Man City (h) Caribou Cup 7:45pm Weds 27th October (not on TV)
Another chance for the fringe players to get a run out.
Personally I think the League Cup should be scrapped. Only England and Scotland have two cups that involve the top flight, every other country has just one (France abolished the Coupe de Ligue last year) and only England awards a Europa League place to the winner.
The League Cup only exists because clubs wanted to maximise midweek revenue after spending loads of money on floodlights. With the rise in European football there's enough midweek football to make the League Cup is redundant.
That's my tuppenny ha'penny worth and if this ends my streak then I will be less than happy.

But, I want us to win something, so we should go for this.
Areola; Johnson Dawson Diop (100th game, btw) Cresswell; Noble Rice; Bowen Vlasic Lanzini; Antonio
Zouma - Dawson - Diop
Fredericks - Fornals - Rice - Masuaku
Vlasic - Lanzini
Bowen
Randolph, Ogbonna, Johnson, Kral, Noble, Soucek, Benrahma, Yarmolenko, Antonio
We could rest the entire 11 but we don’t want to risk a battering.
Obviously I’ll care about it if we get to the final, though.
Areola
Johnson Dawson Diop Masuaku
Kral Noble

If Kral is not able to play then Rice if he feels able. I get the impression he can take his matches well and recovers quick, but would let him decide.
I noticed a lot of local friends who aren't massive football fans are way more into it now West Ham are doing well. It's not that they were supporting other teams, just they're more engaged now.
I grew up in Newham in '90s so most of us from immigrant backgrounds (and moreso our parents) associated football fans with violence and the paradox of West Ham being the local club is it was West Ham fans we feared. (By the way: I'm not saying West Ham fans were worst, just what we saw most.) So people chose other teams who were on TV more and were good to watch. But with most of that in the past and now West Ham playing well, I think people feel more open to going to games. Cheaper season tickets help a lot and the cheap Europa and cup games help as well.
I think this period will help build a local heritage where support will pass down families just like it did with the people who moved out to Essex and elsewhere. I've seen more support for West Ham locally over the past 15 years anyway but think it's quickening now - which I'm happy about.
(Sorry, long answer but why more people I grew up with don't support our local team is something I think about a lot )
Torres was substituted after 72 minutes when they were 4-1 up but the rest of the first team players stayed on for the full 90 minutes.
Admittedly they played on a Tuesday and didn't play again until Saturday, this time they'll have one day less before playing again. Hmmmm...
BND, When Blackburn Rovers won the league there was a dramatic increase in purchases of their shirts in our area, those supporters have now grown up and are regular visitors to Leicester, Derby & Nottingham Forest. It's was probably human nature to support the winning team but it's nice to see that others stay loyal to their team through thick & thin.
1) it’s a Wednesday game (not Thursday), so the players will actually feel the benefits of an extra day off compared to what we have been used to. We also kick off late on Sunday.
2) Moyes will know there is a risk, depending on how strong City go, of losing this game heavily. He has already said he wants to keep momentum going & that is how he has looked at the Europa League games. We could do without a 4-0 loss with a reserve side.
3) it’s a sell out. He will feel he owes the fans to put out a competitive side.
From the 4th round onwards teams will be able to make five substitutions from nine subs with three "opportunities during open play" to make substitutions not including half-time.
From the semi-finals onwards teams will get a fourth opportunity during extra time not including full time and half time in extra time

It can be viewed as part of the “strategy”, but IMO it’s an 11 man game. The benches are starting to look like they wouldn’t be out of place in AMERICAN football.
If we’re not careful we’ll end up with specialist positions e.g. someone coming on just to take a last minute penalty. 😜⚒
