player and has the energy to play box-to-box if needed. I just don't know what's going on with him. If Moyes is as picky as we're made to believe, then he must have been confident in Kral's ability, and yet he hasn't had a kick.
  • i reckon he either doesn't fancy him in which case the loan was pretty ineffective. Or the obligation to buy is tied to appearances.

Could it possibly be that Kral himself doesn't fancy the move and the club aren't playing him so that we don't trigger a buy? I mean, maybe he came her all optimistic etc and the weather/language/food/covid don't agree with him.
  • Maybe but I’m sure Soucek and Coufal had given him a full run down on what to expect here at the same time giving Moyes the lowdown on him which I’d imagine was very positive.
  • Could be Moyes is trying to ease him in like he did with other players it took awhile for Bowen and Benrahma to get a run of games and with Rice and Soucek ahead of him its probably even harder to get game time
  • On a more positive note I am much more enthused with what I have seen from Vlasik since Benni has been gone.
  • Moyes's treatment of Kral is very different to that of Bowen and Benrahma

Bowen joined us on deadline day, he was left out of them team two days later but came on as a substitute in the next two Premier League matches (he was cup tied) and started every game after that until the end of the season.

Benrahma joined us in October and was carrying a knock so missed the first two games. He made his first appearance off the bench on 31 October, was on the bench for the next four games and got his first start 12 December. After that he either started or came off the bench in every game except Brighton 27 December.

Kral joined in June, he got 90 minutes against Man U in the League Cup 22 September and wasn't seen again until the last 5 minutes of Genk 4 November. He got another 25 minutes against Rapid Vienna three weeks later, started against Dinamo Zagreb in December and made his Premier League debut in the 89th minute against Watford 27 December.

Not sure I'd agree with that TBH...while he seems a "decent" player...not sure he's any more than that, he has done OK and shown some decent touches here and there, BUT he has not changed 1 game in our favour, if anything he was partly at fault for Leed's 3rd....

I hope I'm proved wrong and he comes to be worth his spot in the squad but at this time, I'm not convinced at all, I would much rather see Jesse Lingard than Vlasic if we had that choice, all day long for me.....100%....

But as said,I do hope he comes right and proves his worth, otherwise I see another Haller sale at a loss coming our way.....

  • Andy Carroll scored for Reading on Saturday to bring his tally to 2 in 8 games
    Out-of-contract Sunday
    Spotted at Rush Green today

    Surely not?
  • No think that's been quashed as a bad rumour.
  • I love AC. He’s a better option than Yarmolenko…

Well he’s a center forward, that’s one bonus over the much criticised Yarmelenko!!!
  • Aaaaaand the entire time we had him before we were rubbish at set pieces and now we’re the best. Get a fiver on him scoring 10 headers from corners, I reckon

It would he awful as I'm pretty sure he'd be injured straight away.
  • Feels weird we aren't even linked to anyone

Honestly just bring Origi in and I'd be midly satisfied, someone who can get a goal even if its just with 15 minutes off the bench
  • Seriously, Origi has to be a no-brainer at this point. Unless there's no one else lined up, or he doesn't want to come, he should be brought in. He's got pretty decent attributes and has shown he can get goals with very few minutes.

  • I think Origi could happen but Liverpool are not likely to let him go yet until the end of the window. They are low on options due to AFCON.
  • Oh yeah good point. I hope that's just it (unless we're getting someone else).
  • Isn't he injured?
  • When has that ever stopped us?
  • Origi picked up a knee injury against AC Milan 7 December but Klopp reckons he's not far away from returning.

Bad news for Origi fans is that he's been linked with Burnley, Newcastle and Inter
  • Thats also bad news for Origi =)
  • So from the earlier postings regarding having an Antonio replacement (who doesnt have to be as good as him but better than our current replacement options of Bowen out of position or Yarmo...) I noted Palace have apparently quoted Burnley 12M for Benteke (s their Wood replacement)

Now I am not saying the I am a particular fan of Benteke. However, after minimal thoughts:

12M is cheap for a reserve striker with a lot of Prem experience
He's good in the air, holds the ball up well and is physically strong.
Goalscoring in recent times is better than the long lull he had prior to it.
I also am inclined to think, with our set piece delivery and crossing in mind, that he'd actually do alright when deputising or subbing on for Antonio.

At the end of the day with no links and apparent fussiness of bringing players in. Benkeke at 12M IMO would not be a bad piece of short term business
  • I don't reckon our board would stump up 12 million for Benteke.
  • But should they short term? Until we at last buy a striker to at least compete with Antonio
  • I don't think we'd ever go for him - he'd be the definition of the type of "any old striker" signing Moyes is avoiding - and also don't think we should. The few goals he's scored recently aren't enough to suggest he's back to being effective.
  • Ahh but when Jan passes and Antonio gets injured (theoretically) I know I'd rather have Benteke holding the ball up, Bowen on the wing and Yarmo not on the pitch (perhaps I am lacking patience as nobody else seems to have such a lack of striker options)

    Agree with this

Also likely there is a reason Palace haven't renewed his contract

Let's say hypothetically he is asking for a 3 (or 4) year contract then you'll have two 31 year old strikers who'd be on pretty good wages until they're into their mid 30s
