  • But that's why they have VAR - to help the ref in making crucial decision.

Wish Gary L would point out to Shearer that VAR is for clear and obvious errors AND for missed incidents.
  • If Mbappe had been less honest, they could have had another penalty.
  • Clinical counter attack

    3-1 France
  • I think this may become a rout.
  • They can stop there if they like ;pray
  • Damn.....

Lucky to go 2-1up imo but since then they have looked frightening
  • That goal could cost Lloris the golden gloves ;nonono
  • And some call Lloris a world class keeper. ;lol
  • That is a ridiculous error

    Surely its over though
  • So Mbappe is only the second teenager to score in the final. How many have scored a goal and own goal?
  • Well done France.
  • Agree

They did what they had to do,soemone has always gotta lose
  • Vive la France coyi

Well iMO it rhymes with class

    £5 @ 40/1 for a 4-1 France win ;weep
  • That's gotta hurt. ;nonono
  • Happy for modric getting the player of the tournament, the guy oozes class

Plus it may be his last world cup (possibly)
  • Was he playing today?

Great player but not my MOTT. I thought Hazard did enough but if it needed to be a finalist then Varane was my MOTT.

Anyway, that's the best World Cup for a very long time imo. Thoroughly enjoyed it. ;clap ;clap ;clap
  • Good tournament, but looking forward to some proper footy in 3 weeks. ;wahoo
  • Well done and hard luck to Croatia.
  • Mrs G: Without VAR watching them, will it be back to Come Dancing at corners, and the Rolling & Tumbling show? I'm not optimistic that footballers change unless they have to. ;devil
  • kuching, I think the PL will come under more and more pressure to bring in VAR.

La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga are using it for the coming season, but PL have decided to continue with 'trialling' it.

The sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned.
  • But before they do, they should require every pundit/commentator to be VAR-accredited, which means they have passed a test on understanding of how the system works.

  • #Shearerstillrankles ;wink
  • I do think that VAR worked a lot better after the group stages ended, though the pen was odd in the final
  • The thing with VAR if the ref still makes the wrong decision after looking at it , its not a problem with VAR its a problem with the ref you will still have a chance for human error as no one is perfect
  • Once Football gets its head out its rear and does it how Rugby does it the better.

    - Mics on Refs that can be listened to by supporters at home.
    - Clear indication of a VAR Decision on giant screens and ref motioning VAR on the pitch.
    - Incidents of the supposed "infraction" to be shown on the big screen controlled by VAR Refs, no shying away to an off field camera.
    - Mics on VAR refs that can be listened to by supporters at home to hear what the refs in the VAR booth are saying to the ref and highlighting to the ref the points of contention.
    - Ref to give a clear indication of his decision with reasoning over the mic.

  • So how would I have understood the Argentinian ref talking to his VAR team? ;hmm
  • Im sure ITV and BBC have plenty of translators.
